Our children have attended this school for 3 years now. Compared to several other elementary schools we have attended in other parts of California and in Texas, Palisadess is by far the best school we have had the pleasure to be a part of. The community building with the foundation and the PTA, the extra mostly free programs, the staff all around. Not to mention our new principal this year who is exceeding expectations. Public schools have gotten a bad rap, but Palisadess is just different. We love the capo beach neighborhood and the chill vibe at this school.

It reminds me of my small school back in the day and I am so grateful that my kids can bike here and are loved and supported

Palisades is a fun learning environment! Our family has loved our time at Palisades from in classroom celebrations to after school events. The staff works very close with parents to make learning fun but all can get involved to make the best year possible. Everyday hearing all the learning experiences that took place during the school day always brings so much joy to our ride home I look forward to hearing each day, full of excitement makes the best author.

We have had our children enrolled at Palisades for the past 5 years and we have loved every bit of it. The school lays at the top of a bluff with an incredible view of the ocean from the school grounds. It is also located conveniently at the end of the street that we live on and we really enjoy the luxury of walking to school. The teachers and faculty are welcoming, warm and supportive. Parent involvement is very strong and encouraged. The school events are plentiful and always so fun and well attended. We truly love Palisades Elementary and feel lucky that our children are apart of this wonderful community.

We have been at palisades since kindergarten and every year we are always so grateful for this school. The community of kids and parents really make the school shine. The small campus makes it so no kid goes unnoticed. It is located in such a safe small neighborhood and cant forget that recess ocean view. No school is perfect and there is always room for improvement but we truly love palisades and especially love how they are always looking for ways to improve. Go Waves!

We are wrapping up our first year at Palisades and we feel like we found a hidden gem by the sea. The school has the most small town feel for it from the principal being out front every morning greeting all the students with a big smile to all the fun events they plan and get sponsored throughout the year. Mrs, Garcia has been amazing with our daughter and we were also blessed with an amazing substitute teacher Mrs Johnson. Both show incredible love and care for all the kiddos and well thought lesson plans and crafts for these busy kids. If you are looking for a smaller school that feels like every staff member is looking out for your kid and amazing teachers this is it!

We have had a huge year of growth this year at this school. Our older son started grade 2 below grade level and struggled completing assignments prior to this school year. The special education learning support team and teachers helped him catch up to grade level and built confidence. The staff has been kind and supportive and helpful. The student and family family events throughout the year were great! The fall trunk or treat and welcome barbecue were some of our favorite family activities this year! We would highly recommend Palisades Elementary school!

The Palisades staff and community are one of a kind! We currently have two children attending palisades and both are blossoming into bright young men. The teaching staff is amazing with the kids. They are encouraging and caring which makes learning fun and excites them about going to school! The faculty is excellent with communication to parents and we love the extra curricular activities they put together. The families that make palisades possible are kind and welcoming! Our children have helped us build our community and network both on campus and off.

Palisades does an incredible job supporting the whole childnot just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. The schools commitment to social-emotional learning is something that really sets it apart. Students are regularly taught how to manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and resolve conflicts in positive ways.
The counselor, Mrs. Gavrila, is a true asset to the school. She leads thoughtful SEL lessons in the classrooms and offers ongoing programs that help students build confidence, empathy, and emotional resilience. From interactive group sessions to regular check-ins, its clear theres a strong foundation of care and intention behind everything she does.
We also love the consistent communication with familiesmonthly newsletters and accessible resources help us continue those conversations at home. Knowing that our child is not only learning, but also growing as a kind and emotionally aware person, gives us so much peace of mind. Palisades is a special place, and we feel incredibly lucky to be part of it.

Palisades is the best little school. Every morning we walk down the hill from our house and see the ocean, I think about how lucky we are to live here and have this school right in our neighborhood. There is such a great sense of community. It's small so the kids all know each other. The teachers know all the kids. The principal is very involved. Parents are all friends with each other. PTA is GREAT! There are so many wonderful opportunities, including free theater, art, and STEM programs after school. There is great special ed support and engagement. It's just an all-around great school.

