I love LPA the community is amazing. The teachers work with the parents to ensure their child is getting the best education possible. You can ask any questions to staff and parents and will get an honest answer. The turn over rate is low. All the teachers know the children. This me and my children first year and it was a great choice.

I love that my kids go here. The school is dedicated making every kid feel welcome, and kids come from all backgrounds. That is on purpose and it shows. Difficulties with kids from different backgrounds will happen, but they handle it extremely well. Its fair, its good for the kids and they leave as compassionate humans. Academics are strong, the teachers are dedicated. I feel very lucky to be a parent of a student here!

We have been very happy with our decision to join the LPA community. Our son is in first grade, and we have seen him grow so much academically this year. One of the biggest things that stood out to us, and one of the main reasons we chose LPA was the overall happiness, positivity and energy we felt from all the teachers and staff. With every interaction, whether it was the moment we walked into the school on our first tour, or simply calling the school and asking the office staff a few questions, meeting our sons new teacher, or walking the hallways during morning drop off all staff members are kind & helpful, and genuinely passionate about teaching our children. Our son has made many new friends, and feels at home at LPA. We look forward to creating lasting relationships and memories within this wonderful school community.

The primary reason for this review is to let other parents know that if your child is thriving, they will cater into that, and make sure your child succeeds.
If your child is failing, they are left behind. There are no programs or educational support for those children that need extra attention. They are neglected to slip through the cracks and forced to move on without any care of how they will enter into the next grade.

Lafayette Prep is an amazing community charter school which allows students to be themselves and excel in the classroom thanks to the amazing support of their teachers. My boys are so happy at the school and have loved every teacher they've had. I appreciate the diverse environment where my boys are allowed to learn and grow.

We have two children in the lower school (K-4) and have been connected with LPA for three years. LPA teaches the whole child, striking a balance between rigorous academics and emotional learning. The faculty here understand that children do their best cognitive learning when they feel safe, loved, and respected in their relationships with peers and the adults who care about them. Specialists in PE, Art, Music, and Technology as well as after school clubs and athletic opportunities complement the strong content area curriculum. This school welcomes all types of families; it's diverse in a multitude of ways - race ethnicity, socioeconomics, family structure, age of parents, etc. They work consciously to make sure everyone is valued, and we love the community that surrounds our children and family.

The data speaks for itself. LPA has done specific PDs to address the over aggressive punishment model that adversely affects Black boys.

Unfortunately, the student handbook is systemically racist and they are so rigidly attached to it that they can't sew how racist it is!

It's great to acknowledge there is a problem. But if you don't do anything about it, you're just going to continue to reinforce it.

This place is not safe for Black Boys in middle school.

My experience is watching in astonishment that they get away with allowing children to pass grades with not knowing how to spell, add, multiplication or comprehension. Do not believe that these are excellent educators. A SEVENTH grader does not know how to spell simple small words such as ghost, razor & detergent! Does not know how to add a mini putt putt score card!! ADDITION??
Or definitely not multiply 12 x7 = 44? Right?? She guessed!!
Has had an ongoing, noticeable speech impediment & NO ONE corrects it or practices the correct pronunciations.
Tutors?? Whats that? Basically just over paid babysitters.
Doesnt have any comprehension of what she read, much less learned.
Instead of noticing she has a learning disability, they pass her along to the next grade.
High school? She is barely at a 3rd grade reading level!! This school is a joke and you can see by your ratings, reviews & test scores!!! Im not even an educator & can see that you all are failing!

LPA started out as a school committed to the whole child philosophy the first few years in operation and essentially rebranded themselves once they moved to Lafayette Square. They began to use suspension far too often as an approach to discipline instead of a restorative justice approaches. Also lots of turnover with the teaching staff and lack of accountability when newly hired educators arent finding meaningful ways to connect with the students. They are also not well equipped to serve children with disabilities. If you have a child with an IEP you will have to educate yourself about your childs rights or hire an advocate so you can make sure your child gets the services they are entitled to by law.
