This school has caused nothing but trouble for my family. I was fired from my substitute teaching job because of one slip-up. I have had the police sent to my house, because suddenly I wasn't able to drop my child off at the specified time. My son received head injuries whilst at this school, but no one seems to know how it happened. Then they called child services on me without any evidence of any form of harm and cost me a job due to the investigation. I and other parents have pulled our child(ren) from this school due to the lack of attention and education that we have received. they need to be investigated.

9/10 I love this school. They always look after my kids and when I don't understand something take the time to help me.
Posted: July 27, 2018
The homework is about what they are working on and sometimes things they need practice with.
Posted: July 27, 2018
The teachers always support my daughters and give them the time and attention they need to learn and grow. They help them want to learn.
Posted: July 27, 2018
The girls have told me how the teachers stop in the middle of class to discuss how things could affect them later in life. They also talk about how to deal with situations and people as it comes up in class.
Posted: July 27, 2018
The leadership sets the stage for the school, if they weren't on top of things my girls would not be so successful.
Posted: July 27, 2018
My girls have both had learning disabilities. They got the support they needed and are very successful.

My oldest told me of a problem she had with another student. She spoke with the vice-principal, he took care of it.

Horrible! There needs to be an investigation of this school for racial disparities, bullying and teacher training when it comes to the old teachers who feel they should not have to do all that is required of the younger teachers. If you receive test from all your kids teachers not just the more organized ones. You can take your concern to the superintendent and he does nothing either. Just ask if you have talked with the principal? Really, evidently I have not been able to get any assistance there, which is why I am contacting you. Even the substitute teacher in kindergarten class was horrible to the kids. As I observed and told the principal about this lady and how she spoke to the kids. The principal stated the old teacher is out ill and we cant wait for her to come back too. WHAT! This means you know this lady is doing wrong. Well I must say, I did tell them if this lady says one more bad or insulting thing to my son, I will be pressing charges and they may want to get it under control because I know these other parents would not want this lady talking to their kids any-kind-of-way!

The homework is given with little to no instructions and/or examples for parents to be able to assist the kids. When you ask the teacher, she avoids you until you get the principal involved and then she states she doesnt send the graded paperwork they have done in he because thats too time consuming. Wow!

Teachers here have favorites and so does other staff members. And if a parent has an issue they blow it over. There is a lot of bullying at this school with no repercussions or discipline.
Posted: March 5, 2018
There is so much bullying here nothing is done! The superintendent does absolutely nothing, so why should the staff, is the attitude around here! But let parents take things into their own hands and then theres a problem, WHY? You think we are going to sit bay and let this happen to our kids, you must be insane and need to retire!
Posted: March 5, 2018
There is little to none. The assistant principal which holds a doctoral degree should be the principal. He is the only positive out of this school. I see both but racism everywhere. The principal last year has retired, and good ridden, she would not accept gifts from black or interracial kids. My kid was one of them. He gave all his teachers and staff a small token but told my son she doesnt except gifts from kids like him. Called the superintendent and nothing! They have a new principal this year, but only time can tell. She is also white, but no doctorate degree, something is not right here.

They offer after school tutoring, and some offer it during the day when the kids should be in PE.
Posted: March 5, 2018
Bullying is acceptable here. From the Superintendent down! Nothing is done. There is bullying on the school bus as well!

Read all the terrible reviews. They are still 100% truth. No recess for kindergarteners? No fun, no free time. They get in trouble for talking even at lunch! What do they expect from small kids that don't even get a recess! They add another class and sent a note home with the kids! Didn't even call the parents to tell them they were moving our kids to a new class. This is insane. Even the orientation was a pile of NOTHING. They didn't even treat us, as parents, with any kind of regard. If you have another option to take your kid, do it, don't look back.

They do school work but, especially at a kindergarten level, I expect more. My daughter gets unhappy faces on her work all the time. She used to love school.

One post states several teachers have transferred. This is not correct. Several teachers have left but they have resigned or walked out due to administration mismanagement. There is a lack of transparency and very poor communication between administration and staff, and the administration lies to cover this up. Behavior problems are not addressed, and bullies run the school. One student walked out of class and down HWY. 49. This school has a toxic environment. Stay as far away as you can.

