As a former student, I do not recommend this school.

In my experience, bullying, discrimination, and unfair treatment were not handled seriously. The school seemed more concerned with keeping things quiet and maintaining a peaceful image than with protecting students who were hurt.

Telling students to “stay away” or “ignore it” is not a real solution to bullying. It simply puts the burden on the victim while allowing the problem to continue.

Students should not have to escalate issues to higher levels just to be taken seriously. They deserve a school where safety, fairness, and emotional well-being matter more than appearances.

I used to be a student here, and in my experience, it was a great school! mainly the students and some teachers are what made the school great. Of course, there were some bad teachers and staff, but other than that, I had a great experience here and miss it very much. Only thing I don't miss is the dress code.

i went to surfside last year i was in 6th grade "sarah grace norman" i got bullied alot i even spoke to the councelers about it and all they told me was to ignore the students witch did not work i even got bullied to the point i was wanting to end myself i made 4 true friends the students i met where nice others rude there is alot of drama the teachers i had where kinda nice i struggled and did not get help half the time i loved this school but it had a negative affect on me i cried on my last day i transfered to homeschool still in homeschool i will be going to public school again either breakfast point or maybe surfside again i still have friends that go here but i will say the dress code this year is insane the schools look like prisons and making students wear certain clothes is uncalled for not only that the teachers can dress however, insane also teachers did have favorites the girl teachers overly love the boys i hated watchting it overall staff members were nice to me i enjoyed this school but its not worth your mental health i will say i want to go back just to see my friends but the girls drama and boys drama is overally insane i do recommend going back the a normal dresscode and be free to wearing what we please because it makes students feel like there in prison or in a millitary boot camp its why kids call schools now days "prison or jail" i hope the school sees this review your welcome ps parents i recommend breakfast point middle school kids will learn better get help and they have a acadmey just for kids who are special!

As a former Student (Joseph McCaskill) I can confirm that this is a real sorry excuse of a school. Parents keep your children as far away as possible!!!

The administrators and leadership at the school bully more than the kids do. If you do report bullying make sure you get it documented on paper or else it never happened in the schools eyes. The faculty start more drama than the kids do!!!

The teachers appear to care about the students. Definitely play favorites thought.

This school crushes students character! They have negatively effected my sons life. Going to this school was the worst decision I could have made for my child! THE WORST ‘A’ RATED SCHOOL!!!!

Surfside Middle School principle and administrators should be ashamed of the way they treat students. There are double standards all over the school. A male teacher can hug a student but a student can not hug another student without being suspended...of course only if your student is not one of their favorites.

I've been going to Surfside since middle school. The teachers don't care about the students. They don't handle serious personal subjects well at all. The counselors try to make everything into a big deal when it's not. Surfside is not a good school and never will be. I now understand why most of the students went to BPA this year.

I am a student graduating from Surfside this year. Surfside is the worst school I have ever attended. However, I have met some great teachers at Surfside that truly care about their students. Sadly, they do not make up for the rest of the staff at Surfside who don't care about their students at all. I would strongly urge anyone thinking of going to Surfside to stay as far away from that school as possible.

I am in fifth grade; today I took a tour of Surfside Middle School because I am going there for 6th grade. When I first walked on campus, I was amazed by the beautiful place I was in. Honestly, the students and staff at the school seemed like the kindest people ever and I can't wait to join Surfside and become a shark! The students introduced us to all the awesome clubs they had there and the principal introduced us to herself and the other staff members. We went through the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade halls. This school seems very organized and amazing, I also love the actresses and actors and band members at the school. The band welcomed us at the front of the school with a song when we first arrived, it was truly beautiful. They put on a sneak peak of a play they're doing of Aladdin; I loved it. This school is very neat and clean and also seems to have wonderful people in it. I totally cannot wait to join this amazing school. -A soon to be student

As an 'Alumni' of this school i have had first hand experience to the bullying, teachers, administration and EVERYTHING. I will do my best to WARN parents away from this pit. 1. Teachers: I've only had one experience with a teacher that has actually changed my as a person. Mark Douglas, he teaches Geography, US History, and Creative Writing. He's cool, young and he UNDERSTANDS that not all students learn the same way. He uses a combination of fun educational videos, worksheets and lectures to fully engross you with knowledge. I graduated SSMS 2 years ago and we still keep in contact. I obviously haven't taken every class in the whole school but i've heard from many friends that Mr Holmes, the band teacher, has been the most influential person in their lives. 2. Bullies: Yes, parents, the year is 2014 and bullying is very much still around today, but not the way that you remember it. Kids dont give others wedgies. Instead they'll call others 'faggots' 'losers' 'nerds'. They'll trip, push, or knock you down. Your kids swear. I know it's not something you want to hear but EVERY kid in ANY school nowadays (elem. schools are exempt...for now) swears exponentially. ITS JUST 'COOL'

My daughter went to school here for three great years. We had the option of going to school in town or at the beach and we are glad we chose Surfside! She had a wonderful experience with her teachers. There were a lot of clubs and classes for her to be involved in. Of course, things can be hard for any middle schooler, but I think that Surfside was a great place for her. Now, she is at Arnold, but still asked me to take her back to Surfside to visit her old teachers!

My daughter chose to go to Surfside for her 8th grade year. It is by far the worst school my ever daughter has ever attended. The teachers and staff do not put the students first. There are some teachers that will even go as far as blaming the students for their lack of teaching/planning skills.

We moved to Panama City Beach last year and enrolled our child at Surfside. This school has been an incredible experience for him. He doesn't play sports and isn't in band, so we thought he may have a hard time getting involved. We were wrong. He joined one of the service clubs, Kiwanis I think, and got involved there. They also have a Leo Club and a Beta Club. His teachers do a lot of small group work which helped him get to know a lot of his classmates. I thought it was really nice that the first week of school his teacher made it a point to find other kids to go to lunch with him and introduce him around. Academically, they are an A school. He did really well on the state's standardized test this year and his classes seem challenging. He's really excited for school to start in a couple of weeks. I would recommend this school to any parent coming to PCB.
