My son attended Amelia Island Montessori School for 6 years. Our experience was very positive. The class size is small so the kids actually have a relationship with each other and the teachers. There is not much staff turnover. My child really did develop a love for learning. The staff is caring and supportive. They are involved in the community. Everyone knows everyone type of environment. It is a safe school tucked away in a safe spot.
My son always tested several years ahead of his grade. I like that Montessori does a three grade./year block at a time. That way, the kids are always learning at their own pace. If a kid is a little behind, it’s okay. If a kid is ahead, it’s okay. The children are to help each other. For example, the third graders help the first graders if they need it.
I also love the open classroom environment. I never enjoyed sitting at a desk in one spot all day and didn’t want that for my child.
I worked recommend this school to anyone. I will say it’s much easier to stay in a Montessori and stay in a Montessori. It may be a difficult transition coming from a traditional school setting.

We have been a part of the AIMS community for 3 years now, and we absolutely love it! Our two boys, ages 7 and 10, are happy and thriving here—both academically and socially. The teachers and staff are compassionate, supportive, and experienced. We know that our children are learning life skills here that will stick with them for a lifetime.

I disagree that the new Director is any better than our previous one. She is not very agreeable. We need a less judgmental environment, stronger communication skills and a more focused direction.

Previous issue of a lack of leadership has been amended. With an experienced and knowledgeable director in place, this school is a warm, friendly community with high standards for learning and behavior where kids are allowed to be kids. The activities are hands on and include a lot of structured play time for young children and self direction and independence for all children.

The teachers are fine (though only about half are actually Montessori certified) but the director is a joke. She is not an educator of any kind, but a real estate agent, who seems to be unaware of neither the policies and procedures of the school or laws for the state. She operates on her feelings and is mostly unavailable. This is not representative of any of the Montessori schools we have had experience with in the past. Very disappointed. Will be moving my boys to a better private school.

Fair. The teachers and programs and heart that made this school continue to be replaced by stale ideas of the new directness. Sadly, nothing special anymore.

Note the 2007 review re: issues with the existing Board & structure. They noted hope with new Director there may be improvements.
Now, 2016, 3 more Directors have come in gone due to the existing Board. This small town Board continues to make poor decisions so talented Directors hands are not empowered rendering them ineffective. High staff turnover continues.
Paying $9,000yr, 9 am - 3pm, we should, at minimum, expect public school standards. Not to mentioned a discount since we have had no Director for 2016-2017 & are short staffed.

Parent bullying continues here despite signing an agreement.

Teachers and Stand in Directors do not report bullying to parent. If a complaint is made, there is no follow up. Due to lack of Director and staff, it's tough hunt down an answer.

Nothing anyone can do with the long term Board

Posted: January 27, 2017

Board continues to conflict with the embraced Montessori way "working things out". Tough decisions can still be delivered with dignity & respect. Since they are not, it pit parents against each other and creates a negative environment. Kids are smart and absorb it all so integrity, compassion and respect are a tough lesson in the environment

My child likes her teacher. I feel she is bright. However, it's taken 5 months to see consistent school work from work week. Teachers are already overworked even without the constant issues at AIMs (short staffed, no Director, controlling Board causing it all). So dedicated teachers not to blame

My son loves going to Ms. Susan's class everyday!! We are amazed at how much he has learned this year in Kindergarten and the true depth of his understanding. They were working on a new concept today and he was so excited that he wanted to go Tommorrow on Saturday.

My daughter attended AIMS for three years. She loved it! The school has great teachers and a learning methods that excel in all areas. She has a strong understanding of math and spelling. I believe this is due to the spesific teachings of the Monetssori way. She is a fantastic student and eager to learn. I believe this is due to her experience at the Amelia Island Montessori School.

When we had our first tour I was amazed at how quiet the classrooms are. These children are learning and asking questions. My daughter started and this is her first year. She was struggling in public school. Now she is excited to go to school. She comes home and does her homework without any problems. The teachers are wonderful. My daughter has an caring interest in her fellow classmates. Everyone at her school wants these children to succeed. I am very satisfied with our decision to enroll our daughter.

As a parent of two children at AIMS and after one full year of education there, I can say this school is by far the best school I have had the pleasure of having my children attend. The teachers are amazing, the classrooms are warm and inviting, and the knowledge and life skills the children obtain is priceless. I will be sending my children here as long as possible. The Montessori method has proven to be a successful way to help my children become independent thinkers with a deep caring for others and the world around them. As a bonus, the other parents are involved and supportive as well.

This school is unlike any other in the area. Students learn to truly love learning, how to think, reason, and resolve conflicts. There is a great, supportive family atmosphere. I didn't know much about the Montessori method before I enrolled my son, but I am amazed at how well the students progress and how much they love coming to school. By the way, they also do great on standardized tests!

It's a great method of learning, small and intimate with individual attention. There is great oppertunity for students to move ahead at their own pace
