I would never recommend this school! The bullying issue is horrible and they don't do anything about it. The principal made my friend cry because she got dress coded for wearing fluffy leg warmers and the principal was rude to her. I have also gotten dress coded for wearing leg warmers and they do not effect learning and I have in fact been more confident since I've been wearing them. One of my other friends has gotten food poisoning from the school's lunch and she claimed that the food didn't break when she bent it (things like celery and cheese sticks). My boyfriend has gotten made fun of for being "chubby" and no teachers around did anything about it. Last year the girls weren't allowed to wear tank tops but the boys were. This school is extremely sexist too. Would not reccomend

My grandson has autism and an iep. His experience there was horrible. I ended up pulling him out of school two weeks early. He was constantly being put in in school suspension when other kids started problems with him but no other students were being held accountable. The special education teacher shakes the students desks, uses foul language, shakes their desks, smacks students hands just to name a few. I have brought this to their attention multiple times and nothing was ever done. Other kids have hit him and no punishments were done to those kids. Another student stomped on his packback and broke his computer. Instead of having his parents pay repair fees they just said it was an accident. Nothing happened to the student that broke it. Completely unfair. I felt he was being targeted constantly.

My kiddo has attended this school since 6th grade, shes now in 8th, and its been an absolutely joke. Education is terrible, staff is rude and in terms of handling anything you ask them about, they simply dont. We also had foster kiddos attend this school, and while not all the staff is rude, a good chunk of them are. Additionally, they let absolutely anyone coach any sport. Teachers who have absolutely no business coaching sports, coaching. Now while I understand middle school is about learning the fundamentals of sports, the kids dont even get taught that. Dont play tennis if you truly want your child to learn. Mine had fun, yes, but in terms of fundamentals, learned nothing. Plus, quite a few of the children who attend this school are bullies and go out of their way to make others feel inferior or less included. Mind you, these children also receive special treatment due to social status. This year, the 2025 school year, they decided to finally implement individuals who direct the drop off line and it honestly made it more chaotic. My daughter is extremely intelligent, and hasnt learned anything special since being here. I was actually about to pull her and homeschool, but she loves the school aspect and her friends so we opted to keep her in. Its not just Lake Hazel Middle School, its West Ada in general. My daughter actually chocked at lunch, and I didnt hear about it until she called me after school. When I found out I called the nurse and her response was I was going to call you after school 4 hours later. On top of that, she has surgery late last school year and I personally walked her pain meds to the nurses office to ensure they were handed off properly. The nurse bluntly told me well I dont like to give these if I dont have to, Ill give Tylenol first. No, you will give her what I tell you to. I called west Ada to talk to someone, never got a call back.

mold food there was a fight literally Monday and a kid got knocked out the math teacher don't teach the kids and all the front office staff always seem so angry and have an attitude towards the students. and the kids don't be quit or want to learn.

One of the older school buildings but very well maintained. Teachers are engaged & well liked by students. We transitioned into this school as 7th graders & the staff was awesome throughout the process! Compared to our past states 9 & 10 rated middle schools, lake hazel middle school scores were higher than the 9 & 10 rated schools in our prior state. Do your research, dont just go off some basic rating. Theres more than just A NUMBER.

The administration does nothing to stop the hostile environment that is brought on by bullies.
If you have a choice please talk to parents read reviews and think twice about sending your
kids to this school. I am close with someone that is involved with the local schools and this school
has some big issues that are neglected. Please take this review to heart
The only reason I have one star is I could not review without it.

I think that the atmosphere at Lake Hazel Middle School has changed the last year or so for the better. The staff is on the same page, communication is very clear when it comes to giving and receiving information concerning students. There is a variety of approaches when it comes to academics and that helps fit the different learning types of all students. I really like the fact that my kids go to LHMS.

Kids get beat up within FEET of the school and nobody does anything. I have had to, more than once, leave work and go pick my daughter up when she was walking home (we live 0.4 miles from school) because there was either an actual fight, or someone getting bullied and she was afraid to get pulled into it, and too kind to walk by without helping.

