Cottonwood is an outstanding school. The staff is very professional, and cares about each and every students academic and social emotional progress. The Dual Language Program is one of the premier features at Cottonwood, and offers students the opportunity to learn Spanish as a second language. I would highly recommend Cottonwood Plains to anyone considering attending.

Terrible and chaotic. Very, very dirty. A lot of time wasted, little knowledge gained. Bullying, weak leadership, stressed out teachers and mean and not very bright kids. Lots of them. .

All of my experiences at this school have been above my expectations. I have witnessed the kindness shown to students by faculty and staff. The principal knows his students and can call most by name. I find this to be a very caring atmosphere for learning and growth!

My child is a kindergartener in the Dual Language Immersion program at Cottonwood, and he is excelling academically and socially because of the wonderful school community! The teachers and leadership have made him and us feel welcomed, supported, and included.

I’ve had four children attend this school and each of the teachers has been wonderful! We’ve lived in three different states and my kids’ favorite teachers of all time have all come from this school! They truly care about the kids and try to help them academically, socially and emotionally. I cannot say enough good things about the teachers at Cottonwood!

My kids are always repeating phrases and things they’ve been taught at this school with the anti-bullying and No Place For Hate campaigns. They are taught that “everyone belongs” and to look for ways to show kindness and compassion to the students around them.

The principal and teachers in leadership positions here are wonderful! They are friendly to me as a parent and very kind and encouraging to the kids. I’ve only seen positive interactions with my kids and other kids over the past 5 years we’ve lived here.

My four kids have ranged from needing extra help to needing gifted/talented resources. All of the experiences across the board have been positive! The teachers all encourage kids to do their best and help them celebrate their individual abilities.

The GT teacher at this school is AMAZING! She not only helps the kids with accelerated learning, but she also helps them sort through emotional difficulties that often come with gifted students. I find myself using phrases she’s taught my kids with myself! I honestly can’t say enough positive things about this school!

My kids have participated in various programs and activities all geared towards teaching that cottonwood is No Place For Hate. The kids are taught how to respond to bullying and what to do if something occurs. They are also taught to be kind, respectful and inclusive. They even taught the kids a song and dance about not bullying and recorded it with a local musician.

Seeing the amount of work my kids do during the day, I’m very supportive and appreciative of the amount of homework given during the week. And the teachers always encourage reading at home and doing extra math online to supplement the amount of homework given if parents want to push their kids even more.

I am shocked that anyone would see an issue with this school. This elementary school has far been the best in the district. My student attended another school in the district and I switched her to this school. The staff is amazing. They care and provide the utmost support for students in need, and those that are more advanced learners. I have seen first hand staff providing clothes, food, and gifts for Thanksgiving and Christmas to students in need. My daughter learned more here than at her other school where as she caught up to her grade level in a matter of months after being here. Unfortunately many parents do not see behind the scene on a daily basis what devoted people are in this building. We are at a time in the country that class sizes are large through no fault to the schools. If you want a smaller class size then support the funding needed to provide more support in the classroom. The teacher's work hard to provide for our students even with larger class sizes. If you want to see what goes on in your child's classroom I urge you to volunteer and witness the great happenings in your child's classroom. If you cannot, ask questions from your child and their teacher. I will continue to recommend this school even after my student is no longer here.

Homework has never been too much or too little. Teachers have always been willing to send home extra if your student need some extra learning at home or over the weekend, or long breaks even. As with any school, homework should be anticipated.

This school has a strong ILC team, a counselor, and a school psychologist. They go above and beyond to make sure my student is supported in her education. They include everybody no matter who they are. The principle and office staff are also on hand to assist with any student that is struggling in their day. They recognize the uniqueness in children which I commend.

The have a strong bullying support team. As well as no place for hate. If your child is struggling with another student you may want to ask if they have used their STOP strategy. Unfortunately there is always going to be students that do not get along, or feel picked on. If you find your student in this situation maybe discuss some different ideas to help your child deal appropriately.

They have a great program about bullying and how to stop it. I have walked in on classes where teachers are roleplaying different instances of how to get bullying to stop or what they should do if it won't. I feel the leadership and the effort here is very high.

I have loved our experience at this school. I walk in and I feel welcomed. The teachers that I have interacted with have all done great things with my children. I feel the staff are on top of safety procedures and doing the best to give all students the best education they can have. I have truly been impressed with how some of the class sizes have been big, but the teachers have such a great handle on it. This school has many things to offer and teachers/staff that care about the students. It's not just a job to them.

I love the teachers at this school!!! I have had four kids go here going through all the grades and I haven't found a teacher I haven't liked. Each of the teachers cares about the students and gives so much of their time to giving them the best. The teachers give of their time after hours to help students who need more. I think with any school you have struggles with teaching all spectrums, but I feel this school does a great job. I have seen the teachers go to places outside the school to help with the kids tutoring and being involved. I have seen the different teachers give extra attention to those who may need it as well as those who just may be having an off day. Our teachers give their all trying to give the best to each student.

