I HATE this school. This school used to be a great lively place, but now it has fallen down the drain. It used to be exciting to go to this school, but now the administration has some of the worst rules I've ever seen. Now you have to wear stupid "IDs" for "safety", and they are really adamant about wearing them. But these pieces of plastic are useless and if you lose them you have to pay $5, to this school. They have made horrible changes that do not allow students to feel good at school. I would NEVER recommend this school.

My son went here. They are more interested in "furries" than they are in academic excellence. Judgemental staff, teachers more interested in watching movies that teaching. Disappointing to say the least.

After being there for over a decade, I saw the change in everything that they do and stand for. This school hides what they are teaching from parents, forcing agendas down kids and teenagers throats. If you happen to be against their agenda you will feel it. There is 0 support, they do not care about you or your kids. While some teacher might, the school as a whole could not care less about the heath and wellbeing of the students. This school prides theirselves on being inclusive and safe, while their whole system does the complete opposite. Kids will go to school normal and happy. After attending for years they will have anxiety, they will be shut up. Here they will learn that they need to change what they think in order to be accepted. They will learn here that what who they are is not enough and that who they are needs to change.
As a reminder to the reader.
You are enough and your children are enough the way that you are. You do not need to change yourself to make a difference or to be successful.
This school will force your kids into ideologies that enforce mental illness and they will not help with these issues in anyway shape or form.

I have never been more miserable in my life. The teachers dont know how to teach, they mock and bully students, and are just really stuck up. Not only that, but they are biased towards the popular kids. Its very rare to find good staff at this school. They could care less about bullying. Even if you bring it to their attention they do absolutely nothing. And there is a lot of bullying here. If you are different ex: not rich, popular, like certain things, or even have mental illness, then you are excluded, and mocked on the daily. It made it very difficult for me to be a school. Your kids grades WILL drop, they will most likely develop anxiety, and will be a total outcast. PRA has one of the most toxic environments Ive ever seen. Im moving schools, dont send your kid here ever!

Prospect Ridge Academy has some amazing core teachers!! The focus is definitely academics!
In elementary, theres a disconnect with the admin regarding reflections, when a child is not acting right in School. Discipline and any type of process for these are all over the board. Students are asked to fill out the reflection however some staff could care less if they collect them, or read with the child had to say. The teachers and admin will pick and choose if a reflection gets email to the entire staff or not. There is no real process that has to be followed for discipline in elementary.

Our two kids have thrived in their two years at PRA elementary and middle school. The teachers have been amazing and you can be as involved in the school community as you choose. There is almost too much communication with a separate email newsletter from each school every week and additional emails from teachers quite frequently. You can't please everybody, but I suspect many of the complainers are the parents who want the school to raise their children and blame the school for their children's shortcomings. I believe you would be hard pressed to find more passionate and caring teachers at another public school. PRA is a truly great option within Adams 12.

This school claims to be a college prep school and I could not agree more. Classes at my child's university have been a breeze for my child and I have to credit the rigorous curriculum and dedicated teachers and staff at PRA, particularly the English and History departments.

PRA had an outstanding reputation in the surrounding community when we enrolled our son, but we have been highly disappointed in our three years at the school.

There is a level of arrogance at the admin level that is simply unwarranted, communication is below average, we have yet to feel any sense of community within the school, my son's first grade teacher made would take up to 72 hours to respond to simple emails and in some cases never responded at all, they do little to nothing to encourage parent involvement, the Board of Directors is clueless and does not consider the opinions of the school community when making decisions, and to top it off there is no kitchen for hot lunch in the cafeteria.

Our son has several close friends at PRA, but we chose to transfer him out and will be sending him to another school next year.

I went to this school from 5th grade through 11th, and joined the community a year after it opened. During the years spent there, Im not going to lie: I have never struggled with my ability to care about myself so much. Many of my peers came from closed minded families, including the picture perfect looking ones. The emphasis placed on appearance (looking put together no matter what) trumped the emphasis placed on basic human decency. At least socially. The school administration itself has changed throughout the years in an attempt to respond to the students and parents, which I do want to give them credit for. Although they may not always know the immediate answer, this school does try to work with the community to do better. However I have noticed there seems to be a slight pick and choose philosophy on what issues they think should be dealt with. Now, they are leaning very heavily on tolerance, but before this was a focus many children would say derogatory and disrespectful things on a frequent basis. They still do, but in private more so.
I will say that the academic curriculum is generally unbiased and sets up students well. However, if you are someone struggling who needs extra help this still might not be the ideal environment for you. Two of my brothers wouldnt even consider this school due to their learning disabilities. The academic pressure is pretty intensive.
As for things pertaining to mental health, this school is lacking in a positive environment but trying very hard to not let students fail. Im not sure where the line is on how much the admin genuinely cares about the student health, but I know that appearance is a role in this also. They enjoy being able to say 100% of their students graduate and get accepted into a college, but they dont tell you how much they do to ensure that. And a lot of it is superficial.
All in all I wouldnt rate this as a 1, because I can see certain parts of the staff genuinely try and care. But i also wont give it a 5 because of the elitist environment and mental neglect.

