The bullying and violence are out of control there a many incident daily and at least 4 families have pulled their students to Home school because of this and the lack of care for or enforcement of 504 and IEPs. Do better. This is despicable, disgraceful and disrespectful to the students/children, parents and the community.

Unfortunately, the problem at this school starts at the top. The administration has no interest in supporting students with neurodivergent behavior nor do they seem to care to do better. My child was unable to academically succeed in this school due to a refusal to honor 504 accommodations and a denial of his psychiatric pediatrician’s recommendation for an IEP. They said he didn’t “seem autistic enough for an IEP because he was so intelligent and well-spoken.” He was reprimanded constantly for behaviors directly related to his disability, and the administrators refused to help him when he was bullied to the point of having suicidal ideations. They will circle the wagons and cover their behinds to protect their own. It’s not a good school if you aren’t rich, white, and neurotypical

Our student has been bullied for the last few months at SMMS. Reaching out to the principal has been a complete waste of time. We have never once received a response by phone or email from the principal or anyone representing the administration at this school. The one time we did meet with an administrator, our student was accused of lying about their experiences. We even reached out to the school board who referred us back to the principal directly and told us that he spoke to the principal and instructed her to speak with us. That was over a week ago and we still have not heard anything.

This school knows that bullying exists, and in some cases in severe forms to the students. In our experience, they either cover it up so people are unaware of it or they ignore it completely. We have never experienced an administration for a school that has zero concern for their students and a complete lack of respect for the parents.

Our experience has been pretty good. There were some hiccups in my daughter's first year due to overly strict dress code enforcement and a bizarre no backpack rule, but this has since calmed down with the new principal. This school is now STEM certified as of late last school year. My daughter is going into 8th grade this year and has always been in the AP classes. Her grades are decent and the staff are very supportive of their students and the extracurricular activities they take on. Overall, I'd rate this school as Very Good with teachers that really do care about their students.

My child was in the gifted program and we did not agree with the way they put our child on a pedestal. She hated it. .she had to sit on an elevated level at lunch ... above her friends, looking down on her friends ..

School seems to have some issues with bullying. My child came home upset numerous times complaining about the bullying. I tried getting the teachers to deal with it but they seemed to minimize it as my child being too sensitive. I discussed the issue with other parents on Facebook and found numerous parents with children being bullied and parents being unable to get the school staff to deal with it. My child also said and other children and parents have expressed concern that teachers push politics in the classroom and belittled children who don't agree with the teachers political views. I've also heard that some teachers use profanity in the classroom. A parent sent me a Facebook screen shot where a teacher told a child it needed to be "educated on politics" because of the child's political views. Obviously a child expresses its political views from its parents, so where does a country employee or teacher find they have a right to criticize a child views taught to it by its parents? Thankfully, my child is out of this school district.

I don't agree with this statement. My son had an A-B average and was a 4-H club President in his elementary school in another state. I put him in St. Marys middle school and his grades dropped and so did his self-esteem. I know the school has a severe bullying problem but I'm not sure if its the county administration or teachers who ignore it. Either way, i would not recommend this school. Home school your child or put them in private school.

I don't agree with this statement. My son had an A-B average when he came to this school. He left with poor grades and low self esteem. The teachers would either blamed him, me, over crowding but never themselves.

I love St. Marys Middle School!! I have a daughter who is now in high school who had serious psychological problems while at SMMS. Her teachers were caring, kind, and did all they could to help her be successful. Currently I have a son in 7th grade at SMMS. He has been very sick and missed a lot of days of school. His teachers are wonderful, staying after school to help him get caught up, giving all the time he needs to make up work, and just checking on him frequently to see how he is feeling. I couldn't ask for better teachers, counselor, and nurse!

I find the ones that I have had experience with outstanding. They are knowledgeable, aware, in tune and on top of the content and students. The lesson plans are such that required a lot of time and effort. They stay in touch with the parents and keep us up to speed on our children.

My daughter is a gifted student and I think homework is very important. The course content is expansive and there are only so many hours of school each day. She has not have hours and hours but a decent, tolerable amount in each class.

My 3 older children attended this school and they loved it and received a great education that prepared them for success in HS and College. Recently, my youngest started attending and her teachers are wonderful. She is challenged and appreciated. The faculty has been accommodating, professional and gracious. Looking forward to a successful 3 years at SMMS.

Very pleased with this school. If you're child is in the gifted program, they only attend the core classes with other gifted students. Their electives are with other students but their core classes are strictly gifted. The teachers are great at communicating. I receive weekly emails from at least one if not more than 1 teacher every week telling me what they will be doing in class, homework, and upcoming tests. They have Math sessions before starting a new unit which allows the parents to come in and learn what the students will be learning so they are better able to help with homework.

i'm in the 8th grade hall right now and i'm on team 8-3 I LOVE my science teacher she is the best teacher in the world!
