This school is not as perfect as it comes off. During my time at Mardela is was very racist and unwelcoming to minorities and those with disabilities. Those I will say a few staff members really care for our disabled and minorities students that isn't the majority. Its worst of all when our principal Mrs. Hastings, was both dismissive of bullying, racism and discrimination but also gave certian students special treatment because she 'liked' them. It wouldn't be a suprise to hear she prefers the young men to her female students in any situation where she must choose a side. There was once a situation where a girl student, freshman by the way, who was sexually harassed and the boy got nothing more than in school detention for a day. He didn't even have to apologize. It is for reasons like this that I recommend being prepared for this type of treatment at this school and that it will take much fight to change anything

This is a very cliquish school, not just students but staff and parents as well. They do not like 504/IEP students. There are some good teachers, but not all are. The administrators are terrible. They are really good at sweeping things under the rug so it doesnt get out and ruin the reputation. Bullying is actually an issue that they do not address. There is a lot of favoritism towards any child that plays sports, especially softball. They have had a lot of safety issues over the years and its not necessarily handled in the best way, in my opinion. They send emails but the communication is still lacking. Some of the staff has had what I would say is odd relationships with some of the students.

School is a joke stay as far away from this place as you can. Trust me they can't even keep guns out of the school.

Super school. I am a grandmother and my granddaughter is very active in band, etc. She loves the school and is already saying how much she will miss it when she graduates inTHREE YEARS. Band director is a+.

I could write so much about this school but it would be considered slanderous. I attended this school and all I have to say is they have a really lack anti bullying policy (it was borderline disturbing). Its good if you are able to make it into clubs or teams but if you aren't able to you are going to have a harder time. Personally to improve this school give equal opportunities for students to get into these clubs and teams, less time making sure a student passes and more time to make sure they learn. For what it's worth there are teachers who mean well out of the majority and that's the saving grace of the school. My original post was going to include more but I will not want it to seem slanderous.