Our daughter is in kindergarten and optional homework is sent home on a weekly basis. This is something that she loves, but does not feel pressure to complete it. It’s a great way to keep her engaged and offer an age-appropriate opportunity outside of the school hours to practice her learning. Teachers are happy to provide additional resources and opportunities as requested/needed.

This school has very strong leadership. This is evident in the culture at the school that can be felt from when you walk in the door to the interactions that are had with staff and students. I have had great experiences with Mr. Harting—it is obvious that he cares about the students and community and has a vision for continuous improvement. He has put great practices and processes in place to drive a positive culture in the school. Not only have my interactions been great, but my daughter also appreciates the care Mr. Harting takes to check-in with students and is always excited to tell me about her conversations with him.

The school take a proactive approach when it comes to bullying by making strong character such a central part of the school. In addition, I was impressed in our conferences when our daughters’ teachers talked about social-emotional health of students, including how self-advocacy plays a role. These efforts together create a strong foundation For bullying prevention. Bullying does still happen, but this is something staff take very seriously and I have been impressed with their leadership.

Our son is extremely curious and consistently scores two grades higher on the iReady tests than the grade he is in. This is despite the cacophony of his daily classroom. Nothing is being done to confront bullies and lazy, rude students who consistently interrupt the 'learning process'. This school is staffed by individuals who come to collect their government paychecks. They do nothing to actually help student with a brain who want to learn.

I know that not all grades give homework, for example it is not necessarily in the best interest to give homework to a kindergarten student when it is all ready a long day for them. Older grades depend on what gets done at school, getting parents to help get homework completed, and after school activities.

The teachers are held accountable by the Principal, the school District testing, and the Colorado board of education. Teachers who do not perform well will not be working at Cottonwood or any other school. Most teachers at our school have Masters degrees in their profession.

Cottonwood follows Positive attitude, Respect myself and others, Independent thinking, Do our best, and Everybody Belongs(PRIDE) This is practiced on a daily basis in all classrooms. Some students take a little longer to understand PRIDE and may need a little help with that, but the vast majority of students respect their teachers, classmates, and all other staff. Peacekeeping circles are used as well to help students with their feelings and how to deal with different situations. We have bullying prevention as well!

The Principal holds the teachers accountable for their actions and their work at school. Again, if the Principal is not doing their job appropriately as with teachers they would not be at Cottonwood or any other school. Our new safety program at school is effective when parents respect the rules of getting in the front door, ie showing their ID. Letting parents come in without an ID is not school policy....that is parents letting others “sneak” into the building without showing an ID.

Teachers spend most of their time dealing with classes in disarray. They also seem to have become apathetic towards teaching, and who wouldn't...when you have 15 kids out of 20 who lack basic manners and talk over each other and the teacher. Classes are a joke. We are moving our daughter to a different school at the beginning of next year.

The admin staff do mediocre job at best. Inconsistent rules on entering and leaving the school (front desk lady leaves the front door open so that the bus drivers can enter without being buzzed in to use the restrooms???) at the same time all others, including parents are required to show ID, etc. which is fine if only it were enforced (for every one who does show an ID two slip in as soon as the door is unlocked). Parking is terrible, school discipline terrible, overall - a joke.

One of my children recently graduated from Cottonwood (K-5th) and one is still there. They both have received an excellent education. I have been so pleased with the attention to their education as well as their character development. The teachers are kind, professional, and hard working. My dtr started in the pilot for Dual Language Immersion, currently in place here, and at Truscott. I love that at the end of 2nd grade my dtr was conversational in spanish. Regular school is not challenging for my kiddos, but the spanish component helps with that. Half of the day they are taught in English, and then they switch classes and the other half is taught only in spanish. It takes them out of their comfort zone which is a good thing! Some kids struggle initially and that is a good thing! The test scores comparison to those in the DLI program and those not are astounding. It's amazing how sparking the language center of the brain ignites all the other areas. I would highly recommend this school, and in particular the DLI program, currently offered K-3, and will continue to add classes as the kids move up.

The curriculum for kindergarten was very much beneath my daughter. She went to school at Cottonwood for a few weeks before I was able to volunteer. There were over 30 children in the half-day program and only one teacher and no aide. We parents were asked to volunteer in the classrooms. I was thrilled to do so, but this class size needs at least a teacher and a full-time teacher's aide. Her pre-school and pre-K classes (at another school) each had fewer students and two teachers, which I feel is more appropriate. The class was in disarray. The children were hitting and spitting. My two jobs as volunteer were to watch one child who as not assigned a seat because he wouldn't stay in it and to take a naughty child to the principal's office. Prior to this, my daughter had cried to me at home, saying she didn't want to go back to school. I asked her teacher about it, and was told, "lots of kids go through that." When I got there, I was read to cry too. The curriculum included recognizing letters which is definitely something my children could do at age 3. When I discussed this with the teacher, she explained they must teach to all children, some of which have never seen a book before. She assured me that my daughter would thrive at Cottonwood. I left to find another school with more appropriate curriculum and class sizes and better behavior control.

