We have been part of this school and church community for more than 3 years now and this school provides academic opportunity, a robust extracurricular environment to broaden their horizons such as athletics and art, as well as a safe learning environment. Definitely have recommended this school to family and friends!

I would give zero stars if i could. I have seen multiple basketball and flag football games and these are the most aggressive children with the worst sportsmanship i have ever come across. One of them punched a much smaller child during FLAG (not tackle) football, and then started laughing at him and asking if he was going to call his mommy. The coaches did nothing to rectify his atrocious behavior. This is not the school for you if you care about your kids having a good moral compass or caring about others.

We attended this school for almost 5 years. Very kind and friendly teachers in general but pretty poor communication. Most the issues at this school seem to be a result of the school getting too large. At almost 1000 students, this school is now bigger than all the local public schools as well as the other local private Catholic schools. Class sizes are about 24 students on average. Offerings such as play performances get waitlisted. Overall, day in and day out was chaotic in almost every aspect. Children cutting each others hair in the preschool area, kindergarteners skipping lunch to go play, small children balling crying with no aide or teacher in sight so I consulted him as I witnessed it walking by, and a boy crying saying another boy choked him during the after school care are just a few examples of our experience the past year. It is a bit of a turnoff as well that many of the families attending arent Catholic and have come to the school after the pandemic and are blatantly disrespectful to the Catholic religion such as parents complaining on the parent chat groups about having to wear uniforms and going to mass on holy days of obligation saying their child calls it boring. If Catholicism isnt something a parent desires or respects than they should not be enrolling in Catholic school. These schools are not meant to be an escape from whatever they are afraid of elsewhere. It is unfortunate St. Ed has essentially become a public school with private school tuition and some Catholicism. It used to be much better as a small Catholic school.

After several years invested at St. Ed, our family made the difficult decision to leave. Pre-school thru 3rd grade were wonderful, with warm and kind teachers who truly care. After that it went downhill fast. By 4th grade, about 75% of the kids can be described as dumb, inattentive, immature, poorly-behaved, and entitled. So much so that in the same year, both the travel company coordinating the Sacramento trip and another field trip venue complained to Principal Waszak about behavior. Most of the blame falls on poor parenting, of course, but the teachers and admin are totally impotent. No punishment, no calling parents in, no consequences. Better to stay chummy with parents and act like everything is fine so their donations to Monarch Main Event keep rolling in. By 7th-8th grade you will see hardly any respectful, well-adjusted, articulate, smart, strong Catholic character kids that this school pretends to build up. It took us years and $100k+ to realize this, please protect your children and find a better environment for them.

This school needs new administration. their upper grade students are unhappy and spoiled brats. I have come to find out that many kids come out of this school with social emotional needs much higher than most schools in the area. As far as the younger grades go our experience went well through Preschool/TK/K, but curriculum and admin showed their true colors by the 2nd grade. I witnessed heavy religious pushing and shaming when religion was questioned. Teachers argue with their students rather than guide them. Many other schools in the area with stronger emotional and social support, do your research. my child has thrived in her education since leaving this school in the 2nd grade and going to the local public school. stopped going to this church as well.

My son has been at St. Eds for two years of preschool and one year of Kindergarten. The teachers are simply amazing! You can tell the administration invests in teacher training and progressive curriculum.

Charter is in everything they do. Children receive recognition and rewards based on character traits. They rolled out a new ROAR program this year and it has helped keep my son on track. He understands what is expected of him as a student and friend.

I cannot recommend St. Eds to parents enough. My son has really blossomed during his 3 years with the school. I have appreciated the enrichment programs they have (Spanish, music, art, PE, etc.). They also have great facilities (library, playground, science lab, gym, etc.). The curriculum is progressive (latest math/ready programs, I-pads in classrooms, etc) and they have a lot of activities for families (art shows, movie nights, STEM nights, etc). There is a strong connection with the parish that has turned my son into a confident student and Catholic.

