This school has a great art focus that our children have thoroughly enjoyed. We also love the sense of community at Laurel.

We have been enrolled at Laurel Elementary for four years now and very much looking forward to many more with our other children. We have come to love many teachers/staff there. They have shown time and time again that they go above and beyond on a daily basis. They are committed to the success and well-being of each child. Any concerns we have had have been met with an immediate response. Although the school is adjacent to a neighboring public park, we have never felt unsafe on school grounds before, during or after school. My child is happy and thriving as a Laurel Lynx.

We support our neighborhood school 100%. We are proud to be Laurel Lynx. My kids are thriving at this school. They are learning academically. They are learning to be good friends to all neighbors. The staff work incredibly hard at this school to make sure kids are growing and cared for. We cannot say enough great things about the school and staff. All the teachers are top notch.

100%. Laurel has a diverse population. My kids are with students from many different backgrounds, with many different stories to tell. I am so appreciative of the love and support to all students. All kids are made to feel important and loved at Laurel.

When we toured the school with our incoming kindergarten kiddo, and the principal explained Laurel's special education programs with love and pride and as a strength to the school, we knew this was the place for us.

I have two sons at Laurel right now, and I think this school is top-notch. The teachers are wonderful, and the atmosphere at the school is warm and welcoming. It's a very diverse student population -- in terms of race, ethnicity, and income, but also learning level (programs for both gifted kids and kids with disabilities). The teachers are marvelously flexible, finding ways to teach to kids at their level, individualizing assignments, and making all kids in the class feel included, challenged, and encouraged. Diversity is so hard to find in FC, and Laurel embraces it and fosters a caring, inclusive, and cooperative community. The test scores at Laurel are lower than some other schools in the district, but I'd send my kids here over those schools every time. What my kids are learning at Laurel is much more valuable than what standardized tests measure. They're learning how to be cooperative members of a diverse, inclusive community; they're making friends with kids who are different from them in a million different ways; they're learning not to expect (or want) to be surrounded by people just like them. (They're also learning math and all the rest -- way above grade level -- thanks Laurel teachers!)

My oldest daughter has been at Laurel for several years now and my youngest is a about to start. We have had excellent experiences at this school and love the sense of community we feel here. The teachers have been wonderful and their communication excellent. I have a few reservations about the principle's communication, but on a day-to-day basis we are extremely happy here. The class sizes are small, they stress and practice anti-bullying skills, and the homework is age-appropriate (I'm on the 'kids learn through play at the early ages' side of the spectrum). As for the transient population in Eastside Park, which is adjacent to the school, I've never seen them on school grounds and they have never bothered me when I was with my children. We stay and play with friends every day after school and have never had any issues. I also don't feel the need to shield my children from lives that are different from theirs; honestly, it is a learning opportunity.

We have had great teachers at every grade level. Only once did my child and a teacher have a "personality conflict", and that's not a problem exclusive to Laurel.

My children usually have a worksheet or two weekly. (Usually math and spelling.) It's not too much, and it's enough to keep the concept of homework in their minds.

Laurel has adopted the Peace Keepers program. This program includes "Circle Time" where the children have a safe place to discuss good and bad experiences using polite language.
Laurel has been wonderful in rewarding good behavior, and consistent in redirecting unpleasant behavior.

Our family choiced in to Laurel and have been very pleased ever since. Small class sizes, WONDERFUL staff, friendly atmosphere. Laurel has a diverse population which reflects the real world and the school does a wonderful job with teaching English language learners, those who aren't yet at grade level and their Gifted & Talented programs are terrific. There are opportunities for ALL the kids at Laurel.
We have taken advantage of the violin program (free!), and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Laurel.

Although well intentioned this school is lacking. There Disciplinary system needs an overhaul. Children are not taught proper interpersonal skills. There curriculum is for underachievers and there goals are set low. Drunk and disorderly men; fight, roam, sleep, etc., on and around school ground. In a three month time span I personally ran into four dangerously drunk individuals on school ground, while dropping off or picking up my child from school. I advise against having your child attend this school and I wish someone would have warned me about this school.

I have 3 children and my oldest children went to different elementary schools are now at the high-school level. My youngest however is at Laurel. I don't know how this school is if your child does not need an IEP but my daughter does. The teachers and staff treat us like we are idiots. I have been flat out lied to by the case manager. They are difficult to work with, We are trying to get her out of there as soon as possible.

Laurel is a wonderful school with great community spirit. We feel at home every time we walk into the school. We are greated by name and never treated like a number. My child is above grade level in all subjects and the teachers account for this and challenge her. This school has many extracuricular activities offered, such as violin, yoga and school trips. Laurel also teaches a great value system. I could go on and on. We love Laurel.