Palisades Elementary School provides super fun family friendly activities throughout the year. The kick off barbecue is a great way to start the year, kids and parents have fun at trunk-or-treat in the fall. The partnership with the Laguna playhouse allowed many students to shine as stars in Moana, and the Spring Talent Show was super fun with a great MC! We are enjoying Palisades and all it has to offer!
We also enjoyed volunteering in the community garden to water and participate in keeping the space beautiful.

We have had such a positive experience at Palisades from our start 3 years ago. The teachers and staff are wonderful. Seeing the impact on our kids growth and development and bonds they build with them is so special.
The PTA and Palisades Foundation provide so many fun activities and programs beyond the classroom for the kids too. Im always blown away by the commitment and support of our community to make Palisades extra special for these kids.
Having the after school YMCA program on campus is also great for working parents.
But what makes palisades so special is the amazing community and friendships weve made.

Our family has had a truly positive experience at Palisades Elementary. With children currently in 2nd and 4th grade, weve seen firsthand how this school nurtures and supports its students in a way that goes beyond test scores or state rankings.
While Palisades may not have the highest state grade or the same level of funding as some of the surrounding schools, it has something far more valuablegenuine love, care, and community. The staff knows each child by name and treats every student with kindness and respect. Teachers go the extra mile to make sure students feel seen, heard, and supported academically and emotionally.
The school fosters a warm, inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated, and every family feels welcome. Communication with parents is strong, and the leadership is always willing to listen and collaborate.
Palisades Elementary may not always get the recognition it deserves, but its a place where kids grow with confidence, compassion, and a strong foundation for learning. Were grateful to be part of this school community and highly recommend it to other families.

One of the highlights for us has been the schools active involvement in charitable events. The kids love participating in charity drives and activities that teach them the value of giving back. Its a fun way for them to learn about empathy, while also making a positive impact on the community.
The teachers at Palisades are exceptional. They are caring, dedicated, and truly invested in each childs growth. Its clear that they know and understand each students unique needs, providing support both academically and emotionally. This personalized attention has made such a difference for our child, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have such involved educators.
Flag Friday is another standout tradition that our kids look forward to every week. The whole school gathers together for the Pledge of Allegiance, and its a wonderful way to build school spirit and unity. The excitement and pride the kids feel is contagious, and its a great way to start the day with a sense of community.
The arts and STEM programs at Palisades are fantastic. The school puts on amazing plays each year, and its a joy to watch the kids shine, whether theyre performing or working behind the scenes. The talent shows are also a fun way for kids to showcase their skills and creativity. Its heartwarming to see the students gain confidence while having fun and sharing their talents with their peers.
The STEM program is another reason we love Palisades. It encourages kids to think critically, problem-solve, and explore new concepts in science, technology, engineering, and math. The hands-on activities are both educational and engaging, making learning an exciting adventure.
Overall, Palisades Elementary has been an exceptional place for our children to learn, grow, and make lasting memories. The caring teachers, fun traditions, and strong community make it a truly special school. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of this wonderful family!

My daughter has gone to Palisades since kindergarten and we have enjoyed every year. She has formed bonds with every teacher she has had as well as the students there and we love how close it is to our community. Myself and my mother were also graduates at Palisades elementary school and in a few years I hope my son will be there as well. This is such a wonderful school and anyone who goes there are blessed to have it.

We are so happy with the education our child is receiving from Palisades. The teachers are so knowledgeable on various teaching modalities that provide engaging, fun, and hands on learning for the students. The administration and office staff are always the first to greet us every morning with a smile, music, and really make you feel like they are so happy to see you. They communicate effectively and in a timely manner. The specials include library, PE, music, garden, and special lunch bunch time with the teachers and school psychologist. Our child is happy to be at school every day! He has made so many friends and we love the community of families that attend the school. We absolutely love Palisades!

Palisades elementary is an absolute gem! We love our sweet neighborhood school and I couldnt imagine my kids going anywhere else. I love being able to volunteer and be on campus anytime I can. The teachers and admin staff are the sweetest and love the students. I love the communication between parents and staff with talking points as well as only two classes per grade. I cannot say a negative thing about this school! We love palisades!

We've had a wonderful experience at Palisades Elementary so far. The school community is warm and welcoming, and it truly feels like a team effort between teachers, staff, and families. The teachers are caring, dedicated, and create a positive learning environment in the classroom. Parents are also very involved, which helps strengthen the sense of community and support. Were grateful to be part of such a great school!

