SLKF has done wonders for my child. He was falling behind and struggling at his prior school. Since he started at SLKF he has been thriving and meeting all of his developmental markers. He comes home happy and eager to talk about his day. He has made a lot of great friends. He loves his teachers, as do I. I am always greeted with a friendly smile and I'm never made to feel like a bother if I have questions about my child's progress. Overall, I am pleased we found this school.

The curriculum is banal and consist of worksheets and non-innovative ways of thinking taught by teachers who hate their jobs.

I always got the impression that the more experienced teachers did not want to be there and were miserable. The younger teachers did not seen have any guidance or much training.

Emphatic no. The principal is lazy and is well-practiced politician-speak to get her way. Does not care about concerns of patients. Pre-K is run by a "Southern Belle" drill sergeant who is obnoxious and ignorant- though like most ignorant people, she acts as though she is the most intelligent of them all.

To completely say SLKF is a TOTAL nightmare is a bit harsh, to say the least. My child happens to be one of the challenging students that are claimed to have no resources, and if it weren't for the staff and principal working with our family from day one, we would probably be lost. Behavior wise we have always listened to what the school says and it seems to be working of us. How can you expect a teacher to wrangle kids that aren't being taught proper behavior by their parents? Stuff happens and you have to chaulk injuries to just that, stuff happening. The teachers (which are all the same faces I've seen for years) are loving, and genuinely care about how a student is flourishing. They are not uptight, they are down to earth, nonjudgemental, and have a sense of humor. Some are better at hiding their bad days than others, but all in all they do care.
From what I have gathered through the years, the teachers and admin want the parents to be involved here, more than some wish.
How many schools do you see that celebrate the holidays like this school? With Halloween, the Fair, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mardi Gras, they bring the whole school together like a family and try to make sure NO child is left out. The field trips are always fun and educational.
As far as academia, my child reads above their grade level, and is excelling in mathematics. Over the summer there was a required reading assignment, along with a recommended reading list, and a packet filled with an assortment of subjects for them to complete.
The teachers there are not going to do the at home prepping for the students that the parents should be doing.
I will say the school is a inconsistent with policies, but how can you be a total tyrant about enforcing them when half of the parents refuse to check their email, or don't follow protocol anyway. They do try, but how can you keep fighting people that don't want to listen? They seem to pick their battles.
There are always things that could be better here for the amount of money we pay for tuition, but all in all, you have to figure what works for your family. Not every school is going to be a fit for every child.

If there is proof of this school standardizes score being subpar I'd really love for someone to post info on how to find them.

This school is a nightmare! The principal tells parents whatever they want to hear to keep enrollment up. Classes are filled with children who have learning disabilities and behavior problems with no resources to serve them. Thus the teaching staff is more like glorified babysitters. There are constantly children out of their desks and running wild in the classrooms. Several times there were instances where children were injured during class. This obviously pulls focus from learning and in the end only half to three quarters of the state requirements are met each year. This results in poor standardized tests results for the school. The philosophy is to keep parents happy with good grades even if the children did not earn them or learn the material. The principal is aware of the issues and chose to get rid of the honor roll for lower school when parents noted the bad grades yet everyone made honor roll.
There is nothing consistent at this school. There are both high teacher and high student turnover. Every year there are new teachers being promoted from PreK to teach with no mentoring or experience. Every year there are new programs implemented which are usually discarded mid year. A small school usually has a pretty consistent student base, but students come and go constantly.
On top of all of the problems academically and socially parents pay tuition and fees in excess of almost all of the other Catholic schools. The principal doesn't fully disclose this when you tour and so most new parents are shocked to get a fee bill of $800-900. Then once the school year begins parents are asked for additional funds for folders and reading books.
Please, please do not send your child here. It is a waste of money and your child deserves better.

Never send my child back for summer camp! Rude staff. I wanted to get the receipt and tax ID for summer camp for last year. I called and emailed by my edu email address, but I have never received any response from the person who is in charge of this. I called the main office, the woman who answered was mean and inpatient. My child doesn't go to this school, but only for summer camp since the location is convenient for us. But I will never bring her back, because I don't think the staff should treat parents like this way and I don't want to get this treatment again.

Tuition is very high and over rated. It's all about money. The principal is uncooperative and political! She supports her family and friends businesses. She installed a water system in the school and raised the tuition again. My daughter education was poor last year and did not pass an entrance exam for another school. Look elsewhere.

After 3 years I have given up on this school. I read the complaints from previous parents 2 years ago and tried to work through the administrative and faculty problems. The principal surrounds herself with her family and friends that are on the payroll and listens to no one else. Cronyism is rampant throughout the school structure. Disdain for parents and their kids are obvious. Kindergarten and first graders(especially boys) cannot read by midterm and are routinely sent to Crane Rehab for additional tutoring at considerable expense to parents. More than one third of the first grade boys this year were privately tutored. There is no counselor ,liaison for parent/teacher relations, or parent input allowed whatsoever. Room mothers are handpicked by the faculty and parent involvement is limited. Cafeteria invoices sent to parents with the threat that your child will have no lunch if not paid by a certain date. Consider closely that you will be constantly asked to pay fundraiers, help with the numerous fairs and wil have no voice in which to advocate for your child. You are treated as a child and you pay for it.