2 Stars. School has ZERO control over their students' behavior and EVERYONE knows it. All teachers, parents, they all talk about it. SAD. They even asked a teacher to go home for the day for scolding a bratty student who was rude to a substitute, so instead of the kid getting in trouble, the math teacher got sent home. RIDICULOUS. They have zero common sense.

First and second grade teams were terrific- beginning in late second grade, Reading and Writing Workshop became the sole focus of ELA and teachers read books aloud to students which had objectionable content for their age and for what would be expected at a Catholic school.

On the surface these character qualities appear to be taught- but when the administration doesnt espouse them its hard to believe that they matter much. Students are not being cared for correctly when it comes to character development when they are not being taught traditional values through reading classic literature. Instead they are being exposed to secular values in Postmodern literature- not what you would expect in Catholic elementary school.

Not in our situation- the read aloud books beginning in second grade negatively affected our child and made it all the harder to teach him to read. On the surface it seemed like we had support for his needs but in reality that was not the case.

Homework actually helps parents to know what is being taught to their children. We had no homework or tests in English Language Arts the entire third grade year - no Spelling, Reading, vocabulary or grammar work came home so we had no way of monitoring what our child was learning.

Our experience of first and second grade was mostly positive- from late second grade on we havent believed that our son was taught correctly in the areas of spelling, reading, vocabulary and grammar. Parents considering this school need to understand that this is not the traditional Catholic education they once received. The foundational skills for literacy were lacking during our time there- be prepared to supplement learning and to read classic literature to your children since this will not occur.

Teachers are all credentialed and many have a Master degree. The teachers are dedicated to Catholic education and their subject specialties. Teachers are quick to respond to emails and are available before and after school to meet with students.

I love the Upper School (middle school) community of students, parents, and teachers. The curriculum is very rigorous with very dedicated teachers. The Parish School has many opportunities for older students to get involved with a variety of sports, academic clubs, and service opportunities. There is a big emphasis on Catholic values, which can be seen in all the classes regardless of the subject. I love how involved that parent base is, the school is truly loved and supported allowing for awesome programs and opportunities.

This is our first year at the Parish School and I am SO impressed with everything. The preschool is so much fun with so many opportunities for developmental learning and play. The teachers are very sweet, the director is actively involved and the campus is secured and safe. I love the faith-based learning that is present all over campus and how the parish and school work so well together. This is truly a Catholic community and we feel blessed to be part of it. Excellent year so far. We had some initial challenges with the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up but things have worked out now. Back to School Night was informative and each teacher had a clearly prepared, detailed syllabus. My son enjoys switching classes and looks forward to the outdoor education program that is planned for spring. Lots of hands-on labs planned for STEM, the students get art, music, PE, Maker's space, and Spanish as part of their regular schedule which provides a breadth of curriculum for students. The administration seems approachable and is visible on campus. Parents are welcome to volunteer in classrooms and at school events.

The school has taken on a "purposeful homework" approach. I love this! My kids are not sent home with mindless worksheets. They have Simple Solutions which is a math review and they are expected to read. At home my children are enjoying being creative and writing their own stories.

