Location:  Eglin AFB is located in Okaloosa County, in northwest Florida, comprising over 640 square miles. This is a military friendly area and also a major tourist attraction due to the white sand beaches. Eglin is located 8 miles northwest of Fort Walton Beach, FL; 60 miles east of Pensacola, FL and 65 miles west of Panama City, FL.  Installation's homepage.

Cost of Living:  The area is a high cost of living area and has relatively low wages.

Schools:  Students at Eglin attend schools in Okaloosa County Schools website.  The Okaloosa County School system provides public education for K-12.  Eglin has one school on base at the Cherokee Campus. The local phone number is 850-833-4320. Those students who live on base and are at middle and high school levels attend Lewis Middle School or Niceville High School. Busing is provided by the school system from the base to both Lewis MS and Niceville HS.

At Eglin AFB, military family housing is privatized. Corvias Military Living owns the family housing and is responsible for maintaining, repairing, constructing and managing the community. In addition to your option to purchase and rent housing in the local community, you now may choose to live in privatized housing by signing a tenant lease agreement with Corvias Military Living.
