I am a current student, and the school is alright but could be better. The environment is alright, but favoritism with teachers is an issue here. The teachers have a favoritism problem, and it shows. Unfortunately this school does have more "popular" kids, and the teachers tend favor them, as well as athletic kids. Some teachers there are great, like the dean and some other teachers, but most have favoritism issues. Academics aren't bad, but obviously have less choices then some bigger schools. Sports are pretty nice here, and the coaches are willing to give you a hand. To be honest, this school is one of the better ones I've been to, but sometimes the teachers are the issue.

Great, bright, and engaging teachers that are held back by poor leadership. Limited academic opportunities and lack of knowledgable safety resources for students. The administration has no integrity and uses manipulative tactics to mask problems. Lack of compassion for children in need of support. Leadership is ill-mannered and disrespectful.

LMSHS has been actively building back their school community with new leadership and support staff. There has certainly been some much needed change that has thankfully happened. The school feels more inclusive, more caring and mindful of how our children are doing, especially with the recent pandemic and online learning. My students are happy going to their community school and welcome friends that commute in. Ive found that teachers and staff have been very responsive with concerns brought up regarding academics and extra support and always try to connect with my kids one-on-one should more attention be needed. The Lyons Booster Club is a wonderful caring group of parents that raise over $80K each year to be shared among all the activities and clubs, not just the athletes. There are just enough sports programs for the budding athlete and everyone is encouraged to participate. If Lyons doesnt have it, then other schools in the district do and you can play there. Tryouts are rare and if you want to play/run/be active, then you get to! Our community has a proud history as all communities do and many longtime Lyons residents like to recall the good old days, because well they were! Like every town and city, we are evolving and there is growth and change happening. Being someone who has lived here long enough to not be considered new anymore Ive welcomed the new and appreciate the old and love the generosity of our community. Lyons will always be a sweet small town that has a huge heart. Our schools reflect that as well.

My child attended LMSH from 6th grade through 8th grade. During that time she was bullied so severely that it has caused severe trauma. The bullying was psychological/emotional not physical, therefore we were told there isn't much that can be done or proven. The bullying started with 1 or 2 girls and by the end of 8th grade the group grew to a significant amount of boys and girls. The biggest problem, we weren't from Lyons. We were not a part of the Lyons multigenerational families, nor were we part of the new influx of wealth. We also didn't live in Lyons, which made us outsiders. We also were not a part of the "running crowd", also a large factor. There is massive favoritism among the school and the town. The school is becoming elitist. If you are an exceptional student that tests well, you get what you need and you are paraded as a shining example for LMSHS. If you have blatant learning disabilities, you are able to get what you need from the school. However, if you are a bright student but have a LD that needs to be addressed, good luck getting anyone to listen to you. Your child will fall through the cracks and will not get what they need. The teachers ABSOLUTELY play favorites. If your child requires anything extra, it becomes an irritation. There were multiple experiences with teachers where very inappropriate comments were made to my daughter and us . When asking for guidance or help to ascertain what the problem was with our child in their class and why she wasn't doing well, the response was "she just don't want it badly enough" or "your daughter is very pretty and she is good at getting boys to do her work for her" and lastly, " she is just to quiet and can't advocate for herself. I'm not sure what you want me to do". Or my favorite is when the adult "hall/lunch monitor" decides to humiliate my child in front of the entire cafeteria until she sobs, all based on a comment made by a fellow student who was angry at my daughter for not sitting next to her at lunch. No apology was made to my daughter by this school employee. Not even when it was addressed by me with the principal. There's a strange vibe at this school. You are either part of the elite or the multigenerational Lyons families. Neither one likes each other, both think each group is destroying Lyons, but somehow come together and coexist creating their own adult cliques which transfer up through the school. So, in the end, LMSHS is "small but NOT mighty".

School and office seem to be very chaotic. Principal is rarely available for staff, parents, or students.

Much improvement needed in order to realize its full potential in graduating college, workforce, and adult life ready students. Bigger focus on social emotional learning, mental health, and life skills is a must.

Homework is non existent for students who are in school to do the work. This does not prepare them for real life.

There are really good and really bad teachers at Lyons. It's difficult to have across the board effectiveness with such inconsistency.

My child is bullied constantly because of her beliefs. But because the bullying is not physical there is no problem. My child is is of mixed race but because she looks white we are religious conservative racists

With the loss of the Lyons long standing principal the school is going down hill with its co principals begging for the full time permanent position

I already commented. The M\Sr High School in Lyons, Colorado, is one of the best. High grades, most go to college, small overturn, many students transfer to go here. We are proud of our School in Lyons, Colorado.

There's a new vice principal this year who really seems to care about the kids and the parents. Since most middle school kids and parents deal with the vice principle, this is a very important person at school. There are good and bad things about small school but having a reasonable person to go to is a real plus.