We are so excited that the St. Edward Academic Decathlon Team has won first place at the State Decathlon. Congratulations to the students, the parents, and teachers who coached. The school's commitment to academic excellence is evident. We also enjoyed participating in the Kids Around the World meal packing effort. The newly named Parish School is reinventing itself with more project-based learning, less worksheets and over- priced hot lunch. The teachers are enthusiastic and genuinely care for kids. The sense of community is strong and highly involved in the Parish. They have quality Specials such as Spanish, Music, PE, Library and Computer Lab. All grade levels participate in field trips that make learning come alive. They send out weekly school communication and grade level teachers send out weekly newsletters allowing families to be informed of the upcoming curriculum. Overall more fluff than you get in a public school. My only complaint is the completely ridiculous merit card system for managing student behavior. Teachers impose infractions on children as young as 7 years old for being tardy to school, not completing a reading log, talking in line the list goes on. At the end of the month if the child was 100% perfect they get to wear free dress. Children who mess up once are required to wear their school uniform, so the rest of the school can see they messed up. How many years ago did children wear dunce caps? There is no school wide positive behavior system to encourage and promote responsible behavior. They have a spot on the merit card for commendations, but Ive never heard of a child getting one. Its a military system for children and it is demoralizing. Children should be motivated by trying to do the right thing, not completely fearful of getting detention. Apparently, the administrator who came up with the system has never actually been a classroom teacher. I have good kids who for the most part earn their free dress, but they are completely afraid to make a mistake and get an infraction. I feel bad for the kids who are a little wiggly or run into bad traffic on the way to school. No free dress for you, because you are not 100% perfect. Hopefully the Administration will recognize the flaws in the system and make some positive changes!

St. Edward has come a long way! We have 1 child who started in the Preschool and I was a little skeptical. She's now in Kindergarten and is learning a tremendous amount, building great relationships, and fostering a confident persona. The new principal, Dr. Muzzy, is always around, very transparent, attends all functions, and the teachers all seem happy and excited to be at work. The families all have a friendly demeanor and with the staff changes, I think the school excelled by leaps and bounds. I feel a real sense of community and I feel like the parents are there to help with other parents or with the school. There are after school activities, childcare, and various events in which to take part. Our daughter has a thirst for knowledge, for reading, for learning and I think that has not only to do with us, but with what she's exposed to at school. Just to note, I also think the student to teacher ration listed on this site is misleading. All classes have a full time teacher and a full time aide, so it lowers the student to teacher ratios. Additionally, many classes have parents who come in regularly to assist and that furthers the drop in the ratios.

St Edward is fantastic. I have nothing but great things to say. I have watched my son blossom at this school socially and intellectually since he came in 6th grade. The teachers are ALL accredited many with multiple degrees. The Math and Science programs are exceptional. The English, Language Arts and Vocabulary programs are very challenging and my son has now turned into a fantastic writer. Best choice I ever made, wish I had come to St. Edward earlier. New principal has energy and excitement, the teachers are EAGER to help at lunch or before and after school. I receive emails and postcards from the teachers for great grades and have been contacted when he has needed a little help. A true partnership.

We couldn't be more thrilled with this school. Our children first attended the preschool and are now in Kindergarten. Dr. Muzzy and all of the faculty and administration are incredibly dedicated and committed to the student body. We are extremely impressed with how our children have blossomed academically and instilled a love for learning and religion. We have been at St Edwards going on our 4th year. our daughter has excelled in the spiritual and loving environment. With three kids we have enrolled in both private and public schools over the years and hands down this has been the most amazingly positive and academically successful experience for our youngest daughter. If you are considering St. Ed's I would check it out and compare the class size and academics to any other school in the area. We feel privileged to belong to this school and church community.

We have been at St. Edward's school for over 12 years with multiple children and have had nothing but a positive, enriching experience! We have been involved with fundraising, the academic decathlon, helping in the classroom, so many different aspects of the school, the teachers and the administration. We can't say enough wonderful words about the teachers, their passion for teaching in a catholic school, and for their love of each and every student. We have been helped when needed, listened to when needed and our children always recognized for the characteristics and traits so valued at school and at home. No school is perfect, but this school comes close. I read the few bad comments in this site, and a parent, active volunteer, and church parishioner, and the comments are honestly wrong. Bullying for GREAT grades does NOT happen. They have a middle school awards ceremony every trimester and 1/2 the student body is awarded a certificate for 3.5 or higher. Then the rest of students or a large majority of the rest have B averages (3.0). We have a new Director of Student Affairs and a new principal that track grades. Bad grades are spotted promptly. Kids are not misbehaving and they are not allowed to get away with much. If a teacher doesn't see bad behavior it can be discussed with a teacher and the director will discuss it with the student. Kids that need help can get it with Student Services. This school does not leave kids behind and they are not numbers. What one person says can not out weigh what is actually happening at St. Edwards. It is a school that has placed a premium on our catholic values, education and community. Please do your own research, tour the campus take part in the student shadow program and make your own educated decision. Respectfully, a parent.

