If admin sets the tone for a school, then this school is not a welcoming place for young people, especially those of color.

Elementary school children do not need additional homework unless it is a fun science project or night time reading specific to their reading level. Kids need free time to explore, create, craft, be outside, and have fun. Learning happens anywhere. Learning happens when kids are rested, happy, and inspired. My kids are happier knowing when they get home they don't have to keep "working". They have 3 to 3 1/2 hours to play, be with family, relax, bath and reading time. Pushing kids to work beyond their "work" day is never productive and will never foster a joy for learning.

After 9 years at this school with different kids through all grade levels, i can say that every teacher and staff member have been A+. I volunteer often and I am on the school campus every week or bi-weekly. I have never heard a teacher yell, talk disrespectfully, or unkind to any student. They have all been very patient, caring, kind, and respectful no matter the situation. Mrs. Covey, Mrs. Guillen, Mrs. Delaney, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. McCole, Mrs. Smucker, and Mr. Cabel are all excellent teachers! Also, the teachers are excellent communicators with parents.

YSES has excellent role models for respect, integrity, and compassion. Mrs. Emma is one of the custodians as is Mr. Eric. They both have excellent work ethics and integrity. The entire school shines and somehow looks spotless even with 500 kids in the building.

Mrs. Gullo brings a sunny smile and disposition to YSES. She is professional, friendly, caring, respectful, and communicates well when issues arise.

Mrs. Lear is a fantastic speech teacher!

There was 1 incident at school that I felt was not handled properly.

Overall, a 9.8 out of 10. I highly recommend YSES. It is clear the teachers are dedicated to making everyday, in the life of every student, the best day. We should ALL make a effort to thank teachers and staff often for their care of our children. They have one of the most challenging and life changing (for the child) jobs a human could have. Much of the work of teaching is done unpaid and behind the scenes. Teachers and staff show up everyday with a positive attitude, no matter how they feel, or what may be going on in their lives. They put the kids first. Have your child create a card or craft special for someone at school. Bring the teacher a surprise treat or chocolates. Let them know you care and appreciate the great energy and effort it takes every day to teach 28 kids.

Our Principal goes above and beyond to promote equity, fairness, kindness and provides alternative learning opportunities like robotics, the arts, green initiatives.

The teachers and aids make this a great opportunity for all students.

Kindness is stressed. Yellow Springs provides a supportive environment to learn how to interact.

We’ve had a fantastic experience! Our kids are thriving and doing great!!

Just the right amount to add to the education but not overwhelm or stress the student.

The teachers are phenomenal. They go the extra mile, provide love and support to everyone, promote a happy and productive learning environment.

The theme of kindness and character counting is a constant.

The staff at YSES are the best! They are friendly, organized and are all around excellent teachers. Admin is professional and quick to assist with concerns (if you have any). The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting. Our experience has been great! I would rate YSES at a 9+.

Teachers are really informative and keep you engaged. They seem to have a genuine interest in your child.

My daughter has been here for kinder and 1st grade and I am very pleased with where she is at in her education. Her teacher is amazing and if I could package her up and share her with other schools I would!!! Mrs Hawk goes above and beyond expectations. She sees each child as an individual and guides them to be the best they can be. She nurtures their strengths and helps them work through their weaknesses. I could not have picked a better teacher!! The 1st grade team at YSES are just out of this world.

My son just completed the first grade and after two years at Yellow Springs Elementary we could not be more pleased with the school. Despite the age of the facility, the entire staff does a wonderful job with the kids. Parent involvement is huge and the school leadership really encourages parents to get involved. Around Frederick, Yellow Springs is jokingly refered to as the best kept secret in FCPS and as the "Private" public school for the quality of the education our kids recieve. I could not recommend it stronger for great teachers, great principal and great staff.
