This school by far is the worst in the District, which says a lot. Were there good things about it? Yes, like the spirit, and the football and dancing/cheer.. If you're not in any of that, it's next to horrible. It is severely underfunded in everything but the football and yearly basketball court update. I was in theatre, and we, as students, had to put our own money into it. Our most recent theatre teacher, knew nothing about it and had us higher theater kids teach the class, he even went into debt because of underfunding. The halls are so crowded you were late to almost every class almost everyday. The staff never truly cared for us. The teaching was mediocre, never could tell us how or why, favorite students heavily. Bullying went overlooked. NOT TO MENTION, THE CONSTANT THREATS. We'd get threats and find out through other kids and parents, and when they complained, then the school told us. It is filthy, bathrooms gross covered in dirt, blood, and other gross things. Mold everywhere, a working ac barely half of the time. The ceiling in one of the science rooms was about to come down entirely. I literally watched as a ceiling panel almost took out our assistant principal. If you weren't IB, a football boy, or dance girl, they didn't care. I had a teacher leave me and two other girls in a class for an hour or so, and a medical emergency happened so I had to contact the nurse and sros. I was exhausted by the end of my time, from the over working and pressure of trying to make ends meet. The best part was my friends and the 1 teacher who I met. I will forever love them. Never the school.

I was a student of CHS and the administration is absolutely horrible, I honestly wish florida wasnt a 2 party consent state so i could have recorded the things admin as well as teachers were saying about not only each other but other students.
And do not expect to get anything done with the counselors they are also extremely unprofessional and they do not care about you or your student they care about having the most relaxed day they can. I have also been told by multiple teachers and staff that the counselors like to talk a lot of trash about the students that actually like to make the counselors do there job instead of dragging a 5 minute conversation through 3 weeks of emails.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

I recently graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and all I can say is that it was bad. For all four years of my high school career, the A/C was constantly broken, and when fixed, 75% of the time itd break down again within the next day or two. The school is severely overpacked and nobody does anything about it. Within my last two years there, it just got more and more cramped, and now according to a few friends I have still at Choctaw, the hallways will be at complete standstills for at least two minutes due to how many students there are. The guidance counselors were either never available, looked at you like you had ten heads, or acted like you were heavily inconveniencing them with whatever you had to talk about. I was trying to get my transcripts from the school a few months ago so I could enroll in college classes and the guidance office just laughed, went well that sucks, and hung up. The front office ladies? Forget about it. They literally have the simplest job in the school and yet they still dont know how to do it. Theyll also constantly be extremely crabby, as if someone came in and ruined their whole week. They barely help the teachers (if even at all) and they only care about you if youre the football team, the cheer team, the Indianettes, or the Stylemarchers. If youre not any of those? They could genuinely care less about you. I, 100%, would have transferred to FWBHS if it wasnt for the fact that I was a Stylemarcher. They also do not care one bit about your mental health and the only guidance/office person that cared is no longer there. They have never been open to parent-conferences unless your child has done something wrong. All in all, I can confidently say that the only things that were good about that school was the band and a handful of teachers.
In conclusion, if youre a parent reading this and are able to send your child to a different school, please do. Because Choctaw has become/is a very bad school and I wouldnt even wish the torment of going there onto my worst enemies.

Most of the homework we got none of our class knew how to do

My algebra 1 teacher was horrible. I raised my hand for a good 10 minutes without being acknowledged and once just got to me she told me come after school. She would not go over lessons deeply she would only skim through them. Then the next day we would have a test. Our class average was below a 15%.

I see people being hit or punched almost every week. One of my friends was punched and the school didn't do anything as he had a black eye. It was unprovoked.

Honestly I only went to this school for the band. Academics are horrible the teachers are even worse The school is very dirty lunch room floors look they have never been cleaned same goes with the bathrooms. Would not recommend. Unless you want to be in the best band in Florida.

The teachers don't care for the most part and assume that students are stupid. They assign hours of homework that doesn't actually help us understand the material, it really just confuses us further. Then they'll give us a test on the material (after they don't teach it), with different terminology on the test than was in the book or on our homework as well as never being mentioned in class. Most of the staff could care less how we do in our classes, all they care about is getting their paycheck every two weeks. They push their IB (International Baccalaureate) program way too hard and then if you fail their little test at the end of your senior year, all your hard work was for nothing because you will not get any credits. One good thing I will say about this school is that there is a ton of school spirit and the Stylemarchers (band) is incredible.

Most teachers are very ineffective. There a few "okay-ish" teachers and a few fantastic teachers but for the most part they don't do their jobs or care.

As a student here at Choctaw for 4 years i would recommend anybody's child to attend this amazing school. The school has a great atmosphere with multiple excelling programs that have been successful for a while now such as IB, Band, ROTC, All Sports, and more ! yes i'm exaggerating when i say there are a million cameras so your child's safety is in good hands. As apart of being being a student here for 4 years i wouldn't choose any other school. This is more than an A+ school, it is a school that can lead your child into becoming a mature, responsible, and smart young adult in the real world. In other words... #GBG !
