m extremely disappointed with this school. Erika Kirk was brought in during school hours with no prior notice to students or parents, and students were not allowed to opt out. They werent even told who would be speaking or what the presentation would be about.

The event promoted a controversial political organization and took place on the Friday before spring break, which felt intentional to avoid discussion or accountability. There has been no transparency about why this was approved or how much it cost.

Schools should be neutral, safe environments for learningnot places where students are forced to sit through unannounced, one-sided political messaging. This has seriously damaged my trust in the schools leadership.

My daughter does very well at this school, so far we have been here for 6 & 7th grade and plan to stay. I like the teachers, curriculum, uniform, student activities after school, the academics and my daughter has made a lot of friends here. That said, I am not religious and not white and I can say that we have had a good experience, but every child/family is different. I see that most families here are religious and sometimes I see that bleed into the parent activities or arts festival performances, but not the school teachings itself.

My 4th grade boy has been attending John Adams EDH since pre K and he absolutely loves it. There is no bullying and the teachers and Staff are amazing. We love the culture and the traditional education they receive. They are very traditional and teach traditional education. If you love USA and the history youbwere taught in school then you will love JAA. No woke crap or teaching pronouns. Just old fashioned value based education.

This charter school is Amazing. Its not for everyone. They focus on the whole child and building better PEOPLE not just students. They use a classical education meaning your kids will read what we read in school (Romeo and Juliet, Mice and Men, Little House on the Prarie etc) I never worry about what my kids are learning at this school. The dropping off and picking up situation has gotten bad this year with the expansion into a second building but they seem to be working on it.

This is a great school! This is my kids first year attending and it has been a wonderful experience! The comment about not to come to this school if you are non-white or non-catholicwow (we are none of those by the way). Parents need to stop thinking that their kids are perfect and that they are always the victim. I can attest that there are many kids at this school with serious behavior issues (as with any other schools) Teachers and Administrators are left to deal with all this. But as we all know it all starts at home!

My high school scholar transferred in after wanting a more rigorous environment. She knew from friends that the secondary program would be that at John Adams Academy.

She has thrived in learning how to read, annotated, ask good questions, think for herself as she has been pushed to develop within herself these virtues. It didnt come easy, she had moments when she was not sure she could NOT do it, but seeing her find itwithin herself as a teen, how to read well, think more deeply, and read material that was hard, made her see more in herself than I have ever seen.

I cant describe this change but she wanted it. My daughter has become a scholar. Thats what they call kids at JAA, not students, and it is evident that they CAN become scholars. It wasnt the administrative team making her do it, it wasnt the strict or demanding lecture of a forceful teacher, but rather a change within my daughter to have to push really hard, more than she thought she could and put in the time and major effort to succeed.

My advice. Its going to be hard. But good things are worth worth trying for and pushing yourself for. Thats when real growth in our selves and culture happens to become a servant leader.
Id say, its not for everyone, thats okay. But for those who want to learn how to learn, push yourself beyond boundaries you said I cant, but someone or something outside yourself can see within you, then this is the school for you.

I appreciate so many teachers who are dedicated to this type of learning and its making a difference in those they teach. Thank you.

I would not give this school any grading at all. If you are non White student or non catholic person, please do not join this school at all. We had a horrible experience with my kid attending this school. The first to complain always get the attention and the teachers never hear both the sides of the story to find out. I do not understand why this school is so special compared to other schools. They dont have have any Star assessments done nor Accelerated readers program as this programs help parents to understand the kids learning levels. They do not have Iready practice each day too to assess their math skills.

As a parent, I enrolled my scholar here last year in hopes that they would find academic success and a social-emotional well-being that had not existed prior. Last year was amazing for her and this year has been the complete opposite. The lack of respect for teachers and scholars from administration is astounding. The issues coming from the constant construction is hurting scholars from learning and continuously causes administration to lash out at children for acting like children. They are not receiving the support needed or respect as human beings that they deserve. It is a constant struggle to watch my scholar and their friends continue to foster a hate of school. We are considering changing, but are struggling to decide if that is the right choice, since it will be the last five months of school. Upper administration really needs to reassess what they are choosing to do throughout the school day against scholars and teachers. Otherwise, they may find a lack of both.

