I wish I had trusted my intuition with this school. My child was not kept safe during our short time here. My child was sent on bus repeatedly on days he was supposed to go to after school care. A very serious matter that was reported to me by a teacher involving my child with another was not taken seriously. The assistant principal kept cancelling our meeting regarding the issue. She played incident off I do not believe my child was being watched over in this class because my child specified incident happened a lot. I removed my child. No one ever once reached out to see why he never returned or showed concern. Shame on this school for not keeping my child safe. Sure their eputation seems great, but that's far from what we experienced here. After attending another school, I can say, the difference is night and day.

Just left the school for better communication and for better opportunities for my child. There are some teachers that were right down lazy on doing their work. Also the vice principal wasnt helpful by any means when it comes to helping to understand the issues at hand. They didnt want to go out of their way to make sure the teacher was doing their job correctly. So over all I wouldnt recommend this school due to making sure your student is handing in their assignments, and some teacher never hand back the assignments when completed and graded.

Anser is an excellent school with wonderful, dedicated teachers. The EL model is leaps and bounds beyond what traditional public schools offer, and Im thrilled with how my kiddo is learning and growing. I can only imagine what my elementary and middle school years would have been like if Id had an opportunity to attend a school like Anser Im so happy its an option for my family.

Our kids have been here since kindergarten and we are continually impressed with the whole child approach, the staff and teachers, the creativity and implementation of the EL Education model and the welcoming community. Leadership is constantly proactively working to refine processes and respond to the current world, particularly post-pandemic. It's impressive what they accomplish with less funding than public schools in the district. Our kids love school and are fully integrating the wonderful character traits the school focuses on.

Anser has been fantastic for my two kids. They love school, and the teachers and staff genuinely care about the kids. Just last week we had a goal-setting conference (like a parent teacher conference) that put me in tears hearing the affection the teacher had for my unique child. The community is like no other. No school is perfect, but I have no doubt Anser is the right place for us.

Anser has been a wonderful school for my two children for the last four years and I would highly recommend it. While no school is perfect, the academics, quality of teaching, caring on the part of teachers and staff, and social-emotional emphasis all contribute to the success of the school and its students. Anser also does an excellent job communicating with families and welcoming us on campus and through volunteer opportunities. As a parent ,I volunteer frequently and feel a part of the community.
Socially, my two kids have had somewhat different experiences. My older child has had a very smooth social experience in later elementary and middle school and remains in a close friend group. My other child has struggled at timestheyve made many friends, but also experienced some pettiness and exclusion from classmates.
Academically, Id like to see a little more challenging and rigorous work, but I think both kids are learning to be original, deep thinkersand thats a huge benefit of Ansers approach. Most of the teachers my kids have learned from at Anser are truly caring and committed educators. Occasionally, I do come across a teacher who doesnt seem to want to be there, but I think you can find that at any school! Overall, Anser has been a great experience for us and I recommend it if youre looking for a slightly unconventional and very caring school.

Jury is still out. Leadership has opportunities to provide proactive communication and focus on the needs of students as individuals. Their focus on equity can work against gifted students. Anser can improve by providing different learning tracks for different learning needs. As a parent, we are waiting to see how leadership adapts to a post-pandemic learning environment, new school building, and the larger population. Our kids do love to go to school there!

Teachers
The experienced teachers at this school are effective. The greener teachers are still learning EL methods.
Character
This school develops strong character in its students, like integrity, compassion, and respect which are traits included on the narrative report card.
Leadership
They seem to be figuring out the reporting structure and leadership is dedicated.

The school does not live up to the hype. I believe at one time the school followed through with its mission but with the focus on expansion, there is less attention given to students, families, and their success. Several times in the years our child was there, we were given information about an aspect of their program only to have specific aspects of the program fall short. Communication is often reactionary rather than community-building and proactive. The lunch program is not as good as it once was. Hardly any appealing fresh fruits and vegetables like there used to be. There is a parent group that runs much of the special events and is quite exclusive. I feel like the basics were covered but also damage was done. My child was less and less excited about going to school and even developed an aversion to some subjects. Academics do not seem to be much of a focus. The child-led progress meetings need more teacher support and feedback. The school counselors and support staff are either great or condescending.

My son will be in 1st grade this year and went to Kindergarten at Anser. The interaction between the older grades and the younger grades is so supportive and encouraging. Whole school where the whole school celebrates and encourages each other is so refreshing. The character cards help to encourage the kids to focus on building integrity, respect, compassion and have a sense of responsibility to the community. We really like it so far and are excited to be apart of the school.

Our child has been thrilled with Anser. There are many many students with IEPs, and there are no school "dues" (even school supplies are provided by the school at the beginning of the year) so I can only imagine that the previous reviewer must have mixed up schools. As someone with knowledge of special education, there might not have been a way to provide an LRE - which simply means that there would not be the supports available for some needs (like if a child was not toilet trained, for example). Every child is welcome!!!

We were so excited when our daughter was picked from the lottery to attend this school. It all changed very fast when they realized she had autism and an IEP.They denied her entrance. This school completely discriminates against people with disabilities! I can't imagine this is legal! They informed me ONE day before public school started that she couldn't come there after I paid all school dues. We were reimbursed of course, but what a stab to the heart for our child who we always think this day and age should receive equal opportunity!

I have 5 children who have attended. Each with different needs. Some needed to be challenged more, others needed extra support for add and anxiety. This school is amazingly supportive. The school - teachers and students, live the values. It is a wonderful place.

My granddaughter absolutely loves her classmates and teachers. She is always excited to go to school. The student led conferences are so amazing and build self confidence and ownership of the learning process.

