I feel like a lot of parents put all the pressures of teaching on the teachers only. But in reality, the teaching starts at home. Flanders is an incredible school, with so much support! My daughter left this school last year, due to us moving and we moved back to Connecticut because we missed the district and all of the things this school has to offer. I feel like the teachers do a great job with all the children regardless of where they are or really, where they aren't. I feel like ifh child is really understanding what's going on in the class and she needs to be challenged more, I'll challenge Her at home. But I really don't see that problem and not because my child isn't smart. She truly is. A lot of that I feel comes from a combined effort both ag this wonderful school and from us at her wonderful home.

I am very displeased with this school, my daughter is currently in 2nd grade and the material is Kindergarten level in my opinion, and my daughter is constantly coming home saying "I hate Flanders, I haven't learned anything". I talked to the principal and they said they would give her enrichments, but my daughter claims the enrichments are easier than the regular work. Pathetic. My daughter already knows multiplication, and some division and flanders 2nd grade isn't learning anything. My son learned cursive writing and multiplication in 2nd grade back in TX. Again Flanders is pathetic. The PTA is great, but the education my daughter is getting is a load of fill in the blank. I think the education is more hurtful here than beneficial. Very unhappy parent.

I disagree with the previous reviews - some written several years ago. I think the principal we currently have is very open to making Flanders into a desirable learning environment for all children that attend. I have always found her to be very approachable! I have several children attending and when I had an issue regarding my child she was very happy to meet with me. I think if you are interested in moving into this community, you would be very lucky to have your child attend this School! Regarding the PTA - I have alway found the board very open to new ideas and I know I have not paid for a single field trip for my child because the PTA paid for them. They also have many family events. It was nice just spending time with my kids and other families in the community.

I I agree with the review that the principal has done the Blue Ribbon designation of Flanders School a disservice. Flanders had always been an innovative elementary school, one in which people moved to the area for. The quote stated in a previous review that had been hanging at the school entrance for many years is now gone. The Responsive Classroom philosophy only goes as far as the teachers choose to use it as the Principal is clearly not supporting it. This school used to be rated a "10" with Great Schools, but is going downhill. Children who are above "level" get no additional enrichment while children who are below "level" receive support. It has become a great place to be average. The school craves inspiring, innovative and energetic leadership. The current principal has made many changes; Few that positively affect the children.