I went to this school for 9 years from kindergarten to 8th. I never had one good teacher that really helped me, the principals were constantly on my case emailing my parents for the smallest of things I did wrong (a few times even for listening to music in class). the teachers have a way of making you teach yourself by giving you the work to do without proper instruction and ignoring your requests for help. your appearance matters a lot to the staff, they have even measured the space between skirts and your knees to make sure you weren't exceeding the 3 inch rule. the staff also made multiple comments on my makeup and style outside of school during online learning, to the point where I didn't even turn on my camera anymore (these comments weren't necessarily rude but they were unwelcome.) I had a problem one year with a student stealing from my locker, and after reporting him several times with evidence, I was still not allowed to move lockers nor was there disciplinary action taken. I'm extremely disappointed in the way this school is run and the way they treat the students. I would not recommend this school for anyone that needs extra assistance, those with learning disabilities, or those that generally don't do well in school.

This school has changed so much since our kids transferred there from our neighborhood elementary at PRA's inception. Early on, it was fantastic.
We wanted higher academic standards so that our kids would be challenged. We wanted greater emphasis on personal accountability and a learning environment that addressed disruptive student behavior. The original leaders delivered that.
Since that time 10 years ago, it has changed and now closely mirrors our neighborhood school we left.
In the elementary, PRA eliminated the leveled classes based on ability (no more advanced reading or math groups), because admin wanted to avoid kids suffering from low self-esteem if others were placed in a higher reading/math group. As a result, Kids gradually shift to the middle, since advanced students are taught the same thing as kids who are behind. However, those who struggle, get extra help to bring them to parity. This is an emphasis on EQUITY.
In the middle school, our kids felt increasing pressure to conform to the teachers' and most other students' liberal social and political ideology.
In high school, the environment is full blown left -- from the teachers, to the majority of students to the admin. I was astonished when in high school, the leaders scheduled an assembly where students were taught they had white privilege and needed to make amends. In another assembly, the school invited a group of LGBTQIA group from Boulder to speak to PRA students about their alternative lifestyle and why it should be celebrated. Parents were not informed of any of this.
It seems PRA's administration is growing top-heavy. It's all very disappointing.
Some teachers are great. For others, my kids found things just went better if they fell in line with the liberal bent of the teacher and other students.
The grade-level leaders are very helpful with communication. I think the school has a lot of good people, but the environment has changed dramatically from the time we arrived and is now very left-leaning. It is just like the traditional public schools, but further from our home without benefit of bus transportation and with fewer class choices. You might find it is perfect for your family. For us, it was a fail.

The question about whether you recommend the school is difficult to answer. It depends on what you are looking for and where your kids will be most successful. PRA is changing and growing a lot. It also seems to be trying to become elitist to attract wealthier families with disposable income and high profile jobs. That isn't a surprise since Broomfield is a wealthy suburb of Boulder, but people considering the school should keep that in mind. The problem we are dealing with right now is that since many other local schools have opened in the area, there is competition for students, prestige, high test scores and money. There are other charter schools, public schools and private schools that compete with us. There is a lot of talk about community and quoting people and students who say there is a strong sense of community. I know many families that don't feel like they are valued. To be fair, the board of directors and administration did make some difficult decisions about remote and in-person learning this year which showed some commitment to meeting diverse needs. The teachers have had to work under a lot of pressure and are committed. This is a college prep school. That is used to justify many decisions and policies. Sometimes it feels like decisions are more about image and being college prep is given as the reason. The school reports on many activities that seem to try to prove a strong sense of community. Many families have been there since it opened. That group is very tight. The families involved in athletics are very close. I have heard that it can be harder for older students who transfer to fit in, unless they already know families through their neighborhood, sports clubs, or church. There is a lot of talk about character and how successful that is at PRA. I don't know what the proof is, though. Many of the teachers are very highly educated and that is prestigious. If you are considering sending your kids here, look into how the teachers' effectiveness is proven to see if it works for your kids. I had trouble rating the Leadership's effectiveness since there is a lot of change going on. We're getting an Executive Director, which is a new position. The elementary and high school principals have been here since the beginning. The middle school principal is newer and making his mark. I have heard that the GT, 504 and IEP programs are just okay. PRA will be a great fit for some students but not for everyone.

