St. Martin Middle School

I dont understand the other parents' reviews I've seen calling this a problem school, and claiming that there is a lot of bullying. My daughter (now 13 and in 8th grade) has attended St. Martin schools since 5K and she has absolutely flourished in these schools! She loves going to school, she enjoys learning, and she's never had any behavioral problems, or seen any problematic behaviors of that sort in any other students or staff in the whole 9 years she's been there. My only complain is I wish thier lunch breaks were a little LESS structured, and they were given more freedom to mingle and socialize with other students (I feel this is an important way of letting the children learn how to navigate in a social setting, and how to read and act upon social cues from thier peers. This is a necessary skill they will use in their adult lives, especially as they join the work force and have to comport themselves appropriately as they navigate the social moires in a professional seting. Separating them hinders this essential learning process) As it is they are required to sit with only thier classmates from the class period that they have lunch in. My daughter told me they used to be able to socialize as would be normal, but they had to put a stop to it bc of some fights between other students, so a few bad apples ruined it for everyone. And we all know what kinds of kids those bad apples are. Sadly, this problematic demographic is inescapable in the public school systems. But I would NOT say that St Martin is over ran with that sort. Much better student body than D'Iberville Middle, for instance. Overall we are more than happy with my daughter's eduction and experience at St. Martin! WE LOVE OUR YELLOW JACKETS!!!!

My two oldest grandchildren attended this school. The oldest one, a quiet reserved boy, didn't like the school, but survived without too many issues. He learned what he needed to learn - but not as much as we had hoped. The curriculum here is....interesting. There was a lot of bullying going on in the school, but he was able to avoid it for the most part, simply because he was a full head taller than everyone else. (Though, he did spend a bit of time suspended for fighting back on behalf of two other students. One was a elementary kid, cornered on the bus, being called the n-word; the other was an IDEA kid.) I'd like to say he went on to enjoy his education at the high school, but that would be a lie. He finished his education online.

My granddaughter, typical petite young teen girl. She did well for the first year and half of the second year. When her mother died, there were some emotional issues (go figure), but some of the "mean girl" types figured out that dead mama jokes drove her wild. The school does nothing about it, and tells her that she should toughen up. When boys started touching her, she complained and was told that they weren't touching her sexually so she really shouldn't complain. Her father gave her permission says "no", then punch. She will be finishing her education online too. Unless, of course, we can manage to move out of this state before graduation.

These two kids started in this district from early elementary. It didn't used to be like this. IDK, what has changed but Lord, stay the hell away from St. Martin!

PS: In all fairness, I thought I should add that my younger grandson attended the elementary school a few years back. He went from the IDEA PreK program to 1st grade. They "lost" him three times - twice to the point of calling the local police. My daughter moved her kids to a different district.

This school is not a friendly or educated environment to be in. I thought we did enough research on this school and it is the reason we bought the house that we did. We scheduled an tour so we could view the teachers and school before sending our child here. Appearances can be so deceiving unfortunately. Our child has had nothing but issues with this school to the point that we dis-enrolled her and found a private school for her to attend. We have never felt the need to do this before in any other school district and where proud supporters of the public schools, they need it, but we could not keep sending our child to this school. First day of school, a teacher called a student an idiot in front of the entire classroom bc they put something away incorrectly. A teacher, who is supposed to be supportive and encouraging. Same said teacher would blow whistles at students loudly, would not allow them to talk during their free lunch period, and had so many grammar & spelling errors when sending letters to parents it was frightening to believe this was the person responsible for the education of our child. The teachers were constantly putting videos on instead of teaching. It is one thing to watch a video then explain/lecture about the topic, but they did not do that here, it was just letting the video be the teacher. They told students to install apps that required parental permission to make an account...without informing nor requesting permission from the parents. They did not help the students excel by any means, their advanced class was told that there is not allowed to be more than 10 children in the class even though there was room for it. There Covid response is abysmal and was running rampant in the school. The district had guidelines in place for cleaning & social distancing that this school did not enforce. There was a known teacher who had been in close contact with a positive case still in class in teaching and of course a day later that teacher caught it. You can not get a hold of anyone in the office, they do not answer the phones. They marked our child as absent on a day she was there and refused to change it in their systems. I could go on and I kid you not this all took place within 10 days. I have never seen my child come home so miserable and have such a strong feeling of not wanting to go to school. If you value education do not send your child to this school.

St. Martin Middle is an overly top amazing school because they helped my children they went from F's to straight A's . What yall are saying about this is a lie and yall need to stop NOW! It's really pitiful St. Martin Middle School is amazing! The teachers treat you like their own kid. They also HELP YOU FROM BULLYING! and yall said that it doesn't. They also have an amazing counselor and principal. T hia is the best school ever!!!! :)

Do your homework before sending your children here! I thought I was doing all the proper checking into this school and I was so wrong. I have had more problems with bullying, and teachers and administators turning a blind eye to it! My children hate going to school now and everyday it is something. Dont expect admin. to take action protecting your child from bullying. On top of the bullying the education that they are given is ridiculous, they have learned more about sex, how to speak fluent slang, and anything else you dont expect your child to learn at school. This will be the last year my children will attend this school! Please please dont make the same mistake we made