As a parent of five children, and a school volunteer, I get to see exactly how this school works. At first I was startled that the children call the staff by their first names, and I still am. (Will always think students should call teachers by their last names.)
The children get to take a few minutes away from the classroom, to clear their minds, or whatever. The children are given a lot of freedom, but you know what? it works! The children get to think by themselves better ways of handling things. There is lots of hands on work, which makes it easier to understand things. All the staff are very caring and show it, even the janitors and cook.
I highly recommend this school. Kudos to you all.

Teachers are constantly scolding children for just doing what children do best, playing. They are constantly emailing us whenever my son kicks a ball in the play yard too high or doesn't sit straight on the floor. Their rigid and inflexible staff is so strict I feel like my son is always walking on egg shells and can't act himself.

I really enjoy and love this school and my son loves being here. He started here in Kindergarten and has since enjoyed his schooling. The teachers are so hands on with the students and they really get down on their level. The children learn to interact with one another and they are really respectful to each other. They recently changed curriculum for Wednesday's to C3 and my son still enjoys it. I like that they are expected to actively participate and engage on all levels. They're taught to think outside the box, not just in. My child wouldn't want to go anywhere else!

Anser is terrific! It is everything you want in a school for your child. As an Expeditionary Learning School it focuses on academics through indepth and hands on projects. They also grow your child's character in a positive way.

There are much much better schools than Anser. Don't buy the line of talk about this being the premier school in the Treasure Valley. The school does some interesting things but doesn't prepare most students for the rigors of high school and college. Of course there will be the student or two or three who does well. That is to be expected in any school. My point is, it's not because of Answer. The problems with the culture of the school are very troubling. Other than individuals in the inner circle, it is a hateful, uptight place for students and parents alike.

The PR this school gets is out of control. Its spin machine tells a story much different than the reality of the school. Caution. Boise public schools are excellent, and this charter school isn't all it's cracked up to be. Don't worry if your kid doesn't get in the kindergarten lottery (most don't). Consider it a blessing in disguise.

I was a student at Anser for four years, grades 5-8. My review is, horrors! Not warm & fuzzy! My parents aren't rich, elected officials, or business leaders. I came in late. 5th grade. I am and was not weird, delayed, "special needs" or dumb, just a 10 year old kid looking to be accepted in a new school. Silly me. These students were stuck like glue together since they were 5 years old. They were superior to the kids who came later (well, the pretty and handsome kids were accepted right away of course). Their parents were elitist, too. I saw parents who came in late. Like me. They and their kids looked as left out as I ALWAYS felt EVERY DAY at this school for four years. Coming in to this caste system at 10 years of age was horrifying. Why does everyone think anser is so tolerant, warm, understanding? The teachers and staff like to think it is, so it must be. They never paid serious attention to those of us who were outside of the main groups. They never chose to do anything about how those popular kids ignored us at recess, before school, on field trips, CBC, electives (which were a nitemare for an unpopular kid so I was ":sick" a lot on those days) & at morning assembly.

I just read the other super-dee-duper-rah-rah reviews. The parents who said that they like it so much because kids are taught to respect each other. Wow. Don't you parents really see what's going on? I mentioned electives. Worst afternoon of the week for kids like me, because of how disrespectful and MEAN the other kids in my class were to those of use who werent cool or popular. A couple of parents would drive us to elective. The popular kids groaned but not loud enough so parents and teachers could hear, if they got stuck in a car with an unpopular kid like me. The minute we arrived the popular kid would bolt out to meet his popular friends. Then when we had to pair up, it was like choosing teams and always getting picked last every day. But worse. My question for Suzanne and Theresa and the junior high teachers and all the others who think Anser is so respectful is this: Where were you when these kids were snubbing the ones outside their social group? Someone will say now that this is not true. Believe me, it most certainly is & my parents have the therapist bills to prove it. I still have nightmares and night shakes when I think of having to go to that elitist school again.

We are in year 6 as part of the Anser community, and keep discovering more qualities that make us love our school. My primary reason for loving this school is that all people are taught to respect one another's gifts and uniqueness. Everyone has something to contribute, and something special to be celebrated. The academic standards are outstanding, supporting even struggling students to reach beyond average. My son is a student at Boise High School and easily transitioned to all accelerated and AP courses, and for him this was normal because of the standards everyone works toward at Anser. I would liken it to a "GATE" program for all students, where they are taught according to their skill level and learning style. It is an innovative environment, often cutting edge use of technology and methodology. Parent involvement is huge, and I love that I know my children's friends from coordinating their parent-led elective programs. My children's teachers are the parents of my children's friends too. And a great variety of people of backgrounds, except for one constant: everyone is there because they want to be.

You will read mainly glowing reviews of this school. We agree with the quality of teacher instruction, principal leadership & curriculum. However, the quality of child-to-child interaction and the healthiness of teacher intervention of negative child behavior are both substandard This school is full of cliques which exclude children. It is NOT an inclusive environment. If a child comes in who is "cute" or has popularity potential, then the child is welcomed. If the child is shy, has some type of learning disability or is not as attractive as others, then God help that child. Our children are not included in the "popular" group and have not felt integrated in the school for any of their years here. The teachers stand by, helpless, saying they really shouldn't intervene unless there is a dangerous situation. But there is. One of our children comes home in tears or with an upset stomach at least a few times a week because of being neglected or ignored by other kids. Even in these hip "CBC" classes in the community, the cliques continue. And if children feel they are excluded, they don't and can't learn very well. Anser needs to address this. It is a serious serious problem.

I have three children at Anser and there is no other school in Boise I would want them to attend. Anser has formed a wonderful community based on education and respect. Super teachers, involved parents and expeditionary learning make this one of the best schools in the state.