This school has had a complete overhaul of the administration and several of the teachers have transferred or found other jobs. The office staff is now very helpful. Communication is getting better and the quality of teaching has improved. I am eager to see what else is on the horizon for this school - the culture is changed drastically from last year.

This school is absolutely horrible. My son went here for kindergarten and first grade. The teachers are rude. My son was on a daily basis yelled at from his teacher. I do not allow yelling in my home, there is no way I am going to put up with a teacher yelling at him for not walking correctly in the hallway!!!! There is NO recess available. Do they not understand that kids this age need to get outside and run off steam? Oh and he was sent home a written notice for "excessive running" in PE!!!! Last time I checked that PE was for exercise, but unfortunately there PE consists of watching movies. Whatever you do, DO NOT send your children to Lyman Elementary!

Lyman definitely has problem from the time you enter the office. The main office lady is rude/, never smiles, and assumes your child is a problem. The teachers are decent, but perhaps some standards should be there for dress code, appropriateness of conversation, and how to teach such a poor socio-economic school; character is seriously devoid and the principal is opposite of help. I thought the new assistant principal is a good choice if she can override the current principal. In addition, the children consistently lose recess because of other children and PE time is a joke. If you have a discipline problem at school perhaps allowing the children 'active' PE time (not movies) will facilitate focus. After traveling the country and experience to schools from the West to the East Coast, and now the South. Lyman Elementary is the worst school ever!

I am absolutely appauled as a parent. This school should seriously be shut down. The Office staff is rude. Most (not all) of the teachers have no idea how to treat children nor nurture them. I have no idea how this school is still operating.

This school is a joke. The people that work the office are rude, the teachers could careless about your childs education.. This school needs to be shut down!!!

I am shocked at the comments about this school. The vast majority of the teachers and staff are very dedicated and competent professionals who give of themselves beyond what is required. For those of you who have encountered problems with a teacher or staff member, remember that one person does not and should not condemn the entire faculty of a school.

This schools motto should be 'SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG'' weve had to take problems to a higher authority because the vice principal will just blow off any problems no matter how serious. The office staff seems to hate everyone. Teachers share way to much personal info with students. Staff turns their head when racial issues are presented. Bullying is not stopped by staff when they see it. There appears to be no dress code and no code of conduct for students or staff. Poor teacher quality, poor staff quality. Unprofessional janitorial staff allowed to yell at and belittle kids for walking on the freshly mopped hall way floors. Where else are they supposed to walk? This school is in need of a serious over haul. My kids have been transfered to a better district where they are treated like people, not livestock. I will never put my kids back in Lyman elem.

Nearing the end of our 2nd & final year at Lyman. Previously I had no problems with this school now the problems are plentiful. The staff has proven to be 3rd rate. The office staff has a 'you dont matter' attitude toward all. The teachers are rude, unprofessional & unmotivated. A new teacher insist on showing students her tattoos, she tells them all about her personal life-highly inappropriate, her tattoos & personal life have nothing to do with teaching. My child has told me about teachers ganging up on students, singling them out & alienating them from the class. Only when my other childs ADHD meds stop working does their teacher call me repeatedly to tell me to do something about it, then she says its MY CHOICE for my child to be on meds. If it were my choice my child wouldnt have a disibility. Having ADHD & the treatment of ADHD are not a CHOICE. AVOID THIS SCHOOL LIKE THE PLAGUE it will infect your children, your home, you & your relationship with your spouse.

I did not like this school. My child went to this school for two 9-weeks. I pulled my child from this school. The teachers were rude. I never felt welcomed at this school. My child is now enrolled in a school without any problems. I'm in shock with the difference a new school has made on our family. My child now likes to go to school versus crying everyday to stay home. I will never send my child back to this school!

My son started Kindergarten at Lyman this year. His teachers as well as other staff members have been wonderful, not only for him and his future, but our family as well! Thank you Lyman Elementary