It's part of our mission statement! The school and community strive to develop ethical, compassionate young adults, rather than just get kids to graduate. A certain number of volunteer hours are required to graduate, and in the HS, each year has specific lessons built around character development and ethics.

Like all schools, there are occasional instances of bullying and unkindness. But teachers and admin take it very seriously. Like I mentioned above, character development is a big part of PRA's education, and any instances of bullying or hate speech are addressed quickly and seriously.

As a college prep school, at least in the high school, it's important for students to know that the homework load can be significant. I'd say 1.5-3 hours a day on average.

This is the best group of people I've ever worked with. The teachers, admin, counselors, staff, and volunteers really care about these kids. No school is perfect, but I have seen so many people here go above and beyond to make personal connections with students and make a difference in their lives. Yes, it's rigorous, and it's a college prep school (and therefore not for everyone), but it's also an amazing education that caters to all types of learning. The passion of teachers and staff here has been truly moving to see. It's also been exciting, since we now have multiple graduated classes, to see so many students return from college, independent young adults, proud of their PRA education.

One of the consistent themes in the school is their emphasis on character. They have this really clever program within the schools where the upper classmen mentor the under classmen. For example, the 4th graders have a 1st grader "buddy" who they will show around and answer questions. There's a second grade/fifth grade connection, etc. It's really been great!

Most of our experience is with the elementary school principal and she is fantastic! I'm pretty sure she works 26 hours per day. I caught a glimpse of her multi-colored calendar one time and I assure you, it's true. Yet somehow she is at most of the school events and always willing to talk to the individual parents.

We absolutely LOVE this school! They have a dress code which eliminates a lot of the social class issues and potential stigma from clothing. They have a buddy/mentor system which helps the lower grades get to know some of the upper classmen and understand what it's like to be in those grades. Similarly, the middle schoolers and high schoolers help run the school events (including elementary school events and school-wide events). It's really amazing to go to these school events and see so many students there helping. Lastly, the school is very good at preparing the students for college. As of the the date of this review (2019-2020 school year), they have a 100% college acceptance rate.

You won't go wrong choosing this school.

For the elementary school to middle school classes, the homework amount is quite effective. It slowly transitions from little to no homework at the lowest grades to a decent amount each night in middle school.

This is one of the best selling points of this entire school. The teachers are just amazing! We have now experienced 7 different teachers and they have all been so excellent! Even some of the teachers who are new seem to have a great knack for it and a true zeal for their students.

Some of the teachers are kind, but most of them are arrogant and unhelpful in the high school. My child, who is an above average student, struggles in some regards and has an IEP. Teachers are rude to her and get exasperated when she asks for help. One of the teachers once suggested that, "since this is a college prep school, your daughter should be more ready to learn if she wants to stay here". Isn't this illegal?

The teachers are hit and miss with struggling kids. The students have a good advocate in their special education teacher, but some teachers and counselors often ask, "are you sure this is the right school for you" to kids who struggle. Apparently, they have high test scores because they pressure kids with learning differences to leave so as not to bring their results down. This area has improved over the past couple of years, however.

This school has plenty of first world problems around vaping, drugs, and online bullying in the high school, but as a small school, they are able to catch problems soon enough before they become major issues. If you have a troubled student, you may want to give the high school a shot.

This school had a lot of potential with it's mission and vision and small setting, and it proved to be a good experience for my daughter in middle school. Unfortunately, the high school has become a full-fledged, leftist/progressive indoctrination center. It's worse than any big school in this regard, because kids can't escape the "hate Western Civilization" message imbedded in every classroom. This school is "college prep" all right, but only in the sense that your students will hate all traditions and norms of the West and become full-fledged, card-carrying Progressives. The middle school teachers are caring and rigorous. The high school teachers are a hit or miss. Most of them are so political that they sacrifice educational experience for indoctrination. The teachers are also generally rude and arrogant. If you are struggling or happen not to be a socialist in the high school, you won't get the time of day from the staff.

PRA is a college prep math and science focused school. There are many accomplished, driven students who are excelling academically. However, if you have an average or better than average student who is willing to work hard, they can succeed and learn by doing the work, engaging in the classroom and asking for help when needed. My children have been successful while not being the top of the class kind of students.

