My experience with both of my daughters has been horrible. The teachers are good for the most part, but the girl students are very foul and fake. Not a good socially healthy school, especially for students that already deal with mental health issues.
These girls need to start being repremanded for their behavior!

As a parent, overall I would recommend this school. My daughter graduated in 2024, had many great acceptances for engineering school, is very well prepared and thriving in college. There is good and bad just like any other high school. But I cant rave enough about how the APPS program was top notch. If your child is selected for this program, they will have great classes/rigor, great teachers and a great cohort of students for the next 4 years. In addition there is a great PTECH program PLTW, early college and dual enrollment program if that is of interest. It is a big school with lots of students, so you do need to seek out help if you need but the help is there. Counselors have been great as well. Overall great students and environment from the immediate neighborhood of Clarksburg. My child had tons of leadership opportunities and learning rigor to help her excel with college acceptances and most importantly with college itself.

I has my two oldest children graduate from Clarksburg. Both of them were offended by the culture of the students. Most students were bullies. Some students were so scared that they brought weapons to school to protect themselves. They were shunned from sports because they did not grow up in Clarksburg. I was stationed in Hawaii and my children played Soccer year round. The school is very segregated. My two youngest children attend Damascus. We still live in Clarksburg. I would not recommend Clarksburg Highschool to anyone. The elementary and middle schools are wonderful. Now that Marijuana is legal in Maryland, IT's what I smell when driving through Clarksburg, even going by the High School. I think that the staff and teachers of the school try their best. I believe that it is the parents of the school district I blame. Once these children turn 14-15 their parents stop being parents. Once my children graduate I am moving far away. The children that do well at this school would do well anywhere. Those are the children that are not allowed to go out with friends and experience life. Those children are stuck in their rooms learning for college. Some students don't even attend the physical school. Those are the ones at Montgomery Community College getting an associates degree. The culture of Clarksburg is sickening. These children do not have the social skills to contribute to the workforce.

Two of our children are recent Clarksburg grads and they both now attend top 10 universities (Northwestern and UChicago). They both had very positive experiences at Clarksburg - great teachers and great administrators who really took an interest in them and supported them emotionally and academically. Clarksburg also has a wonderfully diverse student body - and the students seem to revel in this - making friends across lines of race and socioeconomic groups. Watching these young people treat each other with such respect is truly an example of what our country is at its very best.

With the recent redistricting our high school would now be Seneca Valley - in all honesty looking at their college readiness, etc. ratings - we would have had no other choice but to send our kids to a private high school - we simply would not send them to a school that has a 3 out of 10 for college readiness. This rating suggests that even the kids who are serious students are likely not able to get needed support as school resources are undoubtedly stretched and distracted by the overwhelming number of students who are not college ready. Perhaps this will not be the case in the future but in the near term we would find it untenable.

My son entered as a Junior in 2019. We found the school to be supportive and an excellent place for him socially, even though it was two times larger than his school in Louisiana. The academics, counselors, and teachers were excellent! I was pleasantly surprised at the engaged, hands-on approach of the entire admininstration! We love Clarksburg High School!

Homework is used to reinforce instruction that occurs via teaching. As part of secondary grading and reporting homework is not punitive.

Some of my teachers were the worst and I did poorly classes because of their teaching style (in subjects that I enjoy). Some teachers are great and taught me valuable life lessons. It all depends on who you get.

I graduated class of 2020 and attended Clarksburg all 4 years. If you are wondering wether or not to move here because of the school, I say do it. It's a fine school with fine people so your child will make due. And as a word of advice to parents, listen to your children and genuinely think about what they say. Many people my age are extremely stressed, overwhelmed, and depressed, do you want to be a part of that?

My son is a junior and is receiving a fine education at CHS. But let's be honest, the school is irrelevant if his parents don't set high academic expectations and give him the resources/environment to achieve them.

CHS has received low scores in equity categories. This is an intractable problem if the parents are not brought into the solution at least as much as the student. The home environment and example set by adults is critical. How can a student work tenaciously toward a fulfilling future when she is raised observing adults waste their time in front of a screen. Children require a home environment conducive to learning, and thus academic success. Parents must be commanded (yeah, I said it!) to

1) Turn off the TV and all devices.
2) Abandon all non-educational use of the internet (FB, IG, Twitter, TikTok, etc. is for losers).
3) Stand ready to help with homework until it is completed. Even if you dont know the subject matter, be resourceful and learn it with your child.
4) Read books written by renowned academics on complex subjects.
5) Set *extremely* high academic expectations (expect As, question Bs, teacher meeting for anything else)

All good-intentioned efforts to help underachieving students will continue to fail if they do not equally involve their underachieving parents.

P.S. If this post hurts your delicate feelings, youre consuming it with the wrong part of your brain.

I have a 10th grader at Clarksburg. She was homeschooled until entering Clarksburg in 9th grade. We LOVE Clarksburg!! The principal who just started at Clarksburg this year is awesome. He is very involved in every aspect of the school, he communicates with parents on a regular basis via email and phone blasts. You can find him at PTSA meetings, sporting events, in the hallways, everywhere! My daughter has taken some AP classes, which are excellent. And the honors classes are good as well. My daughter has made a good group of friends and she's involved in sports and other activities. My husband and I are involved in the PTSA and we volunteer at teacher appreciation events. Clarksburg has a great community and great diversity. We love this school!

The school is better than expected. The teaching staff and administrators are great and can't wait for the new principal to take it to new heights. Wish there was an IB program in addition to the Apps program, that is all that is missing.

I'm happy with Clarksburg. The leadership is good, most of the teachers are awesome, and the people, in general, aren't the worst. I'm in the APPS program, and it's a great program, however, many of the worst experiences I've had are related to the APPS program. First of all, it's run, well, poorly. When I applied my freshman year, the requirements were that you had to complete 6 AP courses and maintain a 3.5 GPA. Last year, the requirements changed-- they told the class of 2016 and below, but did not inform my class, the class of 2015, even though the requirements still applied. Because of this I had to give up an internship I would have been doing next year to take another AP credit. Also, there are no seminars or assemblies for APPS kids. If they say there are, that's not true. I've been in the program three years and have seen one. They also don't tell you if you've been ejected from the program, they assume you know, and if you don't, you find out at the end of your senior year.
