I have been a faculty member at Niceville High School for 27 years and have had a unique opportunity to see its growth in comparison to other schools and its consistency in dealing with and preparing students for the future after high school. The philosophy at this school is to treat all students fairly and to give them the tools to succeed in the future regardless of their potential. I am very familiar with the programs designed to assist students that are struggling due to basic ability, environmental concerns and other impediments to learning and know the programs we have to assist them are effective and outstanding. This school is consistently well above other schools in the county and the state in all statewide evaluation metrics. I also am very familiar with the programs available to support those students with exceptional potential and know that they are well prepared to meet the challenges of university life. Many of my students are excepted and excel in all the Ivy League schools as well as the best schools in the South and the West. We regularly have students appointed to all the service academies. This school is always in competition with the major private and magnet schools in the south of the state—schools that are allowed to recruit through scholarships or screening criteria. Yet, we continually beat or come close to beating them in not only almost every athletic category, but also in the arts, music and academics. The Niceville work ethic to drive for excellence is the key to this success. Regardless of whether or not it is an outstanding band, chorus or theater program as well as excellence in athletics and academics, the drive to succeed instilled in our students is what will make them successful when they leave this campus. As a public school obligated to take whoever walks through our door and provide them with a high quality education, Niceville High School is far above its peers. Professional educators are the best judges of a school because they know all the factors that impact public education. I am a professional and have ample experience in other careers so have a basis for comparison with other professional organizations. This is one of the very best I have seen. I will never retire from this school and will continue until no longer physically able to do so. All of my four children graduated from Niceville High School, and if you have a child

Most seem to be good teachers. But I have noticed there are few if any times teachers can be found to help students before or after school. Making up a test might mean coming to school before it starts which is already too early. It starts at 6:55 am! The system in which to see grades online is often faulty. Your student really needs to keep up with his or her own work and be sure the accurate grades are input. Also it seems like at least regular classes are easy and there are several chances to retake tests or quizzes to pump up grades.

No. This school celebrates mostly the athletes, in particular football. Much school is missed so dance teams and cheer teams can do competitions which is unnecessary. They say they have an anti bullying belief. Truth is all they do is to move the child being bullied to a new classroom. The bullies get a slap on the hand basically. Maybe parents are called. I don’t know. But considering the school is almost 80% white Caucasian, the students need a lesson on diversity. There are drugs and jewels in the bathrooms. No one does anything about it.

Far too few counselors per student! Students really need to keep up with what is required to graduate. It’s difficult to see a counselor. Always have to make an appointment or email them. Very hard just to walk in. The principal is good and cares for the kids. Office staff not always the most cordial.

The school is willing to listen and get the counselor involved. But really all that happens is a lot of talk. They will move the child being bullied to a new class. But why should he/she be moved? Why not the kids who are the problem? There is a lot of ISS-in school suspension. But not a lot of kicking kids out which should happen

Overrated. A lot of school pride which is nice. The community highly supports the school and students at which is also nice. But I personally think the kids get a lot of chances With grades and on FSA’s so NHS can look good. The regular classes are often kids who are slower to learn, not the high achievers. Seems pretty easy. The honors classes are somewhat challenging. Really the AP classes are the most college ready classes. The school also has dual enrollment. I’d like to see academies at the school where they can choose classes they think they’d like to do in the future.

It is amazing and pretty clean for a public school. Who doesn't want 350 band members, 200+ chorus members and over 2000 new friends. Thank you Niceville High School.

Although Niceville is a great school, the homework is a huge problem. With students staying up till 1:00 am to finish homework on any given night, the school should reevaluate its homework policy.

People claim that the school idolizes athletes but that is not the case. This school demands success academically and is shown through student success as a result of great teaching. Academic success is the normal and exceptional students are rewarded. Ivy league schools are normal for graduates, while exceptional athletes are not as common in the area until recently. Therefor athletics might seem unjustifiably celebrated, but all success is recognized. Although public, this high school is a great Christian community with smart, athletic, and happy kids.

As a countdown my final days as a Niceville Eagle the bittersweet chapter end is sure to have a life long lasting affect on me. I have lived the best four years of my life thus far, I can say 100% that this is the place for not only your high schoolers but your entire family. Coming in from the opposite end of the country during my freshman year I was assisted gracefully to ease the transition. It baffles me how parents have demeaned NHS on this site, so here's my perspective. Being Asian & European I have not experience racism in my 4 years in NHS. I was able to obtain high positions in the SGA, partake on the 2015 Homecoming court, head many leadership events & frankly my list goes on. I genuinely believe that high school is what a student individually makes it out to be. The color of my skin has never pushed me back in the crowd. I have gained important relationships with my teachers and I love my fellow Eagles. "A tradition of excellence!" And that is NHS in all aspects of student life.

When we moved to the area - we were told that NHS was the best school hands down and even chose to live below our standards to live within the school zone. It was a big mistake! There is an unspoken mindset at this school and within Niceville city limits. Racism is there and it's more prevalent at this school than any other high school in the area. Our daughter is bi-racial and she has had a very difficult time fitting in and being accepted. She is a straight A student - but with the treatment from other "entitled" students - she has had a very hard time. We've also had a difficult time with some teachers not teaching appropriately. Their job is to teach subject matter but they can't explain it? I'm used to an open door policy with teachers if a student needs help or asks questions - but there have been a few too many times that once the bell rang - the teachers were out the door. It's not the worst school but it's definitely not the best. My daughter will shine no matter what school she attends. Niceville HS is not end all - be all.

Why is there such a large area for football (both a stadium and practice field) but no real soccer field? Doesn't seem fair....

We are relieved that child is leaving this school after her freshman year. NHS has changed in recent years and not for the better. They are trying too hard to embrace the "everybody gets a hug & a trophy" mentality of liberal schools in larger metro areas. The kids who really work hard are not being properly recognized or rewarded for their efforts. There's lots of politics going on; the faculty and staff are afraid to say or do anything about bullying and harassment. Hard working Christian kids should never feel ashamed or afraid to be themselves! There are still some really great teachers there but, they're afraid to step out of line, politically speaking. This is censorship at it's ugliest. All of the great reviews are based on the NHS of the past. I'm afraid those glory days are gone forever, it's a shame.

I went to Niceville for four years. I think it was great! I had a lot of pride (and still do) because everything at Niceville is superior- all of our sports, academics and otherwise. They have many courses to offer and many extracurriculars as well. They also let you have freedom to create your own clubs and feel like you have a say in the school. My only real complaint is that it was very cold in some of the classrooms.

I have 3 children in this school. This school idolizes their atheletes. If you play on varsity team you will pass no questions asked. I have seen students with numerous failing grades end up with an A. Volunteer at this school and it will be an eye opener. Many of the teachers are related or married -nepotism is prevalent here.

I've been going to Niceville for 2years, and am returning for my 3rd year. I love Niceville. There are so many ways to get involved, bullying isn't too much of a problem from what I observe. I am a seasoned competitor on the Forensics (Speech and debate) team, and I'm very fortunate to have forensics in my life. I am on Cross country and track team as well. The computer classes are great! I've been taking them since freshmen year. I am sixteen, and I know 3 computer scripting languages and 3 digital design softwares. I have industry certification in Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc. One thing that is irritating though is that football rules all. Football players treat other athletes poorly. As a runner, I have been and seen my teammates teased. There is a lot of school spirit which is fun. I feel that in some ways NHS is too strict. Guidance counselors show no enthusiasm and they are ho-hum.
