Our experience at SJRCS was positive until we discovered that our child's learning disability and need for additional reading support had not been identified. Once we raised our concerns, we felt the administration and teacher were unable to provide the level of support or resources needed to help our child make progress toward grade-level reading. We were informed that the school did not have the resources to meet our child's educational needs, which ultimately led us to transfer schools in the middle of the school year. Based on our experience, families whose children require specialized learning support or significant reading intervention may want to carefully consider whether SJRCS has the resources that will meet their child's needs.

I have two daughters at St. John. My first started in kindergarten and she is currently in 6 grade and my second started in 2nd grade and now in the 4th grade. The administration, staff and teachers give updates on students conducts and progress, and communicate any concerns. The school is christ centered, and families are welcome and encouraged to partnered and participate in their children's learning and progress. The experience here over the years has been a blessing for my girls so far. They love going to school everyday.

As an alum of SJRCS, I was welcomed immediately into the school family from administration, teachers, aides, staff, and current families. I've had many opportunities to get myself and my family involved in the school community, which has helped the transition to this school be flawless! The teachers are AMAZING and my child is learning so much already. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone!

We have been fully impressed with the early childhood programs at SJRCS. The instructional staff is experienced and caring and recognizes the individual growth of each child. In addition, children are provided age appropriate faith based instruction which was another important criteria for us in choosing a school program for our children. Parents are welcomed partners in the school program and we volunteer across several areas of the school to support the wonderful work happening here!

Our family joined SJRCS last year and we are thrilled with the high quality education that our children receive. They are enthusiasitic about attending school and learning. Our children have come to enjoy reading and math instead of shying away from them when they are challanged. The admission process takes some time but was very easy to follow all the steps needed. The admission coordinator helped guide us through each step.

We love SJRCS! My husband and I had our children in the public school system and were not happy. We wanted our children in a Catholic school but were waiting until middle school. Virtual learning during Covid opened our eyes to realize that our children's education was less than adequate. Our neighbors had their children at St. John's and they encourage us to take a look. We changed schools in September 2020 and our children are thriving. Smaller classes, better curriculum, Catholic based education and excellent staff have made all the difference.

My daughter attended last year and my other daughter started pre-k this year. We had a wonderful experience last year and are off to a great start for this year. My daughter's teacher was always in contact with us parents and provided a great overview of what was being taught. A quality Catholic education is something that is greatly important to our family and St. John is a great fit for our needs. I would highly recommend the school!

We have had a lot of friends and co-workers tell us about St. John Regional Catholic School and how wonderful it is. This is our daughters first year in pre-k 3 and I have to say it has been an awesome experience so far. The communication from the teacher is amazing! I know what my daughter is doing from 10 minutes after she arrives at school and throughout the day. It is great to be able to see her throughout the day learning and interacting with the other children. She loves to come home and tell me all about her day, and is asking if she can go to school everyday (she wants to go on Saturday and Sunday too).

We love St. John Regional Catholic School (SJRCS). Our daughter has been attending SJRCS since kindergarten. The teachers and staff are amazing. They really care for the kids they teach and work with. In addition to wonderful classroom experiences they offer many extra curricular activities which my daughter loves to participate in.

The campus is safe and secure. The students are staff are like extended family. Additionally the religion courses are built into the school day and continue to support our Catholic foundation and beliefs We could not image sending our daughter anywhere else..

We made a hard decision when looking at private schools, no one in my family ever considered private school - in fact, I have six family members that are all public-school teachers. The hardest part for us was that we had preconceived notions on what "private school" and even worse "catholic school" would be. Our children were having trouble at home and with peers, so we made the choice to just "try it for a year."
After the first year, we are re-enrolling and will keep attending. Our children are making vast social improvements and are now ahead of their peers in the quality of their education. Homework is heavy, but both the parents and children get used to the workload and my children are thriving on routine.
There were initial behavioral issues with my children starting the school year in such a new environment, but the teachers and school counselor were very supportive and helpful to the needs of my children as they transitioned. Overall it has been a very positive experience and we continue to have our children attend.

We have been going to this school since my oldest was in Kindergarten and she is now in 7th grade. Our other two kids go here as well- one is in 3rd grade and the other is in Kindergarten. The way this school handled the pandemic was incredible- the kids never missed a day of instruction. The leadership at the school is also outstanding and the teachers are all fantastic. I would highly recommend this school to anyone.

