Teachers are great but office staff is incredibly rude and unprofessional. The school nurse is also a huge liability she told us she was uncomfortable using a rescue medication our child could need if he had a seizure. Her incompetence and physical limitations are very concerning.

At one time they did. They offered a support group at lunchtime once a week to help stop bullying and teach them what to do if they are bullied or the one bullying. Now they tend to ignore it. Especially the yard duty staff at lunchtime.

Some of the teachers provide a small amount of homework each day which maybe take about 1/2 an hour of child’s time. Then some teachers send not only homework home but unfinished class work home as well. Then you have the middle school that really depends on what gets done in class to determine what is homework and what isn’t but normally none is sent home. It’s mainly 4th grade on down

Overall I really enjoy the school and is grateful my kids have the opportunity to be apart of it. The offer so much more than any other school can offer

Once again, some of the kids who are mean to other kids get character count awards. So the reward for bad behavior. A lot of times it is brought to their attention, but if it is a teacher's kid or kid who's family is "donating" then the other kids are told to quit tattle tale.

Kids are allowed to do whatever they want; act badly towards others, disrespectful, etc with no consequences

Posted: May 18, 2018

A kid can hit another multiple times, call names using profanity, shove, etc and not have any consequences. This is happening there way too often. They have no discipline policy so all parents are aware of discipline actions. It is at their discretion. So if a teacher's kid does something wrong nothing happens. Maybe a lecture to that kid and another kid pink slipped for same behavior problem. This is why there is so much violence and suicides; bullies are not disciplined for their actions, allowing them to think what they are doing is no big deal. The victims don't speak up because nothing is done anyways and school is allowing bullies to behave this way with no consequences.

Administration is awful. If some parents have a general concern about their child, one of the secretary's just laughed and told the parent principal wouldn't be able to speak with that parent because she was not available until maybe following week. I think if they have a concerned parent about safety of child, that should take priority. Parents are concerned about children and no-one wants to take it seriously. There is way too much violence in schools these days. The school should know by now to take every concern seriously to stop bad behaviors before it's too late!

Office staff is super helpful but the rest is super unfriendly. As I picked my grandchild up for the day I noticed children bullying each other in front of teachers with no positive response.

Posted: October 17, 2016

Teachers and staff are terrible and inconsiderable. Students put one another down and teachers will not interfere as parents would hope so.

Posted: October 17, 2016

Most staff are NOT bilingual and are unable to communicate with parents. Other bilingual parents help one another when a teacher rudely asks bystanders to interpret.

Posted: October 17, 2016

Teachers will not respond to bullying within students and will actually go along with, it's very sad but a teacher was giggling as a student put another student down with his mean words.

As a parent and teacher there, it's a great school and it starts at the top. There is a culture of teamwork, support, and an atmosphere of desire for the best for the students.

Both of my children graduated from Sundale. They were well prepared for high school and life. The teachers and staff took time to get to really know my kids. My kids and their friends continually return to say hi to a home away.from home. Thank you Sundale Board, Administration.and staff for making it about the kids.

I love that Sundale is home to both of my grand daughters. They are not only afforded excellent curriculum but the advantage of receiving instruction from Terrific and Magnificent teachers each and every day! I truly enjoy helping in the classrooms when I can. Parent involvement is encouraged and supported by the school and teachers! I love watching my son, now take such an active role in education of both his daughters. Since the entrance of my oldest grand daughter, most of the children have become accustomed to calling me "Tutu"...a role I enjoy taking for all the "little growing edges of the world" at Sundale. Our children have attended some of the best schools in the state (ranked a 9+ on this site), elementary, middle school and high school. I would say that we have been the most pleased with Sundale. Teachers are accessible, the administration invites parental participation, and parents are more involved than anywhere else we have been. We have been at the school for three years now and have had children in every grade except 4th and 8th. While no teacher is perfect, there is definitely a commitment at this school to developing excellent teachers. This school is about community, and has done more to reach out to those in its community than any public or private school that we know. Recently the school and its foundation opened a learning center in a struggling neighborhood that serves a number of students and their families. If you want to see what excellent public education looks like, come to Sundale. This school has a small community feel while appreciating the diversity found in its community.

I went to Sundale from K -8th grade. Graduated 8th grade in 1996. This School harvested the worst memories of my entire life. My little brothers 4th grade teacher had ten-year, and she stood him up in front of his entire class in the 4th grade telling him how horrible of a person he was and how he brought nothing but shame to our family. He was a student with disabilities, and he was heavily discriminated against in front of his peers. This made the students pick on him and mistreat him all thru high school. Afterall, if its ok for the teacher, its ok for the student. Most the kids who went to school with me were from poor families who either abused neglected or didnt pay enough attention to their children. All of the kids to some extent were bullies and got away with just about anything as far as what happened at school. Granted my parents were poor and we never had new clothes, just hand me downs from my cousins etc, but we were good kids. Nothing that deserved what we had growing up. I'm just sad that I had to leave the State to feel like I never had to look back. I do NOT recommend sending your kids to this school.

Sundale is such a great school! The staff is great and the parents are well involved as much as the faculty. They push students to try their best and to understand how it will be in the later future, to strive and go to college. It was such a great experience attending there the whole 8 years including preschool. It is not about the money, but about the children and their future. I am proud now to be attending a university, and Sundale had a lot to do with that.

Sad to see such a great school going downhill, fast! The staff at the elementary level is good, although as your child climbs through the grades into middle school level; good is far fetched. Administration, I'll just leave it at that, nothing to say, but it's not a democracy it resembles a dictatorship. Is spending money the main concern, is the 'wealth' of the school the main goal, I thought it was education, when as of five years ago the Social Studies books still had maps of the Soviet Union in the back it's time to save on the spending in architecture and use it in the classrooms for books! Every school has its flaws and this school has many great programs and teachers. Although let's focus on the education of our youth, not the politics, it's Tulare not D.C.!
