Baker School

Im currently a student at this school. The school does not take care of students mental health needs or situations dealing with bullying. The school often ignores bullying if a student is in sports. When i ask them about it they claim i need to make more then one report otherwise they cant do anything. I have. I have written so many reports so i have it on record that i was labled a snitch and bullied more. I was once asked by the dean on students if i really wanted to report a student because it means he may not graduate. When i reported him despite what she said, nothing happened to him. I had to get a stay away agreement with a student once which extends to on campus activities such as football games. She would often abuse the ocntract by walking over to my groups of freinds snd talking to them forcing me to walk away so i domt get in trouble. Once i was placed into a class with a girl i have a stay away contract with, usually the guidabce counslers make parents sign a class change slip but they immediately changed my classes to cover up the mistake. They sweep what they do under the rug.

My son has moderate autism and he LOVES this school. The ESE classes are from 6-12 grade, with teaching catered to their grade level, for students with multiple types of learning disabilities. My son has worked hard, with the assistance of his ESE teachers, to be in certain general education classes for his electives. This year he's taking welding...WELDING! That's huge for him! He also is in JROTC and I think he honestly lives for this class because he LOVES that he's accepted and even loved by his peers. 2-3 years ago, I would never have thought he'd make it through one semester of this...if you knew my son, you wouldn't either...but he's on his 2nd year now and even went to JROTC camp this past summer for a whole week. This school was life changing for my son. His social skills have exponentially increased. The ESE teachers truly care about their students!

I haven't had any issues with bullying at this school and I have 3 sons that attend here and have attended for 7 years now (2 elementary and 1 high school). I know it happens, it does everywhere, however it can only be dealt with if it's addressed. Sometimes students will keep it to themselves and wait until it progresses before reporting it. Teachers do their best to diffuse this, but they can't see everything. If it happens, the student needs to speak up and the school will deal with it!

YES! Character building starts at home, but sometimes parents neglect to teach these things. The school is committed to ensuring the students become responsible people that contribute to society with upmost of character. Teachers don't tolerate lying or disrespect either. They run the classroom, not the kids!

Teachers send home weekly packets for homework in elementary school. It's to reiterate what they learned in school that week so they can gage whether the student has a solid understanding before building upon it. It's not too much either, I believe it's critical to holding them responsible and cementing what they're learning.

These are some of the best teachers I've EVER had the privilege to deal with. They teach subjects in a way that the children understand them, not just test well on them. Each student is different and they will communicate with you if there are issues. They push info, you don't have to pull it.

5 STARS!! I LOVE this school, I LOVE the teachers even more. They rule the classroom, not the kids like you see in other places. This is a small town school where everybody seems to be friends regardless of social status. My kids have attended school in Japan, New Jersey, Kentucky, and Florida. Baker school is the best they been to and they love going to school...they even love riding the bus...(who loves to do that??). If you want a small town, traditional school, with great teachers who help their kids academically and physically (through food/clothes/etc. when there's a need), strong morals, and good in sports, this is the school to attend. BTW, they have classes in WELDING, WGTV, CULINARY, CONSTRUCTION TECH (wood shop), and JROTC, in addition to the normal electives.

Most of the teachers I had (with the exception of 1 or 2) taught the material very well, covered a sufficient amount of material, and made the exams not too easy but not too hard. I wouldn't be who I am today without them, lots of these teachers deserve raises!

Depending on the classes I was enrolled in, homework was always plenty but it was never too overwhelming. AP classes required more homework and studing, which was to be expected.

From what I've heard from my friends, the JROTC program here is pretty good.
I was mostly involved in the drama club. It was great until the teacher retired. The new teacher was too easygoing with the students and things got out of hand.

I graduated baker in 2013. Teachers are nice and generally responsive to students needs. Once, I had problems with another student harassing me, and the disciplinarian was quick to make a restraining order and fix the issue. My family and I were so thankful!
But this isn't the place to go if you plan to get to college. You'll get into college, but there just aren't many academic opportunities. Quite frankly, the community as a whole isn't super interested in it. I couldn't get as many college credits as I would have liked in high school simply because it wasn't always offered (only a few AP classes are available) or I wasn't able to drive to the nearest college campus. Other public schools have the option to take duel enrollment classes at the high school, which is awesome and makes things so much easier for students looking to get college credit.
The year after I graduated, a friend still attending baker school informed me that our robotics club's funding was cut, to get more money for football. Now I will admit that I'm a nerd, and it made me upset that sports is bigger than academics at this school.
Really, it just depends on your personal preference. Quite frankly, a lot of people who graduate from Baker stay in baker. Not many students really care about academic success, and sports is a huge social thing that also ties the small community together, which is a good thing for those who like sports.
The school is poor. Very poor..
Books are really old and parts of the building are 100 years old (I'm not joking). Baker school was officially labeled by the county as a poverty school a few years ago.
So overall, people in the community are generally friendly, teachers are friendly, not many opportunities for college, sports is important to the school, and the school is poor.

I am currently going into the 11th grade and I love it here. I have seen reviews saying things about how its all about who you know. Well, I can tell you that is wrong. My parents nor me really hot to know anyone in the school until later on. Possibly somewhere in middle school. But the key is behaving. If your children behaved maybe they wouldn't be suspended? Anyway, I have never really have had a problem with anything here except for other students. But, for the person complaining about teachers not doing anything or doing to much, teachers are usually not around or not paying attention to that particular group of students at that time. And if no one else sees it/no proof, or if no one reports it, nothing will happen. People's time in school is only as good or bad as they make it. And this school is no different. All the teachers care a lot about each of their student's success. One more thing id like to add... How 'bout that "Sound of the swamp"? BHS Band :)

I have really enjoyed my children being in this school. The teachers run the school and not the children. I have a high schooler and an elementary school child. I thought that not being from the area would be a disadvantage but they really care. If you show involvement with your child and your kids are respectful, they will be fine.

This school is all about who you know.They single out kids and find every little thing they can to suspend them and then they send them off to schools that are not any better.They kids kids end up dropping out.I wonder what the real total is for drop outs are for this school?I will never tell any of my friends to send their kids to this school.

My children are in 6th and 8th grade and have been going to Baker School since Kindergarten. I have never had any problems with the school. The teachers have all been caring and willing to go the extra mile to help with any issues. It is a small town school with a lot of community support. All of the staff is friendly and my kids enjoy attending this school.

This is the most backwards school I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I've got two children attending this school (2nd and 5th) and Baker is without a doubt the worst school! One morning I went into pick up my boys for a dentist appointment and it took them 35 minutes to "find" my 7 year old! Ridiculous that they have no idea as to what the heck is going on and where their students are. The teachers are either way over involved in what the kids are or aren't during, like sending home notes because my 10 year didn't eat his entire sandwich at lunch, or not involved enough, like turning the other cheek to a bunch of older kids stealing his lunch 3 days later! If you looking to move to this area, look into putting your kids in a different school, seriously!

My son is a student here and is actively participating in the oncampus dual enrollment classes through NWFSC that are taught during the swchool day. The teachers of all his classes are the best I have ever seen and the family atmosphere of a kindergarten through 12th grade school if phenominal.
