I sincerely apologize, but who decided this was 2024’s best school of St Clair County? From my experience, students are afraid of certain teachers because of verbal abuse. Example: back in a class I was in from 2 years ago, my friend was called a “waste of air” in front of the whole class, and that teacher’s still here! Also, I feel like I have to hide everything now because of my last year’s ELA teacher looking through my notebook specifically for art, really proving that school KILLS artists. And can we talk about the difference popular people and other people face during physical education?? It’s absolutely insane how the popular girls get away with wearing jean shorts while the others wear those uncomfortable Mascoutah brand P.E. shorts. I feel bad for the color purple because of this school, honestly.

Racism and Sexual harassment issue. Lots of girls have been scared to speak up that have been sexually harassed because if you speak up you’re a snitch. I think they should do a presentation on sexual harassment and give out punishments if they hear it. Racism a lot of Asians, Hispanics, etc. Including stereotyping of Hispanics is a big thing but also Asians, black people, etc. Also dress coded is very targeted towards girls. You can’t wear tight shorts but you can wear leggings. Basically shorter leggings. Also showing your shoulders is somehow distracting and an issue including your stomach? Seriously. Who finds a stomach attractive like be fr.

This school is horrible. The bullying is horrible, no matter how hard you try to fit in, and the students are very racist and homophobic. The dress code is very strict for the girls, but the boys can pull down their shorts without getting in trouble. There are some great teachers, but those teachers also don’t get any work done in most classes especially when substituting for other teachers. This school also had a major issue with sexual harassment. There have been very known cases with it, but there are a lot of situations where the students don’t speak up about it. It is also very normalized for boys to some reason sexually harass and tease female students in the hallways.

Mascoutah Middle school is a fantastic school full of teachers who care and work hard to assist students. There is a rigorous curriculum that encourages students to work hard. There is a tutoring program in place to assist struggling students.

I got sexually harassed here and the staff didn't do anything about it. There were multiple reports of this student sexually harassing others and they didn't seem to care. Some teachers at the school don't care about the students' boundaries. I know they are "trying to help" but it can be extremely overwhelming for neurodivergent children.

I was bullied many times and now I am switching to a new school and many people had complaints about BULLYING IN THIS SCHOOL

We have had an excellent experience with Mascoutah Middle School. We moved here from out of state and everyone has been super helpful and friendly! My son is in 6th grade and he "hates" school, but he has exhibited a greater interest in school than I have ever seen since we've been here. I feel like the teachers are very involved and have excellent and consistent communication with parents. The discipline is great! They keep on top of the kids, encouraging responsibility. I love that they have gym everyday and other extracurriculars that may have been cut from previous schools he's attended.

I have been a parent in the Mascoutah school dist all my kids lives and Love it!! My family is NOT one of the 'old Mascoutah' families and yet my children play sports for the schools and are very involved. I have 1 in Jr High and one in Elementary. My children have a great relationship with all their teachers and wake up every morning excited to go to school! The teachers are great! They are eager and willing to talk with parents regarding any questions or concerns. The curriculum is challenging and the teachers are very good at catching when a child needs extra help or more of a challenge. I am reading a lot of reviews pertaining to discipline issues and how the school spends too much energy on discipline. Here's the deal people!! If you would do your job as parents and teach your children to respect authority, obey the rules and live with integrity, then maybe just maybe the schools wouldn't have to be over the top with discipline. Back and support your child's teachers instead of blaming them every time something goes wrong! Bottom line...wonderful school, awesome staff! Highly recommend it!!

I am an 8th grade student here at MMS. I have been in the Mascoutah District since 3rd grade. I will say I love almost all the teachers at this school and the principal and vice-principal. But, what I do not like is the students. Every year I have been tortured by the rude and superficial students at this school. If your parents aren't the "in" with everyone, you won't be either. Other towns go here obviously, so I, living in Belleville not in Mascoutah itself, do not get invited to be with people, talked to, ignored at school, etc. Advising parents who want to bring their child here, beware of the students. (And the extreme dress code)

At the start of last school year, I was very excited about the quality of teaching, and consistent routine. The school and the curriculum were well organized, and reliable rules were in place for parents to provide support. By the end of the year, we had a few issues regarding lesson clarification. I think a teacher should be available to a student when they ask for additional clarification on lesson, but the year as a whole was a very successful one. This 2013 school year has not followed those radiant characteristics formerly described. The administration and staff are disorganized, inconsistent and have forgotten "why" they became educators in the first place. I've been witness to enforcement of unstated policies on students that simply don't wash in the " real world." Its been very disappointing and I hope the educators can refocus and redeem their educational philosophy to be a more positive role models. I think they could redeem our negative impression by clearly stating expectations for students and and parents.

I have had 2 children attend the Middle school and I fount it to be a pleasant experience. My only distaste is for the front office staff they are rude, immature and unfriendly to parents. Which is the complete opposite from the principal and assistant principal. Some of the teachers over steps their bounds OFTEN, as long as you put them in their place it works out. The sports clubs are heavily involved with the inner circle of people through the town. So if the parents aren't "in the in crowd" your child will not be allowed to participate in any sports (no matter how good they are). The homework is tough and the so are the grading scales but I like that. I recommend the school be advise you to be aware of the faults.

The teachers are great for the most part, although some tend to put unnecessary comments in when grading and they're very inconsistent, particularly regarding student discipline. The principal doesn't know how to run his school and relies heavily on a vice-principal who has no clue what is going on in the school. Their difference in opinions and point of view add to the inconsistencies within the school (the ever-changing and sporadically enforced dress code in particular). The front office staff is given entirely too much power and has a very immature mind-set that is strangely tolerated by the principal (speaking poorly to students and speaking about students while the child is standing right there). They are snooty and do not understand their roles. Parent participation is virtually non-existent. There is no PTA/PTO and the school deems themselves fit to administer random disciplinary action. They clearly do not understand that they are in a huge military community which will administer their own action accordingly. They go so far as to tell you when you can and cannot retrieve your student from class (not during core classes). Overall, I would not recommend this school.

Both Mascoutah Elementary and Mascoutah Middle are excellent schools; my children have attended both from Pre-K to 8th grade. The ONLY problem I have is the lack of involvement that the middle school allows parents. I am very active in my children's lives-school included-and would love the opportunity to be more involved and volunteer as they allow at the elementary school level.
