Tbh, it pretty good I guess. Im a current student in my 2nd year at shady grove. I am in the Global humanities program with advanced English and history, and Im in advanced math as well. For staff, this school has it well. Majority (60-40) of the teachers Ive had so far were pretty chill, I even talk to some of the teachers Ive had in previous year(s). But I will say there has been some times where I dont really understand certain teachers methods when it comes to engaging kids , it happens to the point where I have to get my own personal tutor, in class it just feels like a teacher is talking at us not to us, many people tell me this too. Im a fast learner and I understand things right when you tell me, and if not Ill eventually get the gist.
Something I dont really find fair is that, you only get experienced teachers when youre in the advanced classes. I hear a lot of students in my grade complaining about their on level English teacher not having control over the class and not being able to teach a lesson properly, meanwhile Im over here with a teacher that knows how to handle a classroom and how to get kids engaged in learning. Ive been switched out of classes twice in these past 2 years so Ive experienced the same teachers who dont have control over their classes.
For students, I cant really say much around this topic, because they are middle schoolers you can only control them so much. A lot of people in my grade know me and I talk to a lot of kids from different friend groups and things like that. But socially right now it just feels like I dont really have a place, and Im completely fine with that. This type of topic should be discussed with a counselor or guardian. But I will say administration has a pretty good way of handling when things happen online or when rumors get spread. Behavioral issues on the other hand, like I said before kids will be kids. As far as Ive see and have been through, the biggest punishment youll get is an in school suspension or a afterschool detention for a bit,. Thats why a lot of kids continue to do the same things over and over because all they get is a slap on the wrist sometimes. Theres no real reflection process accept writing a paragraph on a paper, thats something that can be worked on as well.

i am a past student at this school and let me say i would absolutely not recommend you send your child here. if you have a choice anyways. the education i received was fine overall but the staff that worked there was not great whatsoever; rudeness all around to students and parents of students. yes there were a few good ones but in my memory only 2/3 of them i would consider to be good teachers. would give this school a zero but thats not possible. a one in unfortunately the lowest i can rate.

Small school with very dedicated staff. Teachers work tirelessly with students and parents to create the best experience for all. The only downfall is behavior management by administration, but from what I hear that is a trend in the county. There are close to no consequences for poor behavior. Luckly, that is not a big issue in the school. Most kids are polite, respectful and care about their education

Excellent support for student with ADHD and anxiety. Teachers are engaged and supportive as is the broader staff.

Kids at this school either dont do their homework or they try to and dont finish because a lot of teachers arent very clear with their explanations for the homework.

Their OK, they could do better in training.

Not a lot of students there actually have respect for kids there, they only have respect for their closest friends but they dont show any of the slightest respect to teachers and peers.

The leadership don't have effective ways of dealing with insubordinates and kids who simply dont follow rules, they dress code girls when they are only exposing about half an inch of a girls midriff and none of the girls at the school wear CROP TOPS , they really only wear shirts that have a tiny bit at the bottom cut off

Because the kids with learning differences are put into a program and it allows them to walk out the class whenever they want, say whatever they want, do whatever they want, and roam around the halls all whilst only getting a weak slap on the wrist.

I had a turbulent year one with me getting in trouble on 2 accounts for things I didn't even start.

It's Horrible because as a student who has gone to this school, not only have I experienced it but I felt it. The school deals horribly with bullying and while I was a 6th grader there my entire 6th grade year was turbulent, not only with my mom still recovering from having 2 major surgeries back to back, but I also had to deal with some of the obnoxious kids which didn't help my situation at all.

My daughter has always achieved straight A. It's because teacher always recommend her to maintain her Gpa and effort. Her Gpa is 4.0.

as a new student from another state, I have to say, this school gave me the worst impression of this area. alot of the students are obnoxious in a way and there are so many disruptions to leaning on a daily basis. the staff team is okay, but can be improved in so many ways. I'm not sure if this only applies to 7th (the grade I am in) but thats what I've been seeing.

My son is now in his 3rd quarter in 6th grade and we are still very happy with the school. He is on a 3.67 GPA average. He is also involved in drama club and will be playing a major part in the upcoming Peter Pan musical. The teacher response and customer service is exceptionally high. One time my son forgot his key at home and the student counselor drove him to our hosue to retrieve it. My son loves the school and we are happy.
