Wow, the reviews of WHS were so poor that I felt obligated to leave a review. I had an extremely positive experience at WHS and I felt incredibly prepared for college. I attend an Ivy League university and my peers and I feel better prepared than some of my Peers from Nobles, BB&N, Milton, Philips Andover, Choate, etc. WHS offers an excellent selection of AP classes with amazing teachers, if you think your child is not well prepared (which so many are not) it is a reflection on them not the school. There is a very large amount of students who put minimal effort into class and therefore get nothing out of it, perform poorly on the SAT, and have trouble being accepted into universities. There is also a cohort of students who truly value their education and make the most of their experience at WHS and go on to great universities. Students and parents need to take some initiative and stop blaming the school for their own shortcomings. Thank you to all my teachers at WHS for providing me with the best education and experience I could have asked for.

The COVID 19 situation really showed just how poor this school is. Kids got virtually no work, no lessons and lost out from March on. WPS were so unprepared and took weeks to get any type of schedule in place. Kids were told work was optional, grades would be a Pass or Fail, with passing being a D or better. A difficult time for many schools but not all. Watertown students absolutely fell behind during this time and they were already behind most schools anyways.

Some good teachers but more often we have experienced teachers that are not very good, sometimes not professional, not engaged, not helpful. etc. More than most districts. Also finding a lot of staff and teachers in the schools that are related which leads me to believe people are hired for the wrong reasons.

Our experience at WHS is that it is not a community that encourages tolerance and acceptance. There is an ongoing issue with racism, bullying, etc.

School leadership in Watertown is horrendous. Town leaders are to blame also. There is an incredibly low standard in this town for education.

Kids with learning difficulties basically just get pushed through the system. Our Special Education Department is awful. Lots of staff members that have no experience or credentials to be working in this field. The kids suffer big time.

A very poor school with extremely low standards. Would never recommend the Watertown High or any school in Watertown to any family that is serious about education.

Leadership is lacking at the high school. Our school is very much reactive instead of being proactive.

Totally disagree. I think kids that are average get a lot less than the top students and certainly the students that are required to get extra services.

There are several incidents that come to mind with this including a suicide. Students have left WHS because of conflicts and I don't think our school leaders handle conflicts well.

We get homework but we seem to lag behind in academics to many other high schools. Kids that don't do homework don't really have any consequences even if they play sports.

There is no character building at all. Some kids are involved in some clubs/groups that involve the community but overall there is not a big emphasis on character building. The school is in survival mode most of the time and so are the students.

I give this school a C-. It offers the basics but not much more.
Very discouraged about this school and the overall environment. The school itself is in horrible condition and has been close to losing accreditation because of that. Our high school ranks over 200 on a list of 340 which puts us in the company of Springfield, Taunton, Chicopee, and other not so favorable places while all the neighboring communities are in the top 50. Course offerings are slim, sports are very limited, there is a party culture at the school that seems to be acceptable. By 9th grade many of the top students have left for either private schools or their families have moved to stronger school districts. That is pretty discouraging too. The school lacks any sense of community.

Principal lacks experience and competency. Rules seem to not apply to parents who speak out and students who play sports. Certain rules for certain people, not every student is treated the same. Principal doesn't play fair.

This school is a joke. it doesn't teach you anything. they only care about sports.
