Its a new (I think 6 years old at this point), public, non-charter, high school in a growing community. Students are a mixture of people who have grown up here in West Roseville (moving into the area when it was first constructed in the 2010 - 2019) and people who have moved here after selling their homes in the Bay (2019 - Ongoing). It is unique from ALL other high schools in the area because it is still relatively new and still finding its character. There have been several changes in leadership, teachers, coaches, etc but that is just starting to sort itself out and great teachers and coaches are starting to take root. In another 2 years West Park will either be one of the legendary high schools in the area or it will just be an 8/10 school. If you choose to send your student here (which would only happen because you're zoned for it), know that the school will try hard to give them opportunities to learn and excel.

From the perspective of a parent: If you have an A+ student, then they will do well here and get accepted to any college they aim for when they graduate. If you have an A- student, they will also do well here and get into most of the colleges they want. If you have a B range student....I wouldn't expect this high school to magically transform them into an A range student and, in some cases, its possible that they could slip into B- because the student body is so huge (and still growing). Many students (A+ through D-) plan to head to Sierra College as a stepping stone due to cost pressures coupled with not knowing what they want to be just yet and I have no idea how Great Schools measures those decisions. I think other "9" and "10" high schools in the RJUHSD are focused on sending kids beyond Sierra College, and that's fine....but it comes at a monetary and social cost.

Athletics, theater, music, dance, culture at West Park are evolving. Definitely some talented students that produce incredible performances including some regional, state and national level standouts. In terms of the area, I actually think West Park is one of the better opportunities for students to be "seen" in these areas. That wasn't always the case, but its true now.

I have no experience with students who experience more significant challenges beyond GPA and college readiness and therefore have no comment about how West Park works with them to help. Just please know that this is a LARGE school and will be bigger than all the others when its done.

As a parent with 2 students who attended West Park for all 4 years, we have all been consistently disappointed over and over in many ways. Everything I write in this review is gathered from my own experience listening to 4 years of stories from my children, their friends, and other parents. I have personally met with admin several times to address my concerns and although they seemed interested in my feedback, nothing ever changed. As a teacher myself, I have taught my children to value their education and work hard, so they are good students earning a GPA of 4.0 and 3.7. BUT this is more because of family values and a work-hard ethic, not driven by admin, teachers, or support staff at West Park. First, there is NO school culture. Teachers do not build relationships with students or help foster that between students. They got rid of the ONE thing that was supposed to do that, the advisory program, which was not run well anyway. No wonder staff and students voted to get rid of it. IF is was designed and implemented the way it should be, it would have a huge positive impact. Second, most teachers do not use effective teaching strategies. Many teachers have poor methods of teaching and do not use effective engagement strategies required for 90 min classes. I doubt there has been staff training for this because this has been my children's #1 complaint. Teachers are boring, lecture more than engage students in conversations and learning, and don't enfold passion into their practice. This is especially true in the Math and PE departments, which have the most student and parent complaints. Out of all the teachers and classes my kids attended during their high years, I only heard excitement for FIVE "good" teachers. This is HORRIBLE considering they had over 60 teachers between the 2 of them. Third, there are major issues with several coaches in at least 3 sports programs. The coaches are demeaning, rude to players and parents, and definitely do not uphold their athletic mission. Unfortunarely, the atheltic director does not follow through either and finds excuses to keep coaches onboard despite player and parent complaints. Last, I am appalled at the dress code acceptance, despite the dress code policy. It is shocking what is allowed at school. Overall, the lack of leaderhip from the school principal shows up with poor school culture and poor teacher efficacy. If given the chance to do it all over again, I would send my children elsewhere.

Despite what the other reviews say, westpark is new and is still pretty good (essp if you're thinking about getting into music). As a junior in AP Precalc i have to disagree a bit on what they say about the math department because I have met teachers that actually care about my wellbeing and taught me well, though I do understand that theres a few bad apples. However, the only compliant I have is that they do favor football coaches no matter what they do, for example, there's a certain PE coach that has had many complaints (by parents and student) and has the inability to problem solve yet the school has done nothing to address this issue(Which has been going on even before I was a freshman). Overall, PE department is the worst in my opinon. They also have a strict attendance and tardy schedule which I honestly think is a bit unnecessary (I know the attendance one is enforced by the district but its a bit insane to only be allowed 9 absences). If you have good discipline you should be fine and some of these reviews are just a a bit over the top, I dont think westpark is inherently good or bad.

