what a wonderful school!. The blue ribbon adds up! my son is in 7th grade and is in the honors algebra math each day he comes home with a variety of things he has learned during the school day. after each trimester he gets faculty commendations or high honers. We recently just moved and my son went to this old school where he wasn't getting challenged enough and got bored, however, at this school his grades and education have skyrocketed! and it's not that this school is too easy. since he is in honors math he comes home with packets of work and loves it!. in his la class they read a bunch of classics and write essays and opinion-based pieces. oh, how he loves the teachers! especially his math teacher. and what a diverse spectrum of clubs. he loves to partake in the math counts one where they study and compete in states. my family adores this school.

The school is over-rated. We moved here because of a "Blue Ribbon" reputation but it has fallen FAR below expectations. The Remote Learning curriculum has been garbage. They change the schedule every 2 weeks. Zooming into a classroom where the teachers are supposed to somehow simultaneously teach the kids who are physically in the room results in totally inadequate interactive learning. Teachers do not get the tech support they need to run a virtual hybrid program. This school is non-inclusive on multiple levels: The curriculum is white-washed with no attempt to be inclusive of other cultures- i.e. History is only the history of white europeans. A PE teacher mocked and belittled a non-binary student. I regret this move. If you're looking for a good public school experience keep moving. Save yourself the disappointment.

My child is a new student this year and it has been a wonderful experience for her, so far. She is more challenged with its academics and is able to join in extra-curricular activities. I was worried about her being able to adjust coming from a private school that has a very small class population but a week after school started she was able to meet a diverse group of people, make new friends and transition easily. The kivas in the school are very effective in such a way that it is able to break down students considering the big population for each class. As much as other parents might think that it can be isolating, I think that breaking the students down into small groups help the teachers focus on each one of them. I also love the student-led conferences every semester which help us understand our child's strengths and help her address her weaknesses. Furthermore, my child is learning how to engage with kids with different personalities.

Children should be allowed to be children, i.e., play, socialize, join clubs/sports and activities. The amount of homework for the four major subjects each night is too much. Kids do not have time to be kids, nor spend quality time with their family.

I am on my third child attending ELMS and have had only the best experiences. The staff is very fair to all students.

My 6th grader (new student) started apprehensive but in a week, he has flourished to be open, positive and loving towards his school. The leadership makes it a priority to be involved with the students, which shows me their dedication. The encouragement my student gets to aim high is subtle but strong and the outcome is a positive one. I am glad I made the decision to be part of this community.

East Lyme middle school is one of the best schools for good education. The teachers are very welcoming, friendly and show interest on students inquisitiveness.

East Lyme Middle School is an above average school. They have won many awards including CAS Middle School of the Year in 2012. ELMS uses a unique Kiva system which has pros and cons. It also helps by making the school of 900 students feel slightly smaller which is good for newcomers. ELMS serves grades 5-8 and is very good about Life Arts. Unlike other schools you have a full range of 'specials' from Tech Ed to Band to Orchestra to Life Skills. The teachers are very well selected and are perfect. I rate this school 4 stars for great classes, excellent teachers. I have removed one star because the kivas can be restricting when your child is limited to seeing friends from other kivas. In addition, the principle is not the best. She can be overly strict and moody.

This school is the best one I've attended so far. I love the Kiva structure and I think most teachers are spectacular. However, I think there should be more options for children who are able to go to a more advanced class, as I find that many kids (including myself) are often bored. They do a great job with kids who are struggling academically, though.

The staff and teachers at this school and Niantic Center are so coldhearted. They seemed so careless when I was going and didn't seem that interested in the students education

I find East Lyme Middle School to be a terrific school. In my opinion the Kiva system works very well to make each student part of a manageable group. As far as I have experienced the teachers are diligent and responsive. Mr. Bitgood is super! Our student is enjoying his middle school years.
