This school is struggling significantly. Despite the dedication of the teachers, the mandatory immersion program is poorly conceived, as evidenced by the test scores. No adjustments have been made post-pandemic to address the substantial decline in performance, leading to a significant gap in fundamental skills necessary for middle school. Innovative ideas are often rejected under the pretense of equity, which the school interprets as treating everyone equally at the lowest common denominator. It is perplexing how a public school can enforce an immersion program on families, and MCPS has been unwilling to offer Change of School Assignments (COSAs) for parents who wish to opt out. Additionally, my children have been assaulted and have repeatedly had their learning disrupted by emotional outbursts from classmates, with minimal intervention from the school to address these issues.

This school has an outstanding principal and teachers who are dedicated to their students. The bilingual program there is incredible. My daughter is in 2nd grade and she has been there since kindergarten. Our experiences with the school have been very positive.

Teachers at this school are amazing. They do try to go above and beyond most times. There is a learning, yet fun environment in the classroom- and I know because my 2nd grader loves art and music and she gets to color in every class. They take the asset of multilingualism and multicultural at heart when making decisions surrounding what will be done at the school or not. They are also invested in equity. The school counts with 1.5 FTE for counselors and has a full time nurse.
The school can improve in its own initiative to communicate and open up to the community, but they do respond if you reach out both teachers and administrators.
I'll say that the front office staff is amazing as well.
The school provides afterschool learning programs and Music classes my daughter loves.

Their three pillars of students are: Respectful, Responsible and Safe. My daughter preaches this to us and to her friends so I know the school has done a great job of making this part of their culture and daily experience.

The principle is VERY engaged with her teachers and the school itself. She is a strong, driven leader who's every action is to better her student body and faculty.

When our daughter joined BSES we met with the principle and her teacher many times to discuss how we could make kindergarten a success for her. Everyone went out of their way to tailor her year's learning specifically to her strengths. This included giving her individual 1st grade work for things like math while never removing her from the Kindergarten environment. It was an amazing experience and year for her.
I'm thankful we are zoned into this school and the faculty there is really supportive, helpful and dedicated.

My daughter went to Brown station E.S. 20 some odd years ago. She loved it as did I. Her son started school at another school , as we lived at that time at a different address, and hated it. It was one of the worst schools I've ever known. When I was able to find a house in this area, I enrolled him at B.S.E.S. Because of the influence from the other school, he would not only want to go to schol, but he would break down and cry not to go. The teachers and principal of Brown station were so caring, he started to look forward to going to school. He had such a wonderful teacher, that his grades went from D's nad F's to B's and C+'s. Now I have my daughters other child attending Brown Station and loving it.I will always be indebt and Truly grateful to Brown Station
