We have not had a single good experience at this school. If your child is in 5th grade they will be punished for the actions of other students via silent lunches and no recess. We have brought our concerns to the teacher and the school. We were dismissed. They refuse to hold the individual students accountable and instead punish the class as a whole. If you have the option to have your child attend bayou view then I highly suggest you do so.

This is the 2nd year for my children at Anniston. My children are in 1st and 2nd grade this year. In an effort to be brief, I'll keep my complaints to the current year.
Homework:
My 2nd grader was given the exact same homework as my 1st grader for 2 whole weeks. His homework is graded weekly. Since I work 7am - 3pm, I reached out through notes in his binder to the teacher. They were unanswered. I tried calling the office. They told me to email the teacher. The emails were unanswered. I figured after she graded the weekly assignment that surely she would respond to my notes or even realize. No. A 2nd weekly assignment was sent home and guess what? It was the exact same hwk as my 1st grader's again! Frustrated with the lack of communication by the office & teachers, my husband visited the school to find the entire 2nd grade had been issued the same workbooks as the 1st grade. Apparently no one noticed. Surprised? I was - why did we have to go up there for this to be corrected? I called & wrote notes the week before. Why wasn't it noticed when the teachers graded the papers?
School Pictures:
I purchased fancy outfits down to new shoes and all for my little ones to take photos that we could send with our Xmas cards to family & friends across the globe. (we are a military family) We received notices from the office that teachers, including my children's, would not be returning, shortly after pictures were taken. We were assured there would be a smooth transition and the reasons they were leaving were "of a personal nature". The pictures were never sent home. Mailing deadlines came & went for guaranteed Christmas arrivals. Photos were going to be a framed gift for the grandparents. I called the office. They were surprised and told me that after over a month of waiting, I should have received them 2 weeks ago. They told me to call the photographer, who was shocked the school didn't have them and then mailed them to my house. A month after receiving them in the mail, the school sent them home with my children. (In late January).
Science Fair:
I requested registration forms from both 1st and 2nd grade teachers.. The response was "1st graders are not required to do one." and "My team does not know anything about this." I had to literally beg the teachers for my children to sign up. This school is the epitome of why so many parents choose private schools.

Anniston Avenue is going through some serious growing pains and the less kids that attend, the better. So, you probably want to find a different school. Now, if I haven't scared you off yet, and you're still interested, I must admit I love this school. This is the second year my children have attended and I'm happy with everything I've seen. They're willingness to challenge the gifted and lift up those who are struggling, is phenomenal. Your child will receive customized education which will help challenge their minds and keep them on track. Parent participation is strongly encouraged at school. Whether it's with helping your child to succeed, meeting for conferences or assisting with PTA events, the school wants you to be part of their academic community. What better way to stay connected to how you child doing than to be at the school, helping them help your child? Lastly, this school takes academics seriously. There aren't many parties or celebrations, and when there is, it's all academics based. When your kid walks in the doors, they're made aware it's time to get to work.

My children have gone to Anniston since kindergarten. We recently moved due to a military transfer and leaving anniston was the hardest about the entire move. Mrs. Jackson was my daughters kindergarten teacher in 2009 and mrs. Bloom was my sons kindergarten teacher this year and they both have paved a very concrete educational road for my children. Parent involvement is a must at this school! They promote is and I can say that I'm very happy for that. It keeps me in the loop and if I have any questions I can text or email my children's teachers! Dr. Payne is the most involved principle I've ever seen! I love and adore her! She knows every single child's name and is always walking around checking on the teachers and students. I would recommend this school to anyone! The entire staff is amazing.

This school strives to reach excellent academic performance daily. They do their best to make every decision based on what is best for every child. The school is child friendly both in design and staff. The principal knows most students by name and greets them in them in the hall. It has an enviornment that is open to not only encouraging learning but also character and personal growth.

Outstanding staff striving for the best of every student in every grade. Initially some "growing pains" while introducing the Common Core Curriculum but already see a difference in my son's approach to academics. 5-STAR's for sure!

Anniston Elementary is an amazing school, and I am thrilled to know that my three children are receiving the best possible education. They have been attending Anniston since kindergarten, and I am confident that they will all be thoroughly prepared for what lies ahead at the middle and high school level. The staff and administration are absolutely wonderful! They are all very supportive and more than happy to provide each one of my children with the love and guidance they need to grow into responsible, well-rounded individuals. Their doors are always open, and I always feel like a welcome part of the Anniston community. My family and I feel extremely fortunate to call ourselves members of such a close-knit community of educators.

Anniston and the Gulfport School District have been very good to my 1st grader. We have wonderful teachers and a dedicated and involved principal. In addition, I don't know of any other elementary schools on the Coast with such a broad rang of extracurricular activities.

I really considered sending my children to a private school, but when I saw the prices, I looked for other options. I started researching level 5 schools, and came across Anniston. I am so happy with my decision to bring my boys to AAE! I have one in kindergarten and one in first grade, and I am so pleased. I love the attention they give them. They push them to be the best!

Anniston Elem is a great school. Located in a large neighborhood, many children are able to walk or bike to school safely-can't say that about too many schools anymore. The children at Anniston feel important and respected and in turn learn to treat others the same. Teachers are attentive and willing to go the extra mile to make sure all students learn and understand the lessons. The gifted program is wonderful and the office staff is always very helpful. Fun reward activities for grades and reading keep students striving to do their best.

I am so pleased with the educational foundation my grandchild is receiving at AAE. This is his second year attending school there and I could not have made a better choice of school. My child is pushed academically and I receive daily communications. The staff is warm and friendly and there is no limit to parents involvement either. I feel he is getting a solid foundation and will continue to sore. I highly recommend this school!

This school has an incredibly dedicated faculty. My daughters have both attended from Kindergarten to Fifth grade. I have nothing but positive things to say about the entire schools from adminstrators to teachers. The arts are included daily, Quest classes are offered for gifted students, and accomodations are made for special students without missing a beat. Everyone goes above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. I had no idea that teachers worked as many long hours as they do. I'm blessed to have had such wonderful people educating my children.

Teachers and administrators continuously search for new strategies and attend workshops to further enhance teaching techniques. The staff goes above and beyond for the students and the students recognize the respect and compassion teachers have for them, thus leading them to work hard and reach academic and social goals.

I am a district teacher and my daughter attends AAE as a 1st grader this year. As district staff we can choose which school we would like our kids to attend, and for us there was no better choice than AAE! They have some of the best staff and administrators in the district. I have only had the pleasure of really getting to know Ms. Kovacevich, Mrs. Liberato, and Ms. Shaw so far, and they are fantastic teachers! If you are looking for a great school, choose Anniston:)

The staff and administration at this school strive to help students achieve their academic goals and will go the extra mile for every child, if that that is what it takes. There is no problem too big or too small for this faculty to handle. Way to go!!

My daughter went to Anniston for two years after attending another local "Blue Ribbon" school and the difference was baffling. She was not doing well and was "behind" at the previous school, but the wonderful educators at Anniston not only got her caught up to grade level, but now she is in Middle School and is ahead of most of her peers from surrounding schools. No only did she thrive, but she LOVED Anniston. So impressive! Thank you so much, Ms. Shoemake, Ms. Stokes, and Dr. Payne! I cannot say enough wonderful things about you all.
