5 because I think the teachers need to focus more on actually teaching the students to understand the techniques of the curriculum before moving onto new material and STOP teaching them to only memorize things, that's not teaching. They will learn something on Monday, quizzed on Tuesday and on to something new on Wednesday, that's not effective and I'd like to see this changed.

The homework they send home the children don't understand how to do it. Like how is that possible? Homework is supposed to reinforce what you "learned" in class but "we" the parents are having to do hardcore teaching lessons that can make homework last longer than 2 hrs. Homework should only last 1 hr no more than an additional 45 mins if in higher grades.

The teachers here are under a principal who has a prison warden mentality. She's cold, inattentive, uncaring and puts a lot of pressure on the teachers which make them have similar traits towards their students. Most of the teachers at this school are cold and lack concern they are just focused on cramming lessons in without concern if the students understands or not. They have a "sink or swim" mentality with theses students. My child was not doing well in math and was never told by the teacher that she was struggling. I noticed her papers had many incorrect answers and she was struggling at home. Once I inquired to the teacher via email, then she stated yes she noticed that.

To an extent I will partially agree only because yes they do want them to be of good character, but they need to also focus more on stronger academics from the teachers to actually teach and not expect the parents to finish their job at home.

It's effective to a minimum only because the principal is a bully towards her staff which is why the teacher turn-over rate is extremely high. I'm not sure who she knows in JPPSS that keeps her with this school but she needs to be at a low performing high school or college where her lack in people skills may be more appreciated and effective.

If your child falls behind then too back out they go is what happens here.

can't say yes or no .. no experience with this. I don't think they really have these issues most of the students are well behaved here.

This school is average in comparison to the other elementary advanced schools. The principal is ok. She comes across as very fake. I've never felt any sincerity from her. The Parent in charge of Pto seems to be overwhelmed yet refuses to take suggestions. She seems to be offended instead. The Pto is definitely like a click. The man over the crawdads club is so rude!!! The kids don't have books to bring home besides social studies and science which is crazy since the main focus of the school Math and Reading/English. Some teachers there are amazing while others seem to be there for a pay check and have their picks and chooses on who they like and don't like. Positive side is my daughter has for the most part had the amazing teachers. However the teacher turnover is horrible! They lose teachers like a kindergartner looses teeth! That speaks volumes of the administration! If Ms. Covey leaves that would be a disaster! She's the best 4th grade/math teacher there!

The school is ok. The environment is not a friendly place to learn. The principle should be the dean at someone's college instead of principal of an elementary school. She does not interact with the kids. The only time she does is if they are being brought to her office to be disciplined! I have personally watched a child approach her to ask her a question and she never once looked at him she kept her eyes glued to her cell phone. Because the principal has a warden like, unfriendly attitude I have found some of the teachers follow in her footsteps. The office is just as unfriendly the secretary makes you feel like you are trespassing if you go to the school for any reason!!! With positive leadership this school could be GREAT!!!!! For now it's just ok.

GREAT SCHOOL with great people as Teachers and Staff. Welcoming and friendly environment for students to learn. Parental involvement is encouraged and embraced. I wish the school was K-12.

The principal has a horrible attitude and leadership skills. The office is just as unfriendly as her. She is very rude and seems to like chaos. This school is good only because the students are on an advanced curriculum and are well behaved. The PTO is like a click of mean girls. I think more parents would be involved if they felt welcomed. I guess it's better than sending your child to a regular public school.

We love Marrero Academy. The teachers are really good for the most part. I feel good about sending my child there.