Im sure there are parents and students who will say the school didnt do enough for them, but often in those situations there were students who were a part of the problem or who did not take responsibility for their actions. The school holds the students to high moral and ethical standards if you cant support that or your student doesnt want to be held accountable for their behavior, this will not be a good fit for you.

A school can only do so much in this regard, as these character traits really have to be taught at home, but I strongly believe that PRA does a great job of trying to instill these character traits in their students. There are monthly character trait assemblies at the Elementary level and service hours are required for all Secondary students. PRA is great at trying to help students look outward, but this also needs to be taught/reinforced in the home.

I feel as though my children have a fair amount of homework. Each Secondary grade has a study hall built into their schedules, so if the students come home with homework, it's kind of on them. I feel as though the school does a good job at trying to teach time management skills from Kindergarten on.

Our family has been at PRA since they opened their doors and I feel as though these teachers would do anything for their students, even when other parents berate and humiliate them. I love, love, love PRA! One of my children just graduated as part of their first graduating class and got into a wonderful university. We were just talking last night and they were telling me how the classes they had at PRA more than prepared them for university courses. The college prep at PRA works!

I also love how supportive the staff are of the students. They work so very hard - harder than most people will ever know, sacrificing time with their own families in order to support their students. The PRA staff is amazing!!

Trips out of the country for world language immersion, training in digital arts, top notch science classes with well-qualified staff and great lab facilities, and athletic opportunities for many levels. My son who was an excellent student, good person, athlete; had his future ruined and damaged by this school and the administrators were morally and ethically unfair. The only conclusion we can come to is those with the most money to support this school actually get the support their kids needs in the first place. The administrators are biased towards certain families and allow bullying to go on with no consquences.

They make terrible decisions, probably because they are a new school. Like setting up an overnight camp-out for 50+ seniors with a handfull of chaperones that went to bed at 10 pm! When they found out alcohol was involved only 1 kid got suspended when a dozen or more brought the alcohol. They make very poor decisions and then blame their poor decisions on a few good kids. Thye do not treat kids and families fairly and objectively.

My son was bullied the last 6 months of his senior year and then the same group of kids started bullying his little sister. Despite all of our attempts to get administrators to do something, they would not. I guess the parents of the kid who started all of the bullying gave the school more money than we did. They truly let us down. They let it go on for 6 months ruining my sons senior year and did nothing.

Horrible!! If you want your child to get into a good college, do not send them to this high school. My 4.0 GPA son started getting accused and bullied by a popular girl in the school and all of her friends. The school took sides, treated us completely unfairly and then refused to help him get into a University. He decided to take a gap year due to his horrible senior year and then they refused to help us, send information to universities that only can be sent from a high school counselor. They completely wrote us off since he had already graduated and they it was no longer their responsibility.
He was never in trouble before the bullying but instead of taking a neutral stance they retracted his letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors and refused to help him. I am still amazed that administrators could ruin a kids future over nothing. My daughter started to get bullied by the same kids and we couldn't pull her out of this school fast enough.
Furthermore, since they are a brand new high school we were behind the ball in the first place applying to colleges since they didn't know the process of getting kids into college and how to do their jobs. It was the blind leading the blind and one of the worst experiences in my life!!

Very poor - switched to PRA this year and wish we hadn't. Not impressed with administration who say they will do things and don't carry out on what they say. The culture is very concerning - one of entitlement and bullying.

It claims to be college prep, and while it may as well "qualify" it never allowed students to explore subjects or classes outside of the school that the school itself did not offer. Dual enrollment is a huge part for some people who wish to reach out to different or more of their favorite subjects.
I regret going here, however some of teachers are amazing, and made some of it worthwhile.

No real accidemic support for sutudents with any type of disabilities. Their support is a joke. IEP accommodations are not followed and teachers make the kids feel bad for asking for them.

Terrible! Not a school for kids with any type of learning disabilities. If your child has an IEP or 504, they will let you attend, but eventually you will be illegally counseled out. They teach TO the standardized tests and if your child could possibly bring down their test scores, then you are told this school may not be the best fit. Ask about their disenrollemt records. A huge group of students should not be leaving at semester during Freshman year.

This school is horrendous. The HS Principal and Asst Principal have no idea how to run a school. The assistant principal thrives on getting kids in trouble for petty things. The head principal is one of the worst people I have ever met. He is a bully and everyone at that school, parents, teachers, students and others are afraid of him because he uses his authority the wrong way. He gets rid of staff who are the best attribute of the school. He was never a principal prior to this gig and the board eats out of his hands, so no matter what is going on, he will eventually get his way. I feel beyond terrible for everyone involved in this school. If I were you I would run away as fast as you can and if you are currently at PRA, I would look for other options. They are setting you up for failure, not to mention the school is led for one of the worst people I have ever met.

