My child attended kindergarten through second grade. We were not impressed with the teachers and staff through out but especially in first grade. Her teacher left half way through the year and turns out she wasnt teaching them anything so the last three months they had to have 6 specialist teachers in the classroom every day to catch the entire class up on what they werent learning the entire year so they could pass and go to third grade. It was a mess. The teachers look and act burnt out. Strong lack of communication. The bullying at this school is atrocious but I dont know if thats the schools fault or the caliber of kids attending that school. The fact this school is ranked high just goes to show the poor education in Louisiana as a whole. Dont send your kids here.

My brother went here with me and my other brother and he got held back because for no reason his grades were good and everything and he was in kindergarten. As for me I went there 4th grade until 7th because Im military someone told be they where gonna grape me if u know I ask my mom to ask if they could change my class and you know what they never did so I was stuck being uncomfortable all I could do was ignore but that was just my experience and the uniforms are awful. (They where suspended for 3 days or 1 week)

My children attended this school for a few years. They have learned so much, not just with math, reading etc. They're also being taught life skills as well, to be respectful and responsible individuals amongst other things. The school offers different programs for the students and also things to do with the family ( after school programs and family night events). The school is very good with communication about upcoming events, as well as cause for any concern, etc. They have several ways of keeping parents aware, and they utilize all of them! So, there's no way that you will not be notified. All of the teachers that taught my children were Excellent! They went above and beyond for their classes. If/ when I needed to speak with the teacher, they have always kept the lines of communication open and corresponded at a reasonable time ( before the end of the school). My family had a Great experience

Being a student here was hell, people vaping in the bathroom, kid made a school shooting threat once, racism, political indoctrination, and worst of all... six people were caught vaping. This school is equivalent to a public school, these reviews haven't been updated in five years.

Very effective and communicate very well through person, phone, email and letters. If you miss out on information you had to literally go out of your way to avoid it. They always have an effective plan of action for any situation and communicate plans with parents in a timely manner.

My son is in speech therapy and has been for years in just this one school year they took extra time and really worked with him and I have seen great improvements he pretty much doesnt even need speech anymore.

Amazing the difference I have seen in my children is amazing and the opportunities for extra curricular activities is awesome and at no cost. I couldnt have found a better school for my children. I commend the teacher and stuff on how involved they are and the measures they go to to accommodate students.

We love BCA! Moving to New Orleans my greatest concern was the schools. Thankfully we were able to get into BCA and have decided to settle on the West Bank due to how amazing this school is. I am so thankful to have a school that is just as good as the ridiculously expensive private schools that military can get their children in to.

I never truly realized how amazing this school is until I left. They excel academically and meet each child where they are at. They also assist parents. I love their FREE after school activities and the multiple activities offered to a holders. They understand education.

Seeing is believing. Come tour the school, take advantage of our open door policy. As you do, take note of the kids in the cafeteria, hallways, and classrooms. Do they seem happy? Are the teachers actively engaged? Are there any fights? Doors slamming? Please make sure to stop by the In School Detention room, observe the kids there. Are they working? Bet so. Walk past any of the enrichment classes and notice how completely engaged the students are. I remind you that we are a full inclusion school meaning students with special needs are in every general class setting. While these students may have occasional outbursts I am confident you will see them happy and learning to the best of their abilities.

The mission of BCA is to educate the military-child to fully achieve their personal and academic potential. I believe we are successful in this ongoing endeavor.

I am always open to suggestions for improvement. I request anyone with complaints to schedule a meeting with me. More importantly, if you know of any school as offering a service we do not please schedule a meeting to share your thoughts.

Finally, I along with the majority of employees have chosen BCA for our most important investment, the education of our own children. I am fortunate to have the luxury of options deciding where my children will attend school, my kids will attend BCA. I can offer no greater proof of my belief in this school and its staff.

Frequently, I am asked what I will do after I complete the Ph.D. program. Seldom are they surprised when I tell them the plan is to continue to work as BCA.

BCA has four full time and one part time counselors. Each counselor compliments respective grade levels, all are able to advocate school-wide. Additionally, we have two MFLCs, Military Family Life Counselors. We also employ a medical specialist from LSU Health and Sciences as a family psychologist.

Bullying was mentioned several times in the previous posts. This, along with the Guidance Department, is one of the departments I personally oversee. It would be remiss for me not to address further. I know how devastating bullying can be, how prevalent it remains in society. Let me be clear-I am constantly reminded of how far ahead BCA is regarding this issue. Belle Chasse Academy is the envy, indeed a model of how and what should be done to address bullying. We understand zero tolerance programs to be ineffective therefore we try to be as proactive as much as possible, and of course we respond accordingly.

There have been countless on-site trainings and guest motivational speakers. Any educational stakeholder, anyone reading this will easily conclude investments of this nature are far from inexpensive. Happy teachers equate to happy students. For many teachers happiness is manifested in confident lesson plans and being well versed in the latest research. Financially, the costs are significant. Please understand these are direct investments in your children. The extent to which the School Leader believes in education allows not only students but teachers to thrive. I also would like to share with you the astounding practice of BCA providing tuition assistance for any employee who is interested in advancing their education. Such compensation as extremely rare as it is generous. Many employees have used this opportunity to their full advantage earning advanced degrees. I too am using this program for continuous improvement by pursing a Ph.D. in education leadership.