They move kids into middle school in 6th grade (compared to Boise's 7th grade start) and then just pile on a lot of random nonsense with very little support. It is so much more busy work than helpful, and there is a TON of it.

The only teacher I was ever able to actually have a conversation with, called to tell me I needed to speak to someone else because he was going out of state for a coaches learning seminar or some such and that my daughter "should know where everything is" so he would not help her. None of the other teachers even responded to my requests to talk.

Bullying, prejudice, acceptance of mediocre performance, are all standard at this institution. What they considered "adequate" for grades (and I fought in vain to get a relationship with the teachers to help my daughter do better) the school we transferred to considered failing, and my daughter had to take 6th grade over again. The school was so bad that it was worth redoing 6th grade just to get out of there.

This school has a lot of issues with bullying, cliques, students just being thrust through the system without much thought. I have heard from many other parents as well about how horrible this school is, and the leadership does not seem to care enough to respond to any complaints. They were never helpful to us transitioning in with a 6th grader, throughout her time there, or transitioning out. Nobody even cared to know WHY we were yanking her out of school.

This school is a joke! We are doing everything in our power to get our children out of this prison like environment. I do not have one positive thing to say about this school. I do not think there is a single adult in the building that likes teenagers, enjoys teenagers and I can assure you not one person there enjoys their job. If I could rate this school with a zero star rating I would. The kids here are treated with such a low regard I am shocked any of them are trying at all. My kids come home EVERY single day telling me something new that has happened. We 100% will not be allowing our children back in this mess. Terrible terrible terrible from the administration down to the janitor.

I am convinced that this is the most miserable group of adults thrown into one building I have seen. The teachers are robots and do not care about these kids at all. I have no idea why they are teaching at all?

My daughter has 7 class, every night she comes home with homework in 6 of them. She walks right in the door and stars homework we are no longer allowed to plan after school activities because she is often working on homework up until the minute she goes to bed. It is completely out of control and I have discussed this with all of these teachers.

The way students are treated is an absolute disgrace. These kids are entering into a place where they will be entering adulthood soon we should be encouraging critical thinking, independence, and problem solving. Instead these kids are constantly treated as if they criminals and thugs its really gross. The sexism is also disgusting. Overall it is a place where honesty, integrity, and fairness is completely absent. I have never seen this demonstrated in this school once.

This "school" is nothing more than a day care facility and retirement stop for old teachers. Son was so frustrated by the teaching methods of half his teachers that he simply shut down. The math department is particularly mind blowing in their ever changing teaching methods and appear to operate without a single text book. We pulled him out of the school and entered a private school (at great expense) to save him from these "teachers". If you truly love your children seek alternatives to this institution. Our son ended up scoring a 95% in algebra in his new school and now loves math. Better yet he loves the new school experience as well.

This school is horribly overcrowded. Nearly 1,500 students in a school meant for 1,000. The district is trying to alleviate the situation by building another school. They asked voters for $104 million bond to pay for it. Although most voters approved the bond, 2/3's majority vote is necessary to pass the bond, so it failed. I pulled both my children from LHMS and enrolled them in schools of choice -- their grades went from D's and F's to A's and B's. I don't think it was about bad teaching. Sixty-eight staff simply cannot keep track of 1,400 kids.

This was my school for all three years. Yes it has its issues. but here is the thing it doesn't get the funding it needs to be the biggest middle school in the joint school district. This school does need improvement but it also needs support from the community.Also there are lots of awesome teachers her it is just a few that ruin it overall if you are willing to take a chance, This school is definitely worth it

My son has attended all three years and every year his academics got worse. His eighth grade year is the worst he's ever had and he used to be a 'A' and 'B' student. He's failing math but the schools excuse is "all the students are having a hard time because it's a new curriculum." But if I suggest holding him back, they say he needs to go to an alternative school. My child isn't disruptive, he's respectful, no other issues. An alternative school is not an option but sending him to high school when he is behind is only going to make him further behind. If most of the 8th grade was having issues with the new style and curriculum, then the school should have addressed that to the parents instead of me having to confront them about it.