I have to agree that the woman, Mary, used to teach as Asst Pk 3 was horrible, did a lot of yelling & Beth was not much better, with her better than thou attitude. School tuition & meals increased every yr., pre-order lunches mth in advance & if you child forgets lunch at home they cannot buy a school lunch... They give them bread & cheese, just like that, nothing else. Better, older teachers quitting or let go, principle does pick & choose, parents disgusted pulling kids out. No school counselor, & if your child has any learning issues there is no help available with the high cost of tuition. And teachers are always right in principle's eyes, any time there is a parent /teacher/student conflict. It's the parents that make SLKF survive & tolerable.

Grandchild bitten twice in the same day by the same kid. This is unacceptable it looks as though an animal attacked. My grandchild is bitten just about everyday. That vampire has a serious problem & so does this school.

There are a great deal of nice/attentive teachers at SLKF, but the administration is awful. I really had high hopes for this school when we started, but, we had to pull our kid(s) out based on the following things: (1) Fees/tuition much higher than other comparable Catholic schools, fees were ridiculous and were obviously used to offset the "not raising tuition this year" statement; (2) zero feedback from administration during the year; (3) constant mishandling of checks giving to the accountant (would be deposited 4-5 months after giving it to them); (4) Many teachers/staff we talked to were extremely unhappy, especially in the nursery Pre-School, many of them were looking for other employment opportunities this coming year. I believe the Principal is a great person and means well, but she has surrounded herself with mostly family members and friends for her administration and top aides. The school has completely lost direction, which it had a few years ago, and it's a shame because I liked the school and still love many of the teachers there. It's not terrible, but could be so much more.

It saddens me to think that the rumors were true but once again a lot of students that are entering high school this year from St. Louis did not get into the high school of their choice due to not being prepared. You would think with all the money and fees you have to pay your child would be set.

My daughter just finished PK4, this was our first year at SLKF and we are happy. Most kids were here from PK3 (wonder who left) and the class was full but the teachers worked wonderfully with them. I'm not catholic (by choice) but there is nothing bad I can say about the school or teachers or the church. I was hooked by the principal, as long as the school's educational and discipline concepts remain the same what Mrs. Schott represents, we are here to stay. Those parents I talked to did get their kids into their choice of high school. When my kid had some issues, didn't want to go to school as she said nobody liked her, all the teachers (even in aftercare) and the principal went out of their way to find out what was wrong. They helped me identifying the cause - my child's weird way of grieving of our lost dog. My honest 4-yr old was making up stories about class mates and school to get attention - for a totally different reason. The teachers all worked with me in helping her through that stage. Something to look into for other parents before jumping the gun...

To the January 24,2011 post,yes I posted it. First off,I never once stated "Ms.Beth and Ms. Mary teaches this current school year." Secondly, "I never stated they shoved MY child." Stop trying to read into things that are not there. Needless to say, if they did shove my child proper action would have been taken immediately. Hmm, I wonder why they are no longer teachers. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Parents who have pulled their child out have come to me, as well as some of the ones that are still there has ALL said some of the same things about them. As a result, some of the parent's children are still there,while others have indeed pulled their child out. Yes, you probably have felt "heartfelt and positive" from them because you were stuck up their rear ends. Try talking to some of the current PK4 parents whose children were in PK3 last year. If they have not yet pulled their child out,they will be out at the end of this year. Several of the older children CANNOT even get into their first choice middle/high school because this school has not prepared them well enough to pass the entrance exam. I am entitled to my opinion just as well as you are.

My daughter is in the Pre-K 3 class currently and she is thriving. I am very impressed with the thorough work they are doing and have nothing bad to say. Everyone at the school knows my childs name and say hello regularly. I agree with last poster - if your child was being pushed and yelled at, why was she still there??

I have two children at SLKF, the youngest was in PK3 with Ms. Beth and Ms. Mary. My experiences with all the teachers at this school have been positive and heartfelt. Everyone there goes above and beyond for the sake of the children. Two issues were mentioned in the January 24,2011 post that don't add up. First of all, if your child is being shoved and screamed at all day, why would he/she still be there? Secondly, Ms. Beth and Ms. Mary no longer teach the PK3 class as of this current school year.

This school is horrible. The Pre K 3 teachers Ms. Beth and Ms. Mary tried shoving the little 3-year-olds,they are horrible. I wish I would have found out about this school a long time ago. When you go there for the orientation, they put on a role like they're all nice but once you leave your child there,they scream at the kids. They always raise the tuition every year. They always want money for the school. I can't wait to get my daughter out of this school. All of these reasons are why more and more people are pulling their kids out of this school.

One teacher is fired or quits every year! Uniforms change every year! Principle tries to overcharge on every item she can, example, this year parents were charged $200 for $75 worth of school supplies.

St. Louis King of France has students from 6 weeks old up to 7th grade. We are a Catholic school run like an independent school. We focus on educating the whole person, spiritually, academically, and physically. We even have a pilot program in our cafeteria run by Ochsner Hospital! I love that SLKF is small like a family and everyone knows my children by name. I love the individual and personal attention. The teachers allow for lots of creativity in their classrooms. Take a tour of the school and you can see how unique the school is.

I believe St Louis King of France is a great school. The class size is perfect for an excellent learning environment. The principal is collaborative and is willing to work with parents and their concerns. Keep up the good work!!