We have two children going through Palisades, and it has been a wonderful experience. The teachers are really invested in each child, and they provide individualized teaching with lessons that keep my kids excited to learn. My kids have taken advantage of the free after-school classes such as the Moana play and sports. The YMCA has on-site aftercare for convenience. The school encourages family involvement with lots of events, and the Friday Flag ceremony is a nice way to meet other parents and see how excited the kids are for their school. We love Palisades and are thrilled to be Waves!

My children have been at Palisades Elementary for 3 years and they have loved it. The teachers have all been amazing and we have had no issues with the staff. Every Friday morning the Principal (Ms. Bailey who is awesome) hosts a Flag Ceremony with all the students and parents are invited to attend. We always think it's so cool to see the many parents there with their coffee supporting their kids. The school has a strong little community feel. It's right in the middle of a safe neighborhood in Capo Beach overlooking the ocean. Great school!

As the parent of a student in the Structured Autism Class (SAC) at Palisades Elementary, I have had a great experience with the level of support and care that my child has received this year. This year, the program has offered a very scheduled and caring atmosphere in which my child has been able to learn and develop in both academic and social ways. The teachers and support staff are experienced, passionate and trained in implementing evidence based interventions. They spend quality time with each student to identify their strengths and weaknesses and provide them with the necessary support to help them develop and learn independently. We have received frequent and clear communication from the program, which has kept us well-informed and involved in our childs education. The program also pays much emphasis to a safe and healthy learning environment. I have never had to worry about my childs safety while at school, and I would like to thank the team for their efforts in providing a calm and organized classroom atmosphere. The staff, the support, and the focus on the students development have been great for my child. I would recommend this program to any family looking for successful learning environment for their child.

As a parent of a child in the structured autism class at Palisades Elementary, our experience was deeply disappointing and, at times, heartbreaking. This program, meant to serve students with moderate to severe needs, lacks the support and oversight it desperately requires from administration and the district. Teachers and staff are left without the tools or training needed to implement evidence-based practices, leaving students underserved and vulnerable.
Throughout our time there, we witnessed alarming situations. Children were put at risk due to untrained staff, both on campus and during field trips. Services were frequently cut without justification, and decisions were made without proper data collection, such as ABC data, to support their claims. The administration seemed more focused on cost-cutting than on providing the care and support these children deserve.
Perhaps most concerning was the use of full-body restraints on students, sometimes lasting over an hour, which felt both excessive and unjustifiable. These actions, paired with a lack of transparency and compassion from leadership, left families feeling helpless. By our final year, we knew several families pursuing due process due to the neglect and borderline abusive practices in this program.
No child should have to endure this kind of treatment, and no parent should have to fight so hard for their childs safety and education. This program fails its students in every sense, and I would not recommend it to any family seeking a supportive, evidence-based environment for their child.

There's a real sense of community at this school and many parents are extremely involved in classrooms and fundraising events. The school campus isn't fancy but it's a lovely campus that provides safe & happy place for kids to learn, play, and grow. We are extremely happy with Palisades Elementary School!

Highly recommend for anyone considering!

We absolutely love Palisades Elementary School! My kids look forward to going to school every day, and it's easy to see why. The teachers are not only highly skilled but also genuinely care about each student's success and well-being. They go above and beyond to make learning fun and engaging, which has made a huge difference in my children's enthusiasm for school.
The school community is welcoming and supportive, with a strong focus on fostering a positive environment where students can thrive academically and socially. My kids have made great friends here, and I appreciate how the school encourages involvement from parents.
The administration is responsive and always open to feedback, which shows their commitment to continuous improvement. They offer a variety of extracurricular activities that cater to a wide range of interests.
I highly recommend Palisades Elementary to any parent looking for a nurturing and academically solid school for their children. Its a place where kids are excited to learn and grow!

Palisades is outstanding. The teachers, staff and principal are wonderful. The school has a kind and caring culture with a growth mindset. My kids are provided with so many great opportunities to learn, grow, build confidence and shine. Palisades is truly a great school and we feel fortunate to have our boys there (and both my boys love it too!).