We have been pleasantly surprised by this school for our youngest special needs daughter. She started last year in kinder and have been blown away by the love and support we have felt at this school. She has a lot of challenging behaviors and quirks, but the teachers, principal, office, therapists, and everyone else always worked with us to help any situations that arose and even worked around some of her more difficult problems. She was in a mainstream classroom, and we always felt she was included just like her peers and even the kids in other grade levels would include her. We have older kids in PSD and there have not been any school of choice openings for her yet.....but we are so happy that our youngest got "stuck" at Cottonwood Plains!

The school is small enough that children aren't "lost in the mix." Children that excel are given opportunities to challenge themselves while children that struggle are worked with individually, as appropriate.

Our family has had a wonderful experience at Cottonwood. We transferred from another school, where I thought my second grader was excelling, only to find he was behind in some areas. Now, two years later, with the amazing support of his teachers and administration he is able to attend a middle school math program as a fourth grader. My daughter began kindergarten with minimal reading ability and has maintained a reading level two grades above as first grade year ends. For both of my children they have had amazing support from their teachers and appropriately challenged in the classroom and in gifted and talented classes, without giving either of them a ceiling for their learning potential. The "E" in PRIDE is for Everybody Belongs. Cottonwood Plains truly works together to be an encouraging & nurturing diverse community.

Cottonwood is an above average school in many ways. The principal is very helpful and kind. The test scores for most kids are above average. It is a nice building. There are a few drawbacks as well, though. One is a heavily loaded GT program which, similarly to other schools, has a lot of bright or hard working kids but not a lot of gifted kids. The previous GT coordinator was good. The current one does too much test prep for kids whose parents want that identification and retests on similar tests within short periods of time which has increased the problem with overloading the GT program and making it less likely to meet the needs of kids who aren't traditional high achievers.

I am wondering why as a parent, I must understand how the school policy works regarding such things as school attire for my daughter, but the teachers do not. It is not uncommon for me to see high heels and very short skirts on the teachers when my daughter cannot where color in her hair or wear a snow hat in the building. Just today I saw one of the younger grade teachers not only wearing a see through shirt, but you could see her stomach through the shirt. Not understanding the double standard here....

We have had such a positive experience at Cottonwood Plains. We have two children who attend and we could not be more pleased with how their academic needs have been met--both in the Gifted and Talented track and in their regular classes. The teachers have worked very hard to make sure my children are being pushed academically, but still balance having fun and using their creativity. I am especially pleased that they are expected to be responsible for their actions and they explain rules and expectations clearly. I really feel like the teachers enjoy their job and there is a very good parental support system in place.

I am so impressed by what I see every day. Teachers and parents working side-by-side with the best interest of students in mind. Students trying their best, and if success is not immediate, they persevere and demonstrate an "I can do anything" attitude. I would not want to work at any other school. I love this school! My children have been coming here for over 8 years and we love it. Old Principal, New Principal, teacher changes, all for the best. The grasss isn't always greener somewhere else although a change sometimes helps your attitude, find out what is important not what you thinks may save your ego. Stick with the school even if you have reservations about the programs, your child's education comes first and they are receiving an excellent one here. Other outside activities should be your last priority and you can go somewhere else if needed.

We have been to two other schools in the area and this one tops them all. The principal is a fantastic leader that has the heart of the students and teachers in mind when making decisions. The teachers are fantastic and the facilities are GREAT! We love the Panther PRIDE motto, it fosters GREAT respect for fellow students and family.

This school is committed not only to education, but challenging students to help others and show pride in all that they do. They have taught my child so much more than just academics and I am thoroughly impressed with the teaching staff and Principal. I would recommend Cottonwood to anyone!

We opted to send our children to CWP rather than our neighborhood school due to the fact that it was the nearest school with an all day kindergarten program at the time. 4 years later, what my children gained was so much more! CWP is an amazing school with a truly dedicated staff and a principal that is wholly involved with the school on many different levels. The enrollment of the school has increased despite the fact that Coyote Ridge and Ponderosa opened up over the past few years boasting new state of the art facilities, etc. ..this speaks volumes to how well CWP is run. The community and parents continue to spread the word about what a great learning environment CWP provides for its students. What a great principal it has! It's no wonder why the staff nominated him as principal of the year. We've moved overseas for a few years and miss the school terribly. The level of education my children received there far outweighs what they are getting here. We'll be glad when we return to what feels like a "family" focused school!
