Lexington high School is a terrible high School because they are refusing to be interested in allowing all students in grades 9-12 to opt-out of their tryannical 1 to 1 Chromebook policy and be allowed to use their personal laptop computers during the school day because the Chromebooks are very cheaply manufactured and they are not very durable in my own opinion

This school has outstanding education, among the top in the state. Music, sports, theater are highly regarded.
The school has a lot of pressure from parents, students and teachers -- so it is stressful for students and not great for mental health.
Often parents send one child to the high school but not others, due to negative environment.
Also the school is overcrowded and worn down, so the town is going to build a new school over next 5 years. There will be a lot of construction nearby. Costs of property taxes will be quite high as a result. It should be very nice after 2030 if you can afford it.
Finally, the town has enabled a lot of new construction in the town to support MBTA housing, so there may be crowding in the future as well.
Put three children through the school. The academic preparation was excellent. They all say students there were outstanding.
However, none enjoyed the experience nor would they recommend it. A good place to be from, but not good to be at.

My advice is not to take French at this school. The Dean and teachers are not interested in your childs success or their ability to speak French after graduating high school. The primary objective of one teacher in the department is to impart her sense of social justice and political views on the class, while another teacher wants to fail the class so they can learn that life is hard and develop persistence/ resilience. The dean refuses to acknowledge their is an issue. Thankfully they hired a native French speaking teacher in the last year that makes me hopeful that things will improve.

The school is literally falling apart. It's so disappointing that a town as affluent as Lexington cannot get its' act together around a new high school. There is no room to eat in the cafeteria. Teachers are generally good, but there are still teachers who are uninspiring and just don't know how to connect with teenagers. Some teachers frankly expect college level work, particularly in regards to submission of English papers.
With regards to moving to Lexington for the schools: Caveat emptor. Teacher quality is inconsistent, both academics and sports are extremely competitive (in a 2000 person school many kids don't make the cut) and there has been no movement to really expand athletic opportunities given how many kids there are. This is a really progressive town filled many who could afford to send their kids to private school but choose to send them to public school. Lexington schools should be better. The high test scores and good placement come in spite of the schools; I would estimate that at least 80% of parents have college degrees, and that at least half hold advanced professional or graduate degrees. They actively nurture their kids for success, and there is a thriving industry of kids activities in this town, and most of these, too, are mediocre.

It´s more of a hardcore private school than a public school. While this will certainly fit a small, incredibly motivated minority, Lexington High is flooded with students whose parents expect the school to be a hands off ivy producing machine for their child. For every student that gets into Ivy this school produces, there are at least a hundred who leave feeling defeated and depressed from the cutthroat academic environment and homework load that eats their personal life. Those considering moving to the town exclusively for the school system, don´t let yourself be dazzled with test scores and seriously consider the pros and cons of the high achieving and soul crushing environment created by Lexington High School.

We have a high performer and for him it is a super great fit. Very strong teachers (very), challenging curriculum, and lots of clubs and activities (over 100). His friends seem "normal" and decent.

It is a school with a lot of kids of first gen immigrants and so a fair share of tigers. Many kids are aiming for super selective schools. This has its own set of issues and its not clear this is a good fit for our 2nd child. But so far we are more than satisfied. No school is perfect but LHS is a solid school with a lot to offer.

as in any school, some are good and some are not so good. I absolutely love the dean and guidance counselors that are assigned to my son. they are a great resource for my son academically as well as personally.

they encourage independence in the kids which is good. They try to wean the parents off, which I totally agree. But at the same time, they aren't mean about it, they work with you and guide effectively.

Dean is great as well as the guidance counselors. However, if you are talking sports, the leadership is as bad as it can possibly get. doesn't care about the kids, only the standard rules. in my opinion anyone can read rules and regurgitate them. it takes a real leader to motivate kids and get them excited to play for their school. I find the school is more worried about the MIAA rules, (perhaps because the AD got in big trouble a few years back) but this doesn't help the kids at all. It's a paperwork and punishment mentality. May have to pull my son shortly. Thank god he's not as sensitive as some of the other kids though. I see some other kids losing their spirit and just don't care anymore. You can't blame the kids.

I am pleasantly surprised in regards to the academics. I find the school flexible and easy to deal with. My son is only a freshman and i'm keeping my fingers crossed. He's smart but not academically focused and thought he would struggle more but he's doing well. (As and Bs) The only exception is the sports management. They DO NOT care about the kids (not speaking about the individual coaches) or the sports itself. I feel like the coaches have no authority. All decisions made my AD (even little ones) . It's really too bad because they have talented kids. If they were fostered, they could go places.

I am an current student at lhs. It is extremely stressful and the pressure is on. Kids easily fall into stress, anxiety, and depression. Some teachers barely know how to teach properly and effectively. However, the student body is extremely welcoming, friendly, and sometimes has the typical high school cliques. The health department and guidance department are both home to some of the best people in the school. The student needs to have to confidence and willingness to talk and reach out, not to fall down softly(or hard). It's a big school. Just need to get used to it. Though lhs is tough, there are wonderful teachers and some that aren't so great. You just have to get lucky.

It's funny that most of the negative reviews are also ungrammatical. This suggests, unsurprisingly, that the parents' education level will have some bearing on their perception of this school.

We moved to historic and expensive Lexington, MA for the famous school system. The middle schools are great. However, the high school is a major disappointment. Half of the honors/AP teachers can not or would not teach. Our AP Bio and Honor's Algebra 2 teachers are so bad that everyone complains but the department heads defend them and berate the parents and kids. LHS is great ONLY because of the great parent and student body. If you have an average kid and not the money to hire a tutor, your child may sink and nobody would notice.