The first time we visited St Edwards Parish School as a prospective school for our children, we attended an all school Mass. When we saw students standing together in prayer and offering fellow classmates the sign of peace we knew this was the school environment we wanted our kids to grow in both academically and spiritually! It was the best decision we ever made! Our children have a solid foundation, are motivated to be successful academically, have a sense of community, and a love for God. For this, we are forever grateful for the staff, faculty, administration, and priests of St Edward the Confessor School.

Terrible. Awful. Sad. No systems in place to handle bullying (which is rampant, as many others have said). Slacking and bad behavior is encouraged (in middle school especially). Good grades and intelligence is considered "nerdy" and very uncool. We moved here from the east coast and were shocked at this viewpoint. In the east, smart, intellectual kids are valued. This is not the case at St. Edward the Confessor Parish School.

There are only three reasons to send your child to St. Edwards- location, location, location. My children, after spending three miserable years at the school, no longer want to be Catholic. This is unfortunate since both my wife and I are strong Catholics, but we do understand how they feel. The principal and assistant principal are unkind, unjust, not compassionate, not educators. We have moved on to a new private school and boy it's been a world of difference. Both of my children are now flourishing and have regained their confidence. The struggle is that my wife and I are still having difficulty getting them to return to the Catholic church.

Have 2 children here, they are doing well and like the school. I agree with the reviewer about the carpool, what? I've never seen something so bad, the teachers try hard and are organized but you can tell they hate it. A lady who seems to be in charge tells grandparents and others picking up they CANNOT move until green flag but then an employee walks by with their own child, she lets them walk while others sit and wait. Everyone complains (even teachers) about this ineffective system. Normal carpool would be in and out and much more efficient, this doesn't work, especially if you have other schools, activities and appointments to attend to. Forget parking, you also get stopped! They should learn from St. Anne down the street, very easy flowing, organized, in and out carpool! Our little ones sit on the hot, dirty pavement waiting for older siblings or their rides, get overheated and are in the sun. I wish I knew this before we enrolled, it has really turned into a huge headache in our lives. Teachers are mostly great, some assistants in K do yell at the kids--not positive reinforcement but overall good.

St. Edward is a great Catholic School! I was compelled to write this review because of how much I value the education my child has received from preschool through elementary school. As a parent who is actively involved in her child's academic affairs, I spend a lot of time on campus as a volunteer and therefore, frequently interact with faculty and staff. I was upset to read such an unfair depiction of St. Edward's vice principal. Describing her as "unfriendly" is such a gross misrepresentation! She is very kind and approachable! However, she does provide structure and authority that is necessary to keep our children safe and enable them to succeed academically and personally. It deeply saddens me that anyone would view her implementation of structure and authority as "unfriendly". Furthermore, she gives tirelessly of herself and is the polar opposite of self-serving. Our vice principal is a stellar example of how to balance authority and responsibility in an atmosphere of respect and community that merges the fundamentals of Catholicism with the requirements of an academic curriculum. I hope that anyone looking for a wonderful Catholic education would consider St. Edward.

The school is wonderful. It is a Parish school appropriately aligned with the parish community. The academic rigor is appropriate and significant. The teachers are caring and all are credentialed. Principal is retiring but has made wonderful positive advances in the academics of the school. The Vice Principal is a blessing. She is caring and well versed in educational standards as well as administrative duties. Her concern for the individual child, their educational needs along with appropriate development is amazing. She is willing to work with all families and parents seeking help. I highly recommend the school the environment, value, and spirituality make St. Edwards' a wonderful choice for your child.