My daughter was diagnosed with anxiety and depression as a 6th Grader and had to spend a lot of time away from the classroom for her help. While all teachers and some leadership were very supportive, the head principle did nothing but subtly threaten expulsion and continuously brought up the absenteeism and kept asking what we were going to do about it. We were more than willing to work with the school in any way possible, constantly keeping in touch with teachers and other staff. My wife even regularly volunteered there of the past several years and had a great repore with seemingly everybody. Bottom line with the head principle is that if your child can't keep up or is having any sort of issue, whatever the circumstances, leave. Rules are rules and he is incapable of dealing with anything else. This after 6 years of my daughter being a completely attentive and good student there.

Experience was good up until the last year. Most of the teachers here are wonderful, just head principle is an issue, and doesn't get learning differences or any mental health issues in students. We have many wonderful family friends at PRA, but there is also a bit of "charter school = good mentality" which kind of falls short of encouraging individualism and creativity that you see at more of a G&T type setting.

The elementary principal & assistant principal along with middle school assistant principal work hard to provide a supportive learning environment (and are successful at their job). The secondary principal is a negative influence and has no ability to connect with students and provide a supportive learning environment.

Our child has attended PRA since it opened (over 6 years). Overall, we've had a positive experience with dedicated teachers & supportive families. We are now considering moving our child to another school due to poor, ineffective leadership at the secondary principal level. This lack of leadership is the reason for a 3 star rating. I would rate secondary principal leadership at 1 star and the remainder of the school at 4-5 stars. Unfortunately the leadership is creating an ineffective environment for teachers/students that is preventing this school from being a successful high school like Peak to Peak or Stargate. PRA enrollment is not full at the high school level (unlike Stargate who started a high school after PRA). Many families are choosing to leave after middle school. Unfortunately PRA has chosen to increase middle school class size in order to compensate for their lower than expected enrollment at the high school level.

At the high school level math in 9 th grade. They needed to watch a you tube video that had several mistakes and do their homework. Kids were teaching themselves how to do the math. Wonder why so many 9 th graders ended up at Legacy for summer school.

This school has done amazing things for my student. 1st, she has always struggled in school and felt very voiceless in public schools where all the interventions have been directed to students who need to learn English as a basis for success. PRA was quick to recognize her challenges and offer assistance. Their character education and sports programs offered her a pathway to building confidence that wasn't only dependent on academic success. In short, they worked to build an entire person, not just an academic genius (there a plenty of those, too). I work in the public schools and PRA students are very polite, respectful, and supportive of each other and the teachers compared to what I see. Those negative reviewers need to stop by their local public middle school, or high school and participate in the chaos that is a passing period. Finally, faculty and administration are very approachable and results oriented.

Homework is meant to be work done at home, not done in class or study hall. It is supposed to emphasize concepts and reinforce instruction. In looking at the homework assigned, very little seems to correlate to the actual instruction received in class. There are a few exceptions dependent on teacher, but this is far from the norm. But, what causes greater concern is the general lack of homework given because of the philosophy that kids need time to decompress after school. Also, many families have complained that their children were getting too much homework, so the shift was made to lessen the homework load to around an hour a night. (Statement coming directly from teachers.)

Academically, the school is not preparing the students for college. Students are lacking in the fundamentals of math and science, and those parents that have expressed such are pushed aside and their concerns gone unaddressed. The School knows there are deficiencies, but is not taking the appropriate steps to address (because it would require a revamp of their existing math and science programs). This is substantiated from College Professors who have experienced interactions with former PRA students and have directly (stated) indicated that there are significant gaps in college algebra and pre-calculus skills, science, and to a lesser degree, English. The integrated math approach currently used at PRA has also been the topic of discussion among other teaching professionals and College Professors, and identified as the worst method to use. There is a general lack of respect between students and that of the students towards the teachers. There has been a progressive and drastic decline in the quality of the education for middle and high school observed over the past 5 years of my experience. The teaching staff, with exception of a few good teachers, clearly identifies that they do not know how to effectively instruct to even the most basic of concepts let alone mastery. Test scores are falling; students are not exhibiting college readiness. That is a fact, despite the selective interpretation of data that suggests the opposite.

