Teachers are really bad at teaching and the safety features suck

as someone who somewhat recently got out of st. peters, i have a pretty mixed experience. i went there from kindergarten to 7th grade, and through all of that almost all of my teachers were great. they taught well, and minus a lot of the religious aspects, they were people who i came to look up to and feel safe around. i learned a lot through all my years there, but there were quite a few downsides to all of it. first off, there were many stupid rules. i know that there are many other ways i couldve worded it, but thats the simplest way to put it. i have a sibling who still goes there, and i get to see all of the new rules theyve been instating. why do they need to have clear water bottles? metal ones arent distracting if you think about it.. and thats just a single example. another thing is that, from my experience, there was a lot of
bigotry and hatred from the students that just went unnoticed by the teachers. i kid you not, i heard some boys use slurs and no one did anyone about it. on too many occasions i heard some of them making r@pe jokes.. i dont know how it is for the kids now there, but if things like this are still happening then i hope that the authority there at least is trying to put a stop to all of this. and one major thing that affected me while i was attending there was that everything was so religious to the point where it felt suffocating. if you are not catholic and are considering sending your children there, i would think a bit more before choosing sps.

to sum it all up- its inherently a good school, but there are quite a few problems inside of it.

If you are considering enrolling your child here, know that this school is extremely religiousto the point that nearly everything else, including academics, takes a back seat. Faith-based instruction is present in nearly every aspect of the day, and the administration appears to prioritize Catholic affiliation over teaching ability when hiring. In some cases, it seems the only qualification for certain teachers is that they are Catholic. While a few teachers are genuinely talented and caring, others are underqualified, making it a gamble each year who your child will get.

The overall environment is very much a sit down and be quiet model, with an overwhelming number of unnecessary and overly punitive rules. Average class size is about 30 students, far too high for quality, individualized instruction. In such large classes, studentsespecially those needing extra supportare easily overlooked.

One of the most troubling issues is the schools obsession with MAP testing scores. Their approach is aggressive, especially toward students born after March. If your childs birthday falls after March, expect them to recommend repeating a grade. They may frame it as being better academically or for maturity reasons, even if your child is doing well and shows age-appropriate maturity. The real motive is to give students another year to develop, which in turn raises test scores: a student at the 60th percentile could move to the 70th after repeating; one in the 90th might reach 95th. These retention decisions serve the schools statistics, not the childs best interests.

Even more concerning is how the school treats students who dont fit its performance mold. If a child has special needs or requires accommodations, support is minimal to nonexistent. Ive heard many reports from parents who felt the school was subtlyor not so subtlyencouraging them to withdraw their children. Inclusion simply isnt part of the schools culture.

In short, unless your top priority is an intensely Catholic environment above all elseand you are comfortable with a rigid, test-focused, overcrowded, and sometimes unwelcoming approachthere are far better educational options available for your child.

Please be aware that St. PETER'S is NOT equipped to accept children with special needs, though they may claim to when asked. We were immediately asked to submit requests to help the school gain state funding while the only actual (free) support came from outside of the school itself. We were given the cold shoulder when begging over and over for the privilege of enrolling our child, then run out in short order after they eventually, begrudgingly graced us with their acceptance. It was a nightmare and the administration couldn't have been less caring. Not what we expected from a group of self-proclaimed "people of God". Look elsewhere of you don't fit the Old Covington mold.

We LOVED St. Peter School! We have moved around the country and attended several Catholic schools. While no school is perfect, my children were both given the tools to achieve their personal best. I found Mrs. Roth to be exceptional, and Mrs. Bardy at the front office to be the epitome of a friendly school secretary. I felt my children were safe and truly appreciated at this school. We were disappointed when we found out we had to move again across the country ---- not every school is this caring.

As a parent of a child currently enrolled in this school I can say with experience that I wouldnt recommend the school if you are not Catholic. Aside from the financial aspect of having to pay more (if you are not catholic) the less than silent catholic religious superiority does tend to show it's ugly head. It

St. Peter Catholic School Operating with Excellent Teachers, Positive and Strong Principal Leadership. Every child receives the highest quality education with vaues, morals, ethics and respect for all humans and GOD. Thanks to A strong and Positive Leader "The Principal" . My Granddaughter has completed four years and will continue her education through one of the finest schools "St. Peter". A very proud Grandmother of an A-B honor student this education she received from St. Peter. St. Peter gave her a wonderful Academic Foundation. My heartful Thanks to Mrs. Barrouse "The Principal" you are a blessing to St. Peter and our children, keep up the great job. May God give her strength and courage to succeed as St. Peter Principal. We Love you and St. Peter Staff, Praying for God to keep our school safe and protect our great Leadership and Teachers. May God Bless Father Cooper to continue on his journey.