This school, if it could even be called that, is appalling. The so called work environment for high school students is a construction zone where no one can focus for obvious reasons and cant even hear their instructions. The lack of structure, support, and consistency coming from administration for teachers and scholars has made the school a physically and emotionally tolling environment. Let alone the fact that administration and parents are having to fill in for teachers because no one wants to be there. How are scholars supposed to become servant leaders if they cant even keep a teacher for a single semester?

Drop offs are fine, but pick-ups are on average 45-60 minutes long. Minimum days including Friday are double the average pick up time since every scholar TK-12 gets out at the exact same time. Parents are not allowed to park and pick up their children. This leaves only one option, block off all parking spaces and make them into highly confusing drive lines. While the drive line is sophisticated, the infrastructure was never designed to accommodate hundreds of vehicles. The school leadership is expanding the school with the purchase of a second building while not planning for the future pick up traffic congestion that results. There's absolutely no investment made in extra parking or carpooling options. This leads me to believe that obtaining educational funds is more important than supporting current families and staff in improved picks ups.

These pick ups are not only long, but also dangerous. I witnessed a crossing guard almost get hit by a car. Similarly, children are asked to toe the line of the sidewalk which is adjacent to the street. My child actually ran into the road to get into my car which was a few lanes away and almost got hit, but was luckily saved by compassionate staff. The drive line is too dangerous.

I notice that children, parents, and staff generally do not want to wait an hour after school to complete pick ups in inclement weather. We are risking children's lives in this heat. It is truly torture for everyone involved, and it is the sole reason I pulled my child out of this school. If JAA wants to retain scholars and staff, they need to fix this problem by investing money into expanding their parking lots and perhaps exploring a bus system.

Do not go to this school. None of the students or teachers were masks at all. These are demanded and enforced by the State of California. They are supposed to show the states required mask policy at flag every morning but skip this slide and continue to on to the announcements. This is putting other students and teachers at risked of getting infected. Multiple classrooms at this school are utility closets and reconverted offices. And they give there "scholars" detention for everything MINOR they can possibly do. They do not have teachers who are properly equipped to teach classes. They look great from the outside with there "10 core values" but not at all. I wouldn't recommend any parents send there 7-11 graders here. The staff is heavily underpaid, they don't maintain there field or outdoor recreation areas, and there blacktop/basketball courts are an actual parking lot. This school is so underfunded I can't believe the State can even consider this place a school.

My kids have been here for two years and have loved it (they are elementary aged). I have also worked here as a substitute teacher. The administration is committed to the schools core values and is always working to instill them in the students and staff. If there is room for improvement in some facet of the school, they acknowledge it and work to improve it. If a parent has a question or suggestion, the staff takes it seriously and addresses it. They especially try to empower students to make their ideas a reality, such as starting a club on campus. During the shutdown in March 2020, while other schools were floundering and left their students with nothing to do for weeks, this school quickly established distance learning and did a pretty fantastic job despite the circumstances. With so many unknowns in the Fall 2020 semester, they have done a great job of communicating and preparing.

This review is not on the quality of education provided. It focuses on the application process. My family was looking at this school as an alternative to our local public school. Through the application process, we found that there is a heavy reliance on email and text communication, yet the school website is out of date. Information provided through texts and the website gave the impression that lottery results would available promptly after. Eight business days later, and we just received notification of waitlisting. Websites need to be kept up to date to help facilitate information. Based on our experience, we decided that this school was not a good fit. The location is also not ideal being within an industrial area.

The teachers at John Adams really work to complete assignments and even projects 8m class so they can help the students succeed and so the kids can have the family time they need for a balanced life. They say their rule is about 10 minutes per grade each day, so 10 minutes for 1st grade, 20 minutes for second, but really that is for reading books at home. My 4th grader had only spelling practice. Middle schoolers have about an hour each night, but they are also given class time to study and work.