My son has been attending St. John's for 2 years. He has had a wonderful experience. He is in the 7th grade. He has a couple of Learning Disabilities. He has dyslexia and dysgraphia. And he has also been diagnosed with ADHD. The school has been wonderful accommodating him and supporting his education plan. The staff has been very understanding that sometimes he likes to stand and do his work (mainly due to his ADHD). They have given him the small testing environment (for standardized testing) and extra time (for both standardized testing and regular tests) that he needs to be successful. The communication between the teachers, guidance counselor and assistant principal have been great. They are quick to return emails or phone calls and help point you in the right direction.

There are times that they do give a lot of homework. I think this is teaching the students a great life skill about time management. And the understanding that some skills need extra time to be understood and mastered.

I would highly recommend this school.

This is our third year at St. Johns, my daughter started in kindergarten. The school has been amazing through the pandemic. The school has helped us through getting my daughter tested for a learning disability and has made the process easy. My daughter loves going to school at St. Johns. I love the families and how involved and nice everyone is as well!!

This is our first year at SJRCS and our family has been very pleased with our experience thus far. For my 5th grader, the school does a great job challenging her and instilling a sense of personal responsibility in her for her own school work. I have a 1st grader as well, and he is so excited to actually be IN the classroom and sit at desks where he can face other students and talk at lunch! That seems like a small thing, but it is a big deal after his kindergarten experience. While the decision to switch schools was a difficult one, we are very happy with the decision.

I can not speak highly enough of St. John's. Our daughter started Prek-4 during unusual times of Covid in 2020. While other schools shifted to virtual learning only for their students, SJRCS pivoted and strategized to be in person full time (with the option for virtual learning for those who felt uncomfortable in in-person environment). They safely and successfully provided a safe and structured learning environment for our children during a scary and unsure time. The teachers are compassionate and dedicated and we are thrilled we have found a place we feel confident in sending our children.

St John Regional Catholic School has become our 2nd family! We started our son in PreK3 so that he could be in a great preschool program for the full day and always assumed we'd move him over to public school for kindergarten but we are so impressed with how well he's been taken care of, he'll be starting kindergarten there in the fall and our daughter will be starting preK3 at the same time! Our son's confidence has grown immensely and my husband and I are so impressed with what he has learned so far. The teachers are so incredibly kind and skilled at what they do. We also love that religion is built into the curriculum - it's given our son an added appreciation for his surroundings and he enjoys going to church more because of what he's learned at school. We can't imagine our children going anywhere else!

The students participate in community service projects starting in pre-K. The older students mentor the younger ones in reading, religion and community service. They show respect for each other as well as their teachers.

My 2 boys have been going to SJRCS for 8 years now and we couldn't be happier! Compared to our friends' experiences at our local public schools it seems that the boys are learning more, are more respectful and are able to communicate effectively with their teachers and peers. This was especially evident when in mid-March we had to start online learning rather quickly (we were told there was no more school on Thursday, we picked up the boys books, supplies on Friday and they were online on Monday). It took the public schools over 2 weeks to get online. The teachers and administration was available via Zoom, email and phone if we needed. I felt very supported by the school and the boys actually did very well despite the change in learning environment. I am so happy that we are going to SJRCS and would recommend it to anyone who wants to raise happy, productive and respectful children.

My children just completed K and 3rd and so far the amount of homework has been completely reasonable. Do my children like doing homework? Absolutely not. For K they have either a math or language art sheet each night and they are to practice reading. For 3rd, the homework consists of a spelling exercise nightly and either math or language arts. There are weekly spelling tests, and a reasonable rotation of tests on math, comprehension, and or vocab. There is also a book report due each trimester.

We have been at SJRCS since my 3rd grader was in PK3 and have found that the teachers have always been engaged with the kids. Most actively try to provide kids who need more challenging work with extra resources. The majority of teachers are excellent with quick response times if you have a question or issue.

While I do not have personal experience with this, I do have friends who feel that their children's learning differences have been well supported. As a small private school, SJRCS does not obviously have many of the resources for learning differences that are available at public schools. I have heard that the administration is usually very transparent when discussing the types of learning issues that the school can handle.

In the 6 years we have been at SJRCS, our children have never mentioned any issues of bullying with their peers. I volunteer extensively at the school and have not seen any evidence of bullying. Even when there is a behavioral issue within the class or unkind words have been said, the teachers are very quick to handle the situation. The only reason I didn't assign a "strongly agree" rating is because we have not had personal experience with this.

