Horrible school, horrible Principal, horrible experience. .Most of the kids knew each other from grade school and most had friends they grew up with. My child was bullied as she knew no one there. If she protected her self and faught back, it was considered compliant and she got in trouble. I told her not to fight back and let teachers know. She then was bullied and attacked again, several more times. She was attacked again, and the crowed surrounded her and would not let her get away. The aggressor was written up several times. Nothing was done. Instead my child acts out because she feels the school can't or refuses to protect her so she is left with no choice to protect herself. Now my child is on an IEP. She has difficuilty learning and the calls my child stupid and dumb. She doesn't handle it well. The Principal doesn't help, I found out she attended IYT when one knew she was there so school officials and Bridges did not know where she was for a time; lost her. I never gave permission for attendance to this club. She also attends another club I didn't give permission for her to join and told by the Principal, If club is during school time she has no control if the child wants to to joing or not. So now she takes my parenting rights away. The school would not give me names or contact police. when my child was bullied. Instead of handling things, the Princial starts padding her file with anything unsatisfactory action. I don't vap, dont have any vaps, buy vaps and don't have ppl over that does. Yet some kid gives her a vap and the school pads her file instead of contacting the other kids parent why he has a vape at school. Fast forward to this year. Bridges lets kids sign themselves out and they leave campus. Why is any child sighing themselves out without parent permissions. I call them when I'm there or go to the Bridges room and get them. Fast forward, the bully taunts and teases my child where it boils over next day and fight occures. Principal calls police to issue a citation and request expulsion to the District. Now has to go to another school, no mention of the report my kid made last year and Vice Principal states he wasn't at Sylvan last year, but no one thought to give the reports from last year when the child bullied my chiild. The teacher did not intervene when she saw a crowd of ppl even those she recognize not in her class. School padded her file then took steps to give child a criminal record. Pathetic.

Our experience with Sylvan Middle School has been extremely disappointing and frustrating. The administration, particularly the principal, appears to target certain students and allows personal feelings to influence disciplinary decisions rather than relying on facts, consistency, or fair investigation.
We have been repeatedly given inaccurate and misleading information about our son’s behavior. When we asked for clarification or evidence, stories changed, details were vague, and accountability was avoided. Instead of working collaboratively with our family to support a struggling student, the school chose punishment, escalation, and exclusion.
There is a clear lack of transparency and professionalism. Decisions seem reactive rather than thoughtful, and once a student is labeled, it feels nearly impossible for them to be treated objectively. This has caused unnecessary stress for our child and our family.
A middle school should be a place where students are guided, supported, and taught how to grow — not singled out or pushed out. Unfortunately, Sylvan Middle School has failed to meet that standard. Based on our experience, this is one of the worst schools in the area in terms of leadership, communication, and student advocacy.
I would strongly caution parents to ask hard questions and document everything if they have a child who needs support rather than punishment. We have been lied to and discriminated. It's time this school gets new staff . Protect your child from this abuse.

All the people who are saying this is bad are telling lies they don’t know anything the only reason they are getting bullied is because they tell on other people there isn’t that much of bullying but to agree there is bad teaching the school isn’t half bad tho

I'm a student going to Sylvan and it's safe to say... It sucks the bullying problem is the biggest issue. However most teachers are really nice and there are SOME good people. Overall I would not recommend unless you want your child getting hurt

This school is awful. This is probably the only up-to-date review but the school has had multiple instances of bullying, and this school has caused my daughter to go from A’s and B’s to F’s. They have also no shame in yelling at children. My kid has came home crying just because the teachers. Would not recommend. Do NOT send your kids here.

This school has a high incidents of bullying. The administration does it best with controlling it, but I can tell you that SO much goes on that they can't control it. It's especially among girls. Some of them are totally out of control in the classroom and in interpersonal relations with other girls. Boys here seem much nicer. Recommend this school for boys but not necessarily for girls who may be more susceptible to bullying from other girls. The teachers - with one or two exceptions- are fantastic. They are so committed and understanding. Our child has depression and anxiety and the whole staff- from each teacher to the administration- have been SO supportive. Doesn't mean they could stop the almost daily bullying. They can''t be everywhere. But this can- and will- happen at any middle school and high school. It needs to have severe consequences, but suspensions and expulsions are now frowned upon the state. Worst punishment here is that the repulsive student has to have lunch with the vice-principal. Just keep in mind that 95% of the teachers here are very sweet, are totally receptive to your wishes, and are SO supportive of the child and their parents.

We were worried to send our child to Sylvan based on the comments from Great Schools, however we have been pleasantly surprised on how well the school has been for my child. Please take the reviews listed on this site with a grain of salt. Visit the school site and talk to the staff. The school has recently been rebuilt, and both the STEM and Band program are excellent.

This school is good but bad. About three teachers ruin this school.. If your on the honor role and avid, you should get a really good education, if your not, hope you don't get the teachers that scream at you and don't teach you.

this is the worst school i could have sent my child to. when i went to sylvan the teachers talked the parents and cared for the students now im referred to a website that is never updated. i know teachers dont make much money but they choose their cereer path and they should follow through and help our kids. strait A's to F's what a sad school

I am a student attending Sylvan Middle School, and I must say it is doing a fine job in teaching me not only the subject of that class, but other important life lessons as well. I can guarantee my own safety and I am certain that I will leave Sylvan knowing I can have a bright future. The principal is not a nice man however.