This school often cares more about its reputation to the community than its students' well-being. West Park also lacks the flexibility it gives to students in ways such as doing work for other classes, restricting where you can eat at lunch or not, having a strict tardy policy, etc, and even restricting the amount of time you have in the Wellness Center, despite students struggles with mental health issues. Also, West Park has often failed to see the unauthenticity among the popular students, as the teachers and community usually see people in clubs like Christian Club or Unified Sports as nice, caring, and fostering when in reality most of the students in those clubs frequently do things that contradict those club values. Finally, most teachers, specifically the math department cannot teach to save their lives. There just very lazy and often leave us to figure the problems ourselves. Wouldn't recommend going here.

The math program at this school is pitiful. Specifically IM3. The teachers are not competent on the material and are watching videos in class on how to teach. I even had a teacher say If you don't understand, that's not my problem.

Considering West Park is a newly-built school, I know that there are limitations in regards to the availability of classes. However, I have heard multiple complaints, including myself, about the class selection provided by the school. There are some classes that are taught by teachers who do not have previous experience in that subject (some current and upcoming AP classes) and many students feel academically unstable in those classes. I think that there should be more classes available to students that lead toward certain professional fields, with teachers who have experience teaching those classes. Furthermore, the math department in West Park is inadequate for all levels. Most units feel rushed and the practice questions that are given to students are significantly easier than the tests and quizzes. I appreciate that the math teachers are knowledgeable and are sophisticated in mathematics itself, but there seems to be a trend among students who claim that they simply cannot teach. This is supported by the low scores seen across all math classes. Lastly, the social environment of the school is very poor. There are groups of students who are constantly rude and disruptive, and they seem to be staff favorites just because they are well-known and animated. There are clear social superiorities at this school. I have personally experienced a few insults or "teasing" situations in the years I've attended West Park. This isn't necessarily the school's fault, but I do recognize that the culture in this area is different from previous places I've lived. I wouldn't recommend this school to students who dislike cliques, similar to the ones portrayed in the media. Entitled "popular" kids, "weird" artsy kids, "nerdy/geeky" kids-- these labels do not sit right with me, but it is sad to see that this is how students categorize themselves into a specific group at West Park.

I would not reccomend this school to anyone, especially if you are planning to major in a stem field like engineering due to how bad Westparks math department is. An IM3 teacher had to go and run quickly to a stats teachers classroom just because she did not know how to teach the material which could hinder students learning. Additionally, another IM3 teacher got fired from his class since his fail rates where high and students cannot understand the material due to his poor teaching. Precalc students also have the same struggles, most of the students are failing and what you learn in class is barely applicable to that on the tests. (Ex: learned about the graphs of sine and cosine, and the test gave us an application problem, which we barely covered in class.) Finally, a decent chunk of math teachers just dont teach and just let the students figure the math on their own which some of their excuses were about how the school is meant to function.

If any staff member from WP is reading this,

PLEASE HIRE ACTUAL GOOD MATH TEACHERS WHO ACTUALLY HAVE THE WILL TO TEACH!

The teachers can be hit or miss. The school usually makes dumb decisions, such as the fact that they give therapy polls to only the freshmen and juniors, which is stupid. Worst part is the students. So much toxic jocks who want attention. I dont feel safe The counselors act like they care, but theyve never helped me cope with this stupid school. Theres constant cutting in the lunch line. Theres no privacy. Dont go to this school. You wont be safe or learn anything. Wont recommend.

The Math department is incompetent . Most of the teachers in that department cant teach or dont teach at all (Only 5 people out of 30ish students in an IM3 class passed.) and most people taking Precalc are failing due to it. Additionally, the admin does a poor job at handling issues such as bullying. And also why do they call their schedule a Master Schedule they keep constantly changing it and changing it.