Addressing bullying means that you, as the school, need to acknowledge that an event happened. Suggesting that you can find no evidence to indicate such happened because the student in question denies it, means the school is turning a blind eye.

There are a few teachers who are actually motivated to engage their students, are "tough" in their teachings and grading, and enjoy imparting their knowledge onto their students. But, most teachers are just there to get a pay check and obviously did not excel during their own formal education.

Academically, PRA is top notch. It is a college prep school with an emphasis on Math and Science. Class size is smaller than our local public schools which makes it easy to get one on one time with teachers. The high school is full of school spirit with pep rallies, varsity football games under the lights, as well as homecoming and prom! It is a true high school experience with a personal feel and an academic push. We love it!

We love PRA! My kids came from another local school and find PRA to be more rigorous and challenging academically. I love the focus on student leadership even at the elementary level. We've had teachers in grades K-4 and have found all of them to be great at meeting our children's needs whether it be through flexible grouping or taking the time to get to know them on a personal level. Lastly, I feel my kids are safe at the school. I love the check in system that the school has, as well as the system in place where school volunteers must be trained prior to working in the classrooms with the kids, or accompanying them on field trips.

I have kids in elementary, middle and high school. We love the school. Parents are very involved. I appreciate the fact that they have a dress code that is enforced. Quality of teachers is excellent. Much better than my experience at other (highly rated) public schools.

My kids just went through Kindergarten at PRA and I was very happy with the experience. I talk to a lot of the parents in their class and I volunteer on a couple of committees so I have gotten to know a pretty decent cross-section of the Community (parents/staff/admin). My takeaway is that these people all care very deeply for the kids and are trying to build the best school possible. It's a relatively new school and so there are certainly some newer teachers that are likely to continue to improve their craft, but I have yet to find any of the teachers that I remembered from growing up - the ones that are burnt out and stopped trying. Everyone really tries to do the right thing.

I have read quite a bit about the dress code and people seem to get really upset on either side of the issue. Some upset because they are told that they're child wasn't complying - some upset because they felt Administration wasn't strict enough about enforcement. Overall, I think people get a little too upset about this issue and wish the administration didn't have to spend so much time on uniform enforcement and could redirect towards things that will help academic achievement.

They have a different "special" every day (music/art/tech lab/science lab/PE) and they visit the library once a week. The other parents seem to care as much about the schools' success as I do, and I think that is probably as important as anything else. Overall it's been great and I'm looking forward to that continuing in the future.

This school has failed my children horribly. One of my children has attended this school since it opened two and a half years and just transferred out to Coyote Ridge and he is very behind where he should be. I knew that they weren't pushing my children to do better, but they gave up on them. I volunteered often and saw for myself. My kids weren't the only ones that were ignored. I believe if the school tests well at all it's because of all the great schools these kids came from. Several people have left the school because of how bad it is. I know two other families that left for the same reason. There are a few really good teachers there, but the school as a whole is inexperienced and seem like they really don't care. They care about tests, only those that do well on them, and taking your donations. Thats it.

Makes me wonder if parents are talking with their children about their school , teachers and friends ? Mine constantly tell me how teachers are yelling , telling them to shut up and how if they can't pay attention and listen they won't go to college - that one was the best because that teacher later got promoted and my child had it recorded . Very unorganized and " clicky" if you like that kind of thing .
Apparently there is a lot of cussing that teachers look the other way about , if your "popular " you can get away with not wearing code uniform .. The best was my daughter and her friend together walking down the hall had the same skirt on .. One woman that works there actually said to the girl you look so cute nice outfit , and then scolded my daughter and was told her skirt was very short but would let it slide , lol what a great way to set self confidence for young girls lady !!! And from what both my kids say there is a whole lot of bullying going on . I know a few that didn't return because of it but never let anyone know.
Do people that work here have their eyes open? Why ignore this ? And what are these dumb KEYS that they do once a week ? Shouldn't parents be teaching kids that stuff ?, do parents even know what this is ? That's where organization is off . And why are middle school kids walking to the high school for classes ? This is safe ?
I know when I enter the school I feel like I just entered the girls high school bathroom and interrupted a conversation on hair .. I can't imagine how young girls feel . It's very cold .. Glad it's their last year .

I have 3 children that all attend Prospect Ridge. They have all been there for two years and absolutely love it. As a parent, I love the small school feel and how each of the Teachers cares so much about my kids. I love the academic rigorous curriculum and that the students can be placed in higher level courses when they need to be challenged more. I have a sixth grader who is taking all of his middle school math in one year. We will stay at this school because it has been wonderful to our family!

