This school is a gem. My son was placed in Mrs. Mary's class and Mrs. Sumita is the assistant guide. The administrative team was small but mighty. The administration and faculty were responsive and you get a tight knit feel from this school. I appreciated the small class size, transparency, and the warm and responsive team. The best part is your child gets to work at their own pace. It's like getting a private school education. I found the school to be more advanced in their curriculum than a traditional public school.

We love Rising Sun and the small school environment! We have a very involved community and love the teachers we have had here. Montessori gives children the skills to work at their own pace and level, I love that they aren’t sitting in a desk all day and that there are so many hands on learning tools everywhere in the classroom. My kids have thrived here and made excellent friends.

We lasted less than 1 year. The year we left 16 other families left. School leadership is poor. Not a good place for high achieving schools. Classes have lots of behavioral problems. The teacher we had could not control the classroom.

My Children attended the school. But after seeing the staff turn over and how the school is managed, it did not seem very Montessori. The teacher was great, but appeared to be hampered by the school's management (of one). My children were unhappy, they would come home upset about things that happen at school. Their social interactions were hampered by the punitive nature of the academic structure denying recess time until they get current on their projects. There seems like they are being a bully and punitive, will break a child's self-esteem. If your child has any special needs requiring an IEP process, you are better off going to another school. Leaving there was the best decision I could make for my children's well being, they are high performers at their new school and they love school and come home with smiles now.

Mixed. A good option for some families but not those who have kids with special needs.

No homework. Good for kids and families. Too many schools overwhelm kids with homework.

Too much power in the hands i
of one person with conflicting interests.

They are not able to provide the services so many children need due to their size. Staff keeps leaving. Not enough resources or knowledge

Love it!
It’s a small school with a small school feel. Everyone knows and supports everyone else.

No homework unless it is needed.
More family time.

They truly care about their students and are trained in the Montessori method.

That is the Montessori way.
This school teaches the WHOLE CHILD.
All the accedemics, advanced geometry plus, respect, integrity, compassion, caring for self and others.

School is new and growing. Admin is easy to talk too and they care about their students.

Posted: April 22, 2018

When schools teach REAL Montessori, students with learning differences are automatically supported. The school also has district support for these students.

The caring admin and staff takes bullying very seriously. All children are taught in ways of dealing with bullying. Support is given to children that bully and victims of bullying so it can be stopped.

RSMS is absolutely amazing. We are so happy we made the switch. Our daughter was doing fine at traditional school, but we were just disappointed at the amount of memorization, worksheets, and teaching to the tests. There seemed to be no room for things like curiosity, self-direction, or individualism. It felt like little robots all doing the same thing quickly and without much thought. At RSMS, not only have the academics been great, but the school also focuses on life skills and traits that we value as a family - kindness, integrity, initiative, collaboration, empathy, community. The adults at the school are genuinely invested in each student. We moved our daughter for a more well-rounded education, but ironically, she has far surpassed where she would be academically at a traditional school. She is interested, curious, and loves learning and going to school. A far cry from the days of breathing down her throat as she completes worksheet after worksheet for HW, wondering why she has to do the same thing at home that she did all day at school!

RSMS is an amazing school that cares about each student. The teach in a true montessori format that has made my daughter advance in all subjects. They teach life skills along with manners and the academics are at high standards.

We love the school. My daughter is doing very well in all areas, and has the opportunity to work at her own pace. The teachers and administration are very supportive of all the students and their parents and they have created a very welcome environment. It's a great small school; and with that comes more involvement on the part of the parents, but I personally don't mind being a part of such a warm, caring, safe school. The teachers, parents, and students are all friendly so it's very inviting to be on the campus. The school events are a lot of fun too. It's great to have this option for students.

My children have been at Rising Sun Montessori for 2 years now. It has been a wonderful experience and we are so glad that we found a charter Montessori school that truly follows the Montessori method of teaching. Great teachers and a wonderful learning environment. Both children are thriving here.