My daughter loves Belle Chasse Academy. As a parent, I love it too. I really appreciate the school-to-home communication. I always know what's happening in my daughter's classroom. The teachers are positive and very responsive to parents. A big plus. Besides the professional & caring environment during the school day, she has been very involved in the 21st CCLC after school program. Last year, my daughter learned sign language and how to build/program robots after school. This was an amazing opportunity for her. We are so grateful our daughter attends this school.

My daughter attended BCA during her 7th and 8th grade years and blossomed socially and academically. She was afforded so many opportunities that she didn't receive at her pervious school so it was disheartening to see the multiple posts on June 18, 2015 that were totally falsified and obviously from a disgruntled parent(s).
I was fortunate to have time to volunteer in classrooms throughout the school. I never witnessed any of the lack of respect that was mentioned in the previous posts. Actually, the students were respectful and had good rapports with the teachers.
My family worked closely with the staff and we were always welcomed into the school. We have multiple friends that still have children that attend and they are also satisfied with the education BCA provides.
I implore parents to stop in and take a tour of the school if they have any doubts. I guarantee you will be impressed!

Some teachers are really kind and caring, and develop a relationship with the students that they can relate to. On the other hand, teachers like those are extremely hard to find. In some cases, kids bully the teachers to the point that they leave the room crying. However, some teachers bully students that they don't like. Lots give students test answers minutes before a test to boost their own scores.

There is no homework at all given for the most part. It doesn't prepare kids for high school, especially those that assign hours of homework each night.

Walking through this school when we moved here in 2011 was a very pleasant experience. The school official talking to us explained that the school had an advanced curriculum and excelling students. When the school year began, we found that this was quite the opposite. In the three years at this school, things went from bad to worse as my students progressed through the grades. Students are highly disrespectful to the teachers and to each other. The teachers show students the entire tests and answers beforehand hoping to lift themselves up. They have no investment in the well being of their class. They often teach way off topic and have units pertaining to personal interests rather than the state standards for that year. Kids can pretty much do whatever they want and if they get caught, they can get out of trouble with the most pathetic excuses. If teachers don't like a certain kid, they will do everything in their power to make them have a horrible experience. They will allow some kids to get away with anything while writing up others for minor dress code violations. While the lower grades (mainly sixth and below) are alright, anything above that is angry kids with drug issues looking to get into fights. The culture is based upon the principle that if you don't like someone, you fight them in the hallway. The counselors constantly drone on and on about bullying and having peace but it does nothing. Don't send your kids to Belle Chasse unless you want them to feel depressed and trapped.

Although the school has many programs intending to place good values in their students, the culture shown in the halls and classrooms is quite the opposite. Students and teachers (mostly in the older grades) are disrespectful and violent.

I have a son that is an alumni of BCA (K-8). Over the 9 yrs he attended, I have seen a lot of changes and every year things seem to get better and better. I currently have another son that is attending and will be in 6th next year, again he has been there since K. Picking schools can we stressful in LA but I am glad with our decision to send our boys to BCA. There are so many great teachers and staff there that really care about the students.

Belle Chasse Academy is a wonderful school. My son has been attending BCA since kindergarten is completing 6th grade this week. The Principal from day one states that BCA teachers and staff want "helicopter parents" -- parents are welcome to come in and "hover" any day of the school year. The administration wants parents to be involved. My son has excelled and BCA staff is who I have to thank for it. I only wish BCA went all the way through 12th grade! :)

After my experience with this school my child will never attend another charter school. There is zero accountability for the staff. None. I've never experienced such blatant racism, classism and just downright ignorance. The local school is a much better option.

This school is excellent! It is continuously striving for growth of the students and staff members. The teachers truly care about the students, and the administration works tirelessly to provide all members of the BCA community with the best educational, social, and emotional environment.

My daughter Keniesha Mitchell has attended Belle Chasse Academy from K-7 (presently attending ) I am so pleased with this school that I decided to stay here in Belle Chasse after my husband retired from the Navy. There has not been a time that I have requested something for the best of my child that they didn't take care of immediately. The staff is wonderful and friendly. I love this school!

My husband is active duty Marine Corps. I would advise any active duty military moving to the area to have your children attend the schools in Belle Chasse not BCA. My son attended BCA when it first opened for his Kindergarten and 1st grade before we relocated to another duty station. I gave the school the benefit of doubt because it was new. He attended summer school by our choice after his 1st grade and I don't feel that my son was challenged as far as the curriculum. Fast forward to his 8th grade we get stationed here again. The school has not changed. BCA didn't honor the Interstate Compact on Education for Military Children. My son was placed in a general math class when he had already taken Pre-Algebra in 7th grade at a great nationally ranked school in Northern Virginia. Of course we received PCS orders after he completed his 8th grade year. After attending BCA my son was ill-prepared for the top tier high school that he attends in Deerfield, IL. We have spent thousands of dollars for tutoring for him to meet the requirements for high school math and science. His 8th grade year was a waste and it set really set him behind.

I am a former student of Belle Chasse Academy and I would highly recommend this school to any parent looking at where to place your child. First of all the school is located in a low crime area and is also behind the security of the NAS JRB Belle Chasse base gates. The school has made tremendous improvements with not only the curriculum but also the way that certain things need to be dealt with. I, a former student, made many academic improvements in the 9 years that I was at the school. The school has a zero tolerance for bullying in which they strongly enforce. The school has the most modern technology to help educate your child. The teachers are the best around. The overall experience at BCA is wonderful.