Bullying is not allowed at this school and they have regular assemblies about "Stomping out bullying".
Posted: August 27, 2017
The school asks the children to daily consider if their actions are safe and the right thing to do. This year the school implemented the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) Program which features three "Waves to Success". The 3 core guidelines are:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Ready to Learn

The principal, Curt Visca, is a wonderful man that conducts himself with integrity and love for his children. He is a good sport and shows up at every PTA sponsored event including Daddy/Daughter and Mommy/Son dances, Bingo night, school campout, Trunk or Treat, etc.
Posted: August 27, 2017
Fantastic school, administration, and faculty. The principal fosters an environment of creativity and kindness. This is a sweet and caring school. The district needs to address some building maintenance and security deficiencies but overall, we have had a very positive experience. The school also has a strong PTA which puts on great community events for the school and helps to fund field trips such as science camp and excursions to the San Juan Mission and the Ocean Institute and the Pilgrim Tall Ship.

Weekly homework folders are sent home every Monday. The children have daily reading requirements and homework that require parent review and daily signatures attesting that the work has been completed. The homework level is grade appropriate and effective. Letters and emails are sent to parents on a regular basis to ensure that the parents are aware of the subjects being studied.

I'm sure it varies with each teacher but for the last 3 years, both my children have had wonderful, caring, and compassionate teachers that pushed them and encouraged them to excel. Prior to moving to Capo Beach, they were at a school that was a 10 rating by GreatSchools and I have not noticed any difference in the quality of the teaching staff. The school also has a great music program for 4th and 5th graders with students learning violin and cello which each student being provide with their own instruments to take home.
Posted: February 3, 2017
Neutral overall. If you have a self motivated learner who does not need constant supervision, you'll be great. If you have a child who does need support, you will not get it here. There is a VERY poor standard for parent/teacher communication, and the grading system is LOW. They give easy grades and I do not understand why. Many of the teachers have been here for decades or are brand new. There doesn't seem to be positive collaboration between teachers or grades. It is wonderful to see how many children walk and ride bikes to the school, but that's reaching for something positive. The school does not take any pride in academics - it's more focused on it's ridiculous fundraiser called "The Pooper Bowl" than it is in producing academically prepared children who are ready for Middle School and High School. This is a major downfall of the area in general, and is not acceptable or consistent with the home prices in the area. Step up Palisades.
Posted: February 3, 2017
There is little to no communication with parents about homework, signing off on assignment completed, or not turned in. It doesn't take long for savvy students to figure out the laxidasical practices of the teachers to skate by.
Posted: February 3, 2017
Again, terrible communication. Moreover, there are new and old teachers in all grades who do not work together to provide equal opportunities for students. Depending on your child's teacher, you will have a really bad academic year or a good one.
Posted: February 3, 2017
Playground/lunch supervisors are babysitters who constantly deal with misbehaved children and who repeatedly get away with horrible language and behavior. This is K-5, not high school. They look past physical altercations, do not empower or acknowledge potential leaders. If your child is in the middle, they will fall far behind at Palisades.
Posted: February 3, 2017
Principal is fun and engaging to the students. But he does not drive the leadership among the teachers to be at their best. Teaching is inconsistent, and security is poor. The principal is very nice, but he's more interested in being fun than he is in being effective. The academic drive at this school is the lowest in the district. It's only getting worse with each passing year.
Posted: February 3, 2017
Palisades has an excellent special education program. Students are included as much as possible, and traditional students become accustomed to special learners. This aspect is the best thing the school has going for it.
Posted: February 3, 2017
Depends on the teacher, the lunch superviosors, and yoru child. There is a tremendous amount of foul language used by kids on a daily basis. It's expected because of the diversity of the neighborhood. There is no adherence to dress code, etc. and students are basically allowed to behave as want to avoid teacher having to deal with it for the betterment of good students. Teachers do little more than call parents (only in the worst case scenarios) about it.
Posted: November 22, 2016
All white school, no diversity among the students and teachers. My child was criticized by blonde haired white students about her skin color, she came home crying. Hard to see my child upset as you can imagine. Problem was raised to school staff and nothing was done about the issue. That's ok my daughter is a strong kid, she ignores their comments.

Great teachers! Principle seems to be on the side of the parent, nice guy, but don't expect to get certain things done! He has a tendency to bury his head in the sand when action needs to be taken.

My son loved Palisades. He went from 2nd-5th. He loved all of his teachers and had a great experience.