All i have to say is that this school is terrible. I am a student and i go here. Seriously, the teachers don't even try to help you. They always tell me that if i did bad on something it was my own fault because i didn't know something. This something being something they never taught us in the first place. They just expected me to know it. Especially the math teachers. But i won't name names.

This school is awful. My kids were forced to go here from Christine Donnell School of the Arts because the stopped having 7th & 8th grade over there. My kids are straight A+ students, and are not in any way academically challenged here. My son has under 15 mins of homework a day, and that is looking at flash cards and some simple math. He reads for fun at home as he is not challenged at all. The students dress like slobs or like Britney Spears - parents don't seem to care about modesty, and the faculty doesn't seem to mind either. My daughter has about 1 hour homework tops, but it is all so easy - she was doing this stuff 3 years ago. Both my kids are bullied on the bus. My daughter is bullied in her class. The foul language that is used by students is offensive and attrocious. Home school kids hang out at this school and cause trouble after school. PTA is not good...they do little to involve the parents. There is very low school pride. Not the brightest students, faculty that doesn't raise the bar, limited time between classes, sprawling campus, huge lunch lines, little to do on the playground - send your kids somewhere else if you can.

If you, or your child, has any intelligence you will avoid this school at all costs - - if I could give it a zero-star rating I would. They are rigid and inflexible to the individuality of children's rate of maturity and learning. My son is transferring there in 7th grade and is not allowed to take band or orchestra because first year is only taught to 6th graders and they won't allow seventh graders in first year band or orchestra. In his previous school he had 5 years of spanish, but they still make him take a mandatory 'exploring Spanish" class with a curriculum that he followed in first grade. There is only one honors program in the whole school, and thre are no options for advanced math - even if he was performing 1-2 years ahead of the current 7th grade curriculum at his old school. He has had three years of typing and types over 30 wpm, but they won't let him take a computer course because he has not taken THEIR keyboarding class... really? are their keyboards somehow special???? This school is all about cookie-cutter education standards with no regard to student individualtiy or real learning AT ALL.

We moved here last year and my son went to Lake Hazel. It was horrible he was called names and in one class the kids would throw things when the teacher wasn't looking. My son said one of his teachers wouldn't even teach he would just sit at his desk on his computer. I hope to move before my daughter gets in middle school or I will see about transferring her to another school. Lazy staff at this school.

This is a good school that is not always given the right amount of credit. There are strong bully prevention rules set in and the teachers are very supportive and try to help the students. Some students may get bad grades, but that is not the teachers fault. Education is a three legged stool- the teacher, the parent, and the student. Without any one, the stool will fall. The school is improving everyday and is trying it's best to fix its flaws. It is a great school. i am a student here and i know how great this school is.

This school is very lazy. There are a couple teachers that try but the others are there just for the money. there is alot of stealing going on and the school doesnt even know. the kids dont know how to keep their hands to them selves and not hit other kids or take other peoples food or money. very poor school. Very unwelcoming. P.S im a student so I get to expierence all these things first hand.

This school is horrible. I came here for seventh grade and fell into a great depression from it. The teachers here are not fair or welcoming. They are always choosing favorites which are always the popular mean group. Also they wont help you if your new to middle school in seventh grade. Before, in sixth grade, I was in the Boise school district, so i went to an elementary school. When i moved here though, The teachers expected me to be familiar with the lockers and period and other differences that i wasn't used to. They were also very cold towards me, immediatly marking me as "trouble" because of how i dressed. The students were just as bad, if not worse, the meaner, richer ones being part of student council and teachers pet. This school drove me to self harm, which made the teachers hate me even more. I wouldn't even give this school a star if i didnt have to. I would strongly suggest to avoid this school if possible.