Our experience has been great! Both of my kids are doing well both academically and socially. When the pandemic struck, the school seemlessly switched to a virtual learning model over the weekend. While public schools were closed in our area for two weeks at the beginning of the pandemic, we started new material the following Monday. The teachers have worked really hard to make sure that the kids continued to learn during distance learning.

SJRCS has been a blessing for my child. She transferred to SJRCS in third grade, and was behind in reading and writing skills. Not only did her teachers get her on the right track, but they instilled a lifelong love for learning. This is the best decision I could have made for my daughter. Our family has had a wonderful experience at SJRCS. We originally chose SJRCS because it was a Catholic school but we have stayed at SJRCS because of the academics, character-building and overall great experience. Both of our children started SJRCS in Kindergarten. We have one recent graduate now doing well in HS and another child who will graduate from SJRCS in a few years. We have been extremely pleased with our time at SJRCS.

The school is a parochial school. Students must be admitted. Learning differences are avoided by not admitting these students when they note such differences. It is unfair to rate this school against any schools that admit all students.

I am writing this review with a heavy heart, but would feel gulity if another parent made the decision to attend St. Johns without asking the right questions and end up scarring their child.
First, let me say that some of the teachers and aides do their very best at educating and fostering the learning of every child. There are teachers who bend over backwards to bring the textbooks alive -moving book learning to experience learning.
The major problem at this school as I see it is the leadership. The teachers are terrified of the principal. They hedge what they say about your kid to YOU because they are afraid of the repercussions.
I could go on, but more examples would only frighten you and that isn't the goal of my review. My goal is to prepare you to ask the questions I didn't before attending the school. DO NOT ever be fooled by the Blue Ribbon honor. This is YOUR kid, no one will ever ask you if your kid went to a blue ribbon school on their high school or college application.
Here are the questions I would have asked:
How much turnover have you had with teachers within a school year?
How many teachers have left in the middle of a school year?
How long has each teacher taught at St. Johns at each grade year?
What's the schools position on bullying? What protocols are in place to deal with such incidents?
How do teachers handle inclusiveness in the classroom? What are some examples that invite inclusiveness with all children of different races and economic backgrounds?
How does the school handle autistic students? Do they have autistic students in the classroom?
How is fundraising conducted?
How many times a year are parents asked to fund raise or contribute to fundraising for the school?
What outside and/or extracurricular activities does the school facilitate?
How are gifted students challenged?
How many students that are enrolled for a specific grade year, actually complete it and return the following year?
What lessons and/or exercises are in place that not only teach the Catholic lessons and teachings, but to use those values without involving raising money?
Again, my goal isn't to deter you - just help you be better prepared. Don't make choosing a school for your kid about the ribbon, like I did, make it about find the BEST school home - one that nurtures their brain, heart, and spirit.

I would highly recommend this school for any family. My children attended SJRCS since Kindergarten and recently graduated. The school provides many opportunities for any child to learn. The technology available to them beats any school around all while they are learning values that are lacking in so many areas in today's society. Is the school perfect? No, but show me a school that is.

SJRCS has provided my children with a solid education within a nurturing, values based environment for the last 6 years. Like all schools there is room for improvement in some areas, but there is not another school in the Frederick area that I would prefer for my children to attend.

We are a military family new to the Frederick area, and have found SJRCS to be an exemplary school. Having just moved from Germany, we were anxious about finding the right educational environment for our younger children. After hearing glowing remarks about SJRCS, we found that the education and the people at the school measured up to its superlative reputation. The learning environment fosters the development personal excellence and academic achievement, while the faculty and staff could not have been more helpful in helping our family transition back to the States. Our kids (K and 3rd grade) have flourished at the school since August, and we have been favorably impressed with St. John's sense of community. Parents are actively involved in school activities of all kinds; the school views education as a collaborative enterprise between families and the faculty. To be able to send our kids to a place where negative and destructive social influences are minimized has been wonderfully reassuring. We've really felt as if the faculty and staff are as invested in our children's development as we are.

As an alumnus of St. John Regional, I credit my smooth transitions into high school and college to the foundations in education and character I gained from SJRCS. I am thankful for the opportunities for success SJRCS gave me as I pursued different interests throughout my nine years of school there. The students at SJRCS grew together to become a community, and I am happy to still keep in touch with many of them, whom I have known since grade school.
