100% different environment with our new administration! Teachers are happy now! Students finally have school spirit. Both of which began during distance learning because everyone saw our NEW principal Egan participating in activities & communicated information promptly. There is still work to be done to correct the aftermath of the previous administration, but 90+% of the teachers are dedicated/supportive, various programs of interest (HISP, VAPA, ROTC, CJA, LPPA), high achieving athletics, and diversity in socioeconomics, culture & language. In a year or two it will be 5+ stars. (This is Egans second year)

The main reasons why I like this school are the teachers I have, the programs, and having friends. Many times I do regret going to McClatchy. Now I understand why previous teachers and family friends advised to go to West Campus.

I cannot claim for regular classes. If you are in HISP, your homework fluctuates. AFJROTC requires you to maintain and wear the uniform. You also need to know and remember marching steps and parts of the program.

Like with the homework, teachers vary from classes and programs. I feel horrible for teachers because they do care but are put up with the administrators. Teachers have to be careful or else the administrators may use teachers actions to fire them. Then there teachers siding with administrators. My teachers do talk to students and make sure they are well, and Im glad. It is also difficult to be close with counselors due to the number of students. You have to be aggressive with counselors. They dont tell you everything.

Like with homework and teachers, it varies. HISP are either the students trying get into college or put no effort. They are well ignored and somewhat hated on because of their status on having difficult, challenging core classes. The racist science project was based on HISPs selection process and from one of HISP students. AFJROTC students know when to be serious and loose. AFJROTC cadets learn other tools such as leadership, teamwork, and getting used to the natural hierarchy. Due to the school environment, students are unmotivated unless you are in a program.

Different programs are the main reasons. Students are usually grouped together like in HISP, where all the try-hard students in core classes. AFJROTC has a range of students. With some future projects like tutoring and pressure on maintaining grades, cadets will get help they needed.

You have to deal with it yourself most of the time. If you are close with teachers then maybe they will help you. Do NOT bother asking for administrators help. If file in a bullying report, usually not looked at.

C.K. McClatchy is a wonderful school! They have a beautiful campus and the most diverse student body in the district. They have many programs Noticeably, their AFJROTC program is starting to become fairly strong, also there's Law & Policy, Police Academy, and I'd admit that the HISP Program here is very rigorous (much better than JFK's PACE), but the students who are not in this program are obviously ignored and overlooked. Unfortunately, the English and History classes provided for them lack the support that HISP has. I hope they strengthen their curriculum soon, especially their new AP Literature and Composition class. They should probably get more counselors for their large student body; ones that care for their student and take an initiative to see their students more often than twice a school year. On the other hand, CKM provides many extra-curricular activities. As long as you participate and be involved, you can easily become a well-rounded student surrounded by other very talented students. It s a community where you pitch in the work to be the best not only for yourself, but for CKM as a whole. It s the pride of knowing that "IT s (always!) A GOOD DAY TO BE A LION!

For parents interested in their child's performance, there are few options besides going directly to the school. In this age of technology, there should be a schoolwide online system available like there is at nearly ever other school I have encountered in the last 3 years.

If your going to have your kid go to CKM then your going to want them to go into HISP. I have kids in the program and they say it is much better than just the regular teaching environment... They have the better kids in that program and they stay out of trouble. Go Lions!