We've been with the school since the first year and are considering moving our kids to another school. There is very little fun and creativity in the classroom, the teachers favor the athletic students, and the assignments are odd and are graded very subjectively. My kids have loved learning in the past and now they are extremely bored and unmotivated. I share other parents' feelings that it is hearbreaking because the school had so much promise. Our kids have always been high achievers and we feel like we need to move them to a school with more heart and substance to help prepare them for college. We've kept them at PRA hoping things would change, but this will probably be our last year.

Wow! I'm astonished by some of the negative reviews people have made about PRA. My son is on an individualized education plan [IEP] and receives excellent support. School isn't easy for him. He struggles. I am absolutely blown away by the amount of individualized attention/instruction that is given to him on a daily basis. When he needs intervention, it's given. When he needs rigor, it's given. He's come a long way and I have the excellent team of first grade teachers and the literacy specialist to thank for that!!... I have close to 20 years of experience in public education. One thing I believe parents with students on IEP's need to do, is their "homework" before enrolling their student in a charter school. Many schools are up front about the types of IEP's they can service. PRA wouldn't make my son's acceptance official until their support team [admin, special ed, etc] sat down with me to discuss his needs and whether or not they could meet them. I was quite impressed they did that. The only reason I am giving PRA 4 stars, instead of 5, is for the lack of diversity in the student population. We love PRA!

At PRA, teachers and parents are expected to do more (giving time and money) because this is a charter school. Did you know teachers at charter schools make less money than we would working for a public school? I stay because I believe in what we are doing. You'd be astounded at the number of master's degrees floating around here! None of the schools I have seen can compare to PRA for rigor, engaging lessons, caring teachers and administration, or parent partnerships. Several other posters on this site felt that PRA did not address their child's special needs and that we pushed them out the door. We passionately care about the needs of each student. Unfortunately, due to money, the best place for a kid with high needs really is with a larger district that can afford all the accommodations that kid deserves. It is astounding what we have accomplished in a mere four years. I would absolutely want my future kids to attend PRA. Honestly, we have a waiting list at every grade level. Let that do the talking.

My children currently attend PRA & we are trying to switch next year. Highly disorganized & poor communication are rampant in elementary. Middle school is better but there are a few teachers that are severely lacking. Fieldtrips are planned months in advance but the permission form/money request comes home & is needed the very next day. Volunteer to be a chaperone & get 2 days notice that you have been selected & are needed. PTO acts like a cliche right out of high school. Money, money, money - you are seen & treated like a dollar sign & the more you can give, the better you & your kids are treated. If your child is being bullied, the principal will bring your child & the bully into the office together & have them talk it out face-to-face. You can guess how well that works out once they leave the principal s office. Honestly, the list just goes on. My kids used to love school when they went to our local public school but the past couple of years at PRA have made them HATE school. I do like the curriculum & they talk a good talk. Unfortunately, the current administration/staff are not able to bring those ideas to fruition & they lack respect for both the students & the parents.

We've been at the school since it opened. The school seems to have confused rigor with lack of responsiveness to student needs. I am struck by is the number of worksheets, the low level assignments, and the questionable instruction. I also notice a general attitude of expecting kids and families to adjust to the school versus an attitude of support or responsiveness on the part of the school, except for a few pockets of teachers. Some of what I notice plays on my worst fears of what a charter school can become: teachers who don't feel accountable to students/families (either the student gets it or he/she doesn't, the school happily takes credit for those who do well while placing blame on those who need more help, or comments are made about the school not being a fit). It's been pretty heartbreaking for us on several occasions when the needs of our children have either been ignored or dismissed when we've brought concerns to the attention of teachers and administration. I'm not sure the Board sees it, and I'm not sure the administrators have the influence they need to change it. And every year I hear more parents complaining.

I'm very impressed with the school. My children's academic levels have improved since moving from our neighborhood school to PRA, and they continue to be challenged. I'm a highly involved parent, and I've noticed there are plenty of opportunities to become involved and feel invested in the school.....from planning class parties, donating items for school events, volunteering in the classroom, copying & laminating, being a part of a school wide committee, etc. A school wide email with volunteer opportunities goes out to parents every Monday, along with emails from a grade level coordinator ever so often. In addition, we've lucked out with 2 wonderful teachers this year. We feel fortunate to be a part of the PRA community.