St.Edward is a great school academic wise. Though the vise principal is not friendly at all, and has know compassion about anything around her other than herself. She has repeatadly blew off any conflict and used her authority in non but negative ways. I love this schools academic program but that is the only reason my child attends.

Please do not send your children here. A year after pulling my children out, I still have horrible feelings of guilt and regret for not pulling them out sooner. Middle School was a terrible experience, as others have said the hand-picked vice principal is cold, unfeeling, mean. My son had a bullying issue and her response was "well, you say this happened but (the bully) and all his friends say differently." Seriously? The bully and all his friends? Teacher morale appears very low; they say everyone is very glad the principal is retiring at the end of the school year but pray that the vice principal goes with her.

We are a new family starting this Fall and will update this review as it goes. So far, everything is okay but they have no one contacting new families, we have to ask and ask questions, no one has reached out to give us a little guidance on how things work, and to top it off their website is way, way outdated! They have things and lists from 2010 with no contact info. Their volunteer email doesn't work, so you can't ask anyone anything! Very frustrating getting a hold of them. Then when we call the office to ask, they sound snobby and say: "it's on the website" or "did you not get a packet?", obviously we are calling to ask for a REASON. Horrible receptionist and administration so far. We'll see how that goes through the school year. Hope teachers are better organized than this. Needs a desperate website makeover, we are not in the dark ages!!!! I am sure a parent has a company that does websites somewhere!

This is the BEST Catholic /Elementary school in South Orange County! The administration is caring and approachable. The staff is great! I have been involved with this school for over 10 years and have seen it go through many changes. Most of the parents here are great too! The true test are the children. They are happy and their test scores are high! Love, Love, Love it!

Sadly, our school has gone way down hill with the current principal and her handpicked vice principal. Neither seem to be able to deal with common disciplinary issues. I agree with the earlier review, the families are great and are what makes the school what it is. The principal likes to have boards and commitees, but none have any authority, she does what she wants despite parent complaints. Once you are in though it is hard to pull your child out out because of established friendships and connections with other families. The principal relies on that heavily.

Please don't send your child here. Our daughter's last year before graduating was miserable. Their policies changed in the final year here to make all the rules draconian. We had to pay $75 for detentions after 6 late violations. We ended up paying over $300 for detentions in the last part of the year due to their overzealous enforcement. Add in teacher's and Vice principals who called out my daughter over the megaphone in the parking lot in front of the whole car line up and you have a nightmare of a 8th grade year. My daughter is a sweet free spriit and thankfully they didn't break her heart. Shame on this school and the principal. This is a Christian environment?? I don't think so.

Our last child is graduating and we are relieved to be leaving the school. The families and community are wonderful, but the current administration has ruined the character of this once wonderful parish school. While the elementary school was very nice with strong, nurturing teachers, the middle school has become unbearable over the last 4 years with the current principal. Math scores have droped considerably and a large percentage of students have outside tutoring at the local math franchise. We gave up any hope of our child learning math from the teacher half way through 7th grade. My husband taught math each night. The teacher this year is better, but she can't make up for two bad years of teaching. This year, one 8th grade teacher has been cruel and vindictive to students. The principal deflects and makes excuses. The principal is also incapable of handling discipline issues appropriately which lead to major issues this year. The good teachers justifiably have low morale. Some of her policies have been very unpopular with the parents including a staggered dismisal. We seriously considered leaving, but the families have a strong bond after being together for years.

Drop off is a hassle with large lines of cars, excessive class sizes, and some very unfriendly office staff. The school website is used for notifications rather that simple email contact. The preschool was great with much care and attention and the teachers in kindergarten were good as well. However, there are no entrance requirements for the kids and if you are expecting them to be different from public school, don't. If you can write the check, you're in. Expect constant requests for $

Very poor communication between administration and parents! Large classroom sizes so your child has a good chance of getting lost unless they are outspoken and not at all shy.

School leadership needs to be changed...parents are treated like they are lucky to be there even though they are paying tuition. Not the happy place it once was.
