Don’t send your kid here! They have the most ridiculous rules you can imagine. It’s so strict it sucks all the fun out of learning. Rules are “keep one hand on the playground equipment at all times” “no touching” even if you’re arm wrestling, “no running on the black top” “no tag”. If you’re raising a weak child it would be the perfect fit. They went on lockdown for “suspected mountain lion sightings” and didn’t feed the kids lunch that day. The principal is concerned with her professional optics and it hasn’t registered to her why no one wants to participate in after school events. There are no open houses to see kids classrooms, all the teachers are in a rush, they hardly take field trips. It’s worse than the military because there’s no bonding or camaraderie. Expect 1.5 hours of homework each single night, old boring teachers, a pretentious principal and misery. Fundamental…. Ya sure. If you want to watch your child’s love of learning slowly fade away this is the place for you.

School does not feel safe, homework is every day, teachers are mean and shout all the time, principal is unfair towards students. Do not recommend!

I really love this school! I am glad i moved my child here. Yes they have stricter rules but i like how they approach the issues that occur. Its not to punish the student but have them learn and stay safe. Money raised really does go back to the students, events, field trips, in class supplies. Communication is so clear in this school. They are very organized! Staff is friendly , there is a free book club in the mornings. I have not seen any bullying, or parents out of control like at our previous school. Principal is such a gem! Shes sweet and always says hi. I love the staff during pickup guiding parents to keep vehicles moving really helps. They have a beautiful field with a track kids can run. Only wish they would allow the kiddos to play tag , they all love to but i get its to keep them safe. Homework is every day and the teachers go above and beyond to prepare these students for middle school, I love how much they care!

I am currently on my 3rd child to go through Green Oaks over an almost 20 year period and I can say whole heartedly I love this school! The staff is absolutly so supportive of the kids, the parents, and eachother. There are too many stand out staff members to name, I could compliment half the school. This school is somewhat academically rigorous (expect homework nightly) but they do also meet kids where they are at and adjust workloads accordingly. I have personally experienced a very positive, safe learning environment for my kiddos. There is an above average amount of parent involvement and volunteering and it shows! The new principle seems to be a perfect fit for the school and has really put some energy into making the school more fun:) Literally no complaints.

Green oaks was a wonderful school when my now 7th grader attended 1st-4th… since Covid we lost a quite a few excellent teachers (some retired) and now they seem to promote leftism agendas with gay pride flags even worn by the new principal and BLM …they’re not helpful when your child is bullied… there is a lot of homework BUT I was aware of that. I do PRAISE the resource teachers with their excellent help with my child. I do have great things to say about Amy Givvens.
I just enrolled my youngest who started there this year to a conservative school up the hill. I don’t want my children brainwashed with nonsense such and being taught about transgenders and such at an early age. I feel all this gay pride should be kept at home instead of distracting our kids from learning what’s important.
I also dislike how siblings can not attend events held at the school, so I’d have to find a babysitter to watch my younger ones while I attended my enrolled child’s event.

This is funny! There is SO much bullying going on at green oaks. The Principle just keeps sliding it under the rug. He's very good with his words makes you feel like he cares and NEVER follows through.

We came to this school 5 years ago. It was an amazing school and I felt so blessed to be there. Over the years the principle has turned this school into a prison. The parents are constinantly disrespected and the children are put down on a daily basis. They are made to feel if they are learning at a certain speed there is something medically wrong with them and they should be put on medication. It's so sad that this school has really gone down hill. I'm currently touring other schools for my kids. Saddest thing is the district won't do anything to change the situation. The principle walks into the class rooms and you can see the tension from all the teachers. Fear spews from thier expressions. The yard duties have also expressed that they feel like "prison guards" during lunch duty. It really is a shame. The school is as good as its leader and right now it's not a very good leader. Maybe the district will put a new principle there.

The home work is way to much. A 1st grader should not be doing 2hours of homework each night. Let's not forget they are kids!!

I really had high hopes for this school. It is rated high but I have to say that if your child does not completely conform to the way they think every child should act then they are made to feel inferior. We moved to orangevale over 5 years ago and my oldest son moved from a school that was not as academically advanced as GReen oaks and he also has a learning disability. He went there for two years before he went to Pasture. Those were the two worst years of his life. The teachers made no effort to help him but they had no problem making him feel terrible. I had one teacher pull him out of the class in front of the other students and made him cry while all the other students watched because he was struggling and was completely shutting down. When he went to pasture he finally started making friends and blossomed in school. His brother is now in the school and we are going to be moving him soon because we see the same thing happening to him. I know he can be a challenge but they really know how to break a childs confidence. Don't get me wrong, we had a couple awesome teachers over the years, but just a couple. I had a teacher tell me one time that he would not want his own kids going to this school.

We came to Green Oaks from a local private Catholic school and within the first week I knew I had wasted years of money on tuition. Green oaks has blown me away, from administration, teachers, curriculum implementation and family involvement, this school has been nothing but fantastic. If you are looking for a school that will bring out the very best in your child and help them to perform to the best of their ability this is the school for you!

This is our 3 year there and over the summer my 7 year old daughter had a stroke. Green Oaks isn't exactly set up to help children with challenges but they managed to still get her back to school on the first day and the resource teachers have made every effort to make it a positive experience. We have set up an education plan that accommodates her needs but gives her a chance to succeed and stay caught up with her class and as normal as possible. The Principal has been very communitive with me to make sure everything works out smoothly, my daughter is getting an education at school and at home and has the time to heal at the same time. If any school deserves an award and recognition it is Green Oaks. The resource teacher Kaylelyn S has been a life saver to me and our advocate and has made every effort to make sure my daughter, Cadence, is treated fairly. Because of Cadence's hard work and bravery she has been chosen to be a miracle family this year for the UC Davis Miracle Network and we hope to find a way to give back to our wonderful school and the wonderful children and families there, who by they way have never once teased her for her disabilities. This is a great school. My son loves to be there everyday. He learned a lot. There are some things need to be improve. The teacher is not very welcoming and it is very hard to find a time to talk to her. One of the office staffs who sits in the back is very helpful with having always a smile , but the other one is not the one I would like to answer my questions. The safety of the school is low. There is no gate/restriction on who comes and goes to school. The wait time for the pick up line is too much. There is not any pre-time test schedule for the 1st grade, if so we can practice with the kids and make them ready for the test. Overall the school is good and I refered it to my friend. She is going to have her child in Kindergarten next year.

My child is now in first grade at Green Oaks and I couldn't be happier. The structure the school provides makes the kids feel safe and provides a routine that helps them know what is expected of them. I like the school rules even though at first they seem excessive, but then you come to find out that they have simply thought in advance about how they would like things handled. This means there isn't any guessing as to what to do as a parent or kid and the rules aren't made up as they go along. I like the principal and have found him to be very fair and thinks things out before coming to a decision. He consults the staff and always tries to implement a policy that is best for the kids. The key to this school is the parent volunteers. With all the help from the parents the teachers can teach instead of doing paperwork, go on trips that otherwise wouldn't be possible and do projects that require a lot of help. In our first grade class we have 30 kids and 21 parents who volunteer to work in the class on a rotating daily basis. The other parents do work at home, help on special projects, etc. All the parents helping means even if you are not in the class that day, another parent is.