I so wanted to love this school. It's probably a great place to be an adult, but not so great to be a kid here. The teachers here are inflexible and unapproachable, and the kids (and their parents) appear to be a nuisance to them. And the craziest part is that they have no sense of what it feels like to be a visitor or student at the school - and they don't seem to care. They all hold themselves in very high esteem. If your kid needs encouragement, relationships with her teachers, and/or teachers who feel it is their responsibility to meet the needs of their kids, look elsewhere. It's a weird, weird place. I've never seen anything like it.

We have been very happy with PRA. We have experience in elementary and middle school and both have exceeded our expectations. We have been at the school since it opened. We like the smaller class sizes and educational sound system in ALL classrooms. The staff has been very professional, helpful and open with addressing the needs of our child on a 504c and another child who is accelerated. Middle school sports, dances, clubs during block days, great elective choices, Student Council and National Junior Honor Society add to the amazing atmosphere. The academics are challenging and having a true science and Apple computer lab add to the experience. Uniforms and required volunteer hours help create a balanced atmosphere. Communication is top notch - weekly emails from administration, easy access and response from teachers, updated website/teacher websites and weekly emails on volunteer opportunities helps tremendously. The state of the art Elementary/Middle school and the new High School are wonderful. The only down side relates to field access for sports. Access to fields needs to be a priority. PRA has a bright future and we look forward to seeing what PRA does next!

This is a great school if your child does not have a disability. If they do, be prepared to be pushed out. However, if your child fits their mold, they will do well. I rated them average because of their bullying tactics to push families out of the school that have a child with a disability. I would rate them above average for a typical child.

Our son has completed two years in the elementary school level and we couldn't be happier. He has issues and all have been dealt with very, very well, to include when he was being bullied! He is pushed academically and doing very well. The two main teachers he has had have been very open with their communication and worked with us and him to keep him focused and on track. Communication from the principal and assistant principal has also been very open and honest.

PRA is an amazing school! I have two daughters that have attended there since the school started. I have one daughter who needed some extra help. They have gone above and beyond to help her. My other daughter has been challenged and is doing well. The staff in general are wonderful, and are passionate about what they do. Even though it is a fairly new school. Every time an issue has come to surface, it has been dealt with. No matter what school you are in, they will always be positives and negatives. To me the positives far out weigh the negatives at PRA. We are very pleased with this school, and are looking forward to both our daughters graduating from this school's high school.

PRA blatantly states that their *only* academic goals are for their students to test well on CSAP. It's in the charter document and PRA's final application under Section D - Goals, Standards, and Objectives. There is no question that this is 'teach to the test' school hardly concerned with any true learning experience.

My daughter is in the 3rd grade, and has been at PRA since it first opened. It seems the bad reviews are from middle school parents, and since my daughter is elementary, maybe I am not seeing the same issues. So far, my daughter has received great instruction. When compared to her peers at other schools, I believe that they are learning far more at PRA. I hope that the trend continues, as we have no plans on switching schools, ever. My daughter has also had to utilize the use of the school counselor and school psychologist, both of whom have been great, and very responsive to my questions. My only gripe..... drive line.

Excellent school. I am baffled by the previous posts. I have three children who attend PRA ranging from 1st, 4th and 7th grade. Both the lower school and upper school principals and vice principals are excellent. We have lived in several states and this has been the best educational experience for my children. The teachers are very approachable and while the school is in their third year there have been some glitches like updating the websites frequently I found that it was nothing that couldn't be solved by emailing the teachers. One of our children has an IEP and has learning disabilities and another is accelerated, amazingly this school meets both children's needs. That's a rare combination. I love the approach of having multi tiered classes to address the children's capabilities. The accelerated student was able to continue ahead in math and reading while the child with learning disabilities has accommodations in place that are readily addressed. I just attended his IEP today and was impressed again at how supportive the vice principle and all of his teachers are. We are truly a team. I've experienced the opposite at other schools previously.

PRA did not deliver on it's promises for academic excellence, experienced Teachers, healthy and supportive community or administrative effectiveness. PRA's focus is on money and not on children and families. Our experience left my A stundent and athlete traumatized and there was not appropriate support provided by the school. Several families I know have had similar experiences and have pulled their children from PRA so my experience is not isolated. I have worked in education and as a Therapist for many years and am extremely disappointed in their lack of follow-through, accountability and compassion.

This school is TERRIBLE! I chose to send my daughter there because it is supposed to be a college prep school. It is anything from college prep, the students are not higher about than any other school and in some areas are behind. This school does not offer half the classes that a public school would provide you with. The teachers were hired straight out of college and do not know how to properly handle the middle school students. The school is run poorly and is an extreme disappointment.
