Cypress is such a quaint, safe, and lovely school! I have had kids here at Cypress for over 10 years and they have all thrived. The teachers are truly caring and the administration and staff are amazing too! Cypress is now an Internaional Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme school which means that Cypress offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. All students learn Spanish too! I cannot recommend this special school enough!

Our family has been at Cypress for 10 years now. It's an absolutely wonderful school with amazing teachers, an engaged principal and wonderful kids and families. The teachers are very mindful about inclusion and Cypress is becoming an IB School (International Baccalaureate) which focuses on developing lifelong learners. The PTA supports many enrichment activities such as Spanish, Physical Education, Art and Music and puts on family friendly events monthly. You can see the beautiful Santa Monica Mountain range from the fields and blacktop to boot! I cannot recommend this gem of a school enough!

I like this school. My son could find friends there. The teachers and schools staff are nice and friendly. There is a lack of diversity but I found that people are helpful there.

This school is a great school if you are a Caucasian. This school lacks diversity. Teachers and all the staff needs to go through diversity and inclusion training. I felt like this school is in Idaho or Nebraska or Alabama compared to SoCal because of complete disregard for minority students. You can sense the deep rooted racism in this school and animosity towards minority students from top to bottom. This school is a great example of inculcating white privilege from childhood in the society. Minority parents and students never get a voice.

The principal has come to this school and corrected several problems, without going into detail or blaming anyone, she has brought the school into compliance in all aspects and takes her job seriously. She has always been available to talk when it has been needed and has always found a great solution to the issue at hand. She loves the students and know every student by name.

Many students learn differently and some students act out and need more attention than others. The faculty has been very effective helping students that need different learning styles, however, the student and the parents need to WANT to utilize these techniques. Not everyone wants their child singled out with special teaching but they want the results. It is a fine line for the faculty.

Bullying is not an issue at this school. There are different interpretations of bulling but the actual term defined as "bullying" is not an issue at this school and they teach the children all about bullying. A "mean" child that makes your child cry is not necessarily a "bully" if your child has a problem with another child it does not mean one or the other is a bully, children are learning how to navigate social interactions and different cultures and family customs teach children different ways to deal with this. The school does a fantastic job of stopping bullying.

This school follows the district homework guidelines. Many parents don't realize the district sets the homework policy. I found that my child finished his homework much quicker than was expected by the school.

The teachers care about the students and find ways to help the student meet his/her potential with individual attention when needed.

They have several programs running simultaneously to keep the students focused on respect, compassion etc. They have a mindfulness program that runs all the time. The students are very receptive to these programs.

My son has been in this school since Kindergarten and we love the school; HE loves the school. We have many friends that we have met from this school and they all love this school. The school we are "assigned" to is not a very good school compared to Cypress that is why we "school choiced" here. Cypress administration, and faculty care deeply and work hard for the students, and the parents as a group are amazing. There are a lot of very involved parents and it is amazing how much of a better experience the students have when the parents are involved. The involved parents also seem to have fewer issues with anything going on at the school because they know what is going on and understand all the extraordinary efforts that are being taken to make the students better people and great students.

Cypress has been such a pleasant experience for our family. Such a clean, quaint school nestled along side natures beautiful mountains. The campus feels very safe, kids are all happy and eager, teachers are very organized and really care for their students. Events and social activities are super fun and seem to have lots of parent support. Ive been super happy with all Ive seen at Cypress!

Both of my kids have had very effective teachers throughout the years. Of course each teacher has their own way, but it has taught my children the value of different strengths and how to thrive in different environments.

All of the kids I have encountered have been polite, friendly, happy and know the difference between right and wrong.

Love this hidden gem at a school and will be sending my kindergartner there when the time comes after sending two kids through the school. The teachers are all strong, the administration really cares, and if you put in an effort you will see a return. Very strong PTA who really has the best interest of the kids.

My children never spend more than the recommend age time limit on homework.
Posted: March 5, 2019
I have no doubt that any teacher in any grade will do a great job with my child.
Posted: March 5, 2019
Between mindfulness classes, international fairs and ability awareness this school is really making an effort to crate strong and compassionate kids.

I think being a principal is a hard job, not one person will do it perfect. The current principal could name every kid in the school just by looking at them and knows most families.

My child kept getting in the same class with the same problem kids. My child couldn't meet full potential because of lack of attention and teacher didn't seem to know my child. First grade teacher was unorganized and was lacking in classroom management. Teachers didn't seem to collaborate- one class had well-behaved and high performing kids while the other class had lots of issues. My child was tracked and we felt doomed that we'll never get a chance to get a good strong teacher.
Teachers could be more up to date with their teaching strategies.....
Language arts grades based on 1 test in K-2 , the report card is a joke! It doesn't even address all of the required CA Common Core standards.

Cypress is a hidden gem in Newbury Park! The teachers are truly amazing, there is a small family feel on campus, and the principal is outstanding. I could not be happier with our experience at this wonderful school and I feel VERY lucky to live in an area with a neighborhood school like this. The academics are exemplary, and equally as important, the teachers and staff truly care about the students. Cypress is the BEST!!!

The teachers we have had so far have been truly amazing in every way- caring, patient, kind, nurturing and have totally prepared our student for the next grade. We could not be more thrilled with the teachers at this school!

There is a reasonable amount of homework each night, and is reinforcement of lessons taught at school that day- NOT busy work. There is no homework on the weekends.
Posted: May 23, 2016
This school encourages and rewards integrity, perseverance, and honesty and the teachers and staff lead by example and show these qualities each and every day.

Cypress is a good school if your child has a good teacher. The principal is open only to certain parent's requests for particular teachers. I'm not sure why some parents get every request and others don't get any requests. Watch out if you ask that your child not be placed in a particular class, they do it anyways. There are some teachers that are not good.
