As a parent, I am deeply disappointed with the ongoing lack of accountability, fairness, and transparency at East Hoke Middle School. Over multiple incidents, including serious threats of violence and physical assault against my daughter, the administration has consistently failed to respond in a timely, impartial, or responsible manner.
What is most troubling is the apparent pattern of bias and protection toward students affiliated with school employees. Despite video evidence and repeated complaints, my daughterwho was the victimwas suspended before any full investigation was completed, while the aggressor faced no visible consequences. Communication from the school was also delayed for hours, with no proper parental notification procedures followed.
This is not an isolated case. Multiple families have come forward with similar concerns about how incidents are handledor rather, not handledby the administration. The school has repeatedly demonstrated an inability to protect students, enforce discipline fairly, and uphold its duty to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
If you are a parent considering this school, I urge you to ask questions and speak to others in the community. I am actively pursuing action through the district and state education authorities to ensure accountability and change

This school is a living NIGHTMARE! I was here for 6th grade and Q1 7th grade and I'm SO GLAD I changed schools and my best friend moved before she could join. Here were almost all the issues I saw happen here: First, bullying. Second, kids being extremely loud every second. Third, not being able to go to the bathroom often even if you had bladder issues or was on your cycle. Fourth, not letting kids that need earmuffs or noise cancelation headphones use them. Fifth, discrimination. Sixth, the principle was literally friends and defending the immature kids. Seventh, (a personal experience I had as someone with a 504 plan for ADHD combo, Anxiety and PTSD) I was supposed to go to a separate room for testing and they wouldn't let me. Eighth, horrid lunch. Nineth, not good leadership. Tenth, rude staff. Eleventh, some students didn't have a locker when they should've already got one and paid for it. Twelfth, not letting kids go to the nurse's office when actually sick, like, I just vomited, I have a fever, my throats sore and I've been in the bathroom stall for an hour, what more proof do you need? There's more, but I'll stop there. I don't recommend this school unless you want your child to either be immature, disrespectful and inappropriate or terrified, quiet and uncomfortable.

This school is a NIGHTMARE! Some of the 6th grade teachers can care less for these students. One teacher kept calling my son by the wrong name. It is almost the end of the school year and you still cant get my kids name right ( umm, that tells me something) and he has the easiest name to remember. Teachers are telling students they wont be missed. This school is very unprofessional. I would transfer your kid out of here. They never contact you to help if your kid is failing. They only contact when there is a problem in the classroom.

I love this school. It is better than any other school. This school has great teachers and extra curricular my childs teachers have been really invested in helping her do the best she can. This school has teachers and homework help to help its students. Me personally have had no bad experiences.

My daughter is in 7th grade. Last year was nothing but issues with teachers and administrators. This year is more of the same. 8 weeks into and I get an email about my daughter having her phone out. When I reply to that Im told, and by the way she has a 1%. The teachers dont care enough about the students grades and education to contact a parent but they will contacts parents for any other trivial matter that gets on their nerves.

Horrible leadership. Horrible. Principal acts like he cares and sometimes he does but its more along the lines of looking out for troublemakers and to hell with the kids that are trying. My son tells me of students acting out in class and teacher tries to get control but those students continue to act how they want to. Administration comes to room, takes the troublemaker out of class for about 5 minutes then they are back and continue doing what they were before. It seems as if the 10% of the students that cause problems are more important than the 90% trying to do the right thing. They will tell you that East Hoke doesn't tolerate bullying but that is a bold face lie. Bullying occurs and minimal is done. Overcrowded and more students on the way. Sad state of affairs at East Hoke.

With Covid things have even got worse. Teacher will not turn papers back until 3 days before the grading period ends. If your child is a online student they are left behind.

I have called and talked to admin only to be told that I probably didnt have the whole story. They are more concerned with protecting their own, total disregard of even listening to my complaint.

I have 2 6th grade teachers that I absolutely love but the rest of my experience has been awful
Posted: December 19, 2018
I would rate them as very Poor, but I'm rating them with two stars instead of one only because they do, at least, seem to ensure some measure of safety at the school, but again, the learning environment is sub par.

The EC services/teaching is practically non-existent and the regular ed teachers are clueless and ineffective in supporting children with learning difficulties.

There is no leadership in providing innovative learning for kids with learning disabilities.
Posted: December 19, 2018
Not at all. They pretend too to some degree, but Hoke County Schools do not support kids with learning difficulties or differences. It's likely due to budget issues but overall, it's a poor learning environment for these students.

The rating for this school is low. Why because of poor leadership, poor conditions and the school is not clean, the leaders cover up any activities in this school, from grouping together and talks about parents and their students all the time. The leaders are so unprofessional, it is sad it is a click women school and no morals. This school shows NO character of teaching anyone children. Sad, Sad, Sad. Poor school, unprofessional and the teachers act like children themselves. Ignore this message, the teachers even bully your students. If you are not on the lying page, the leaders rise up against you. The same mess continuously goes on, placing unprofessional teachers in low performance classes. Then terminated the teachers.

The teachers in this school have personal issues with one another. It seems like a cat fight everyday between the teachers in this school. Teachers runaway and don't come back.

"HOUSTON....WE HAVE A PROBLEM!"
What is going on at this school? Teachers are leaving, unqualified and inexperienced people filling in for the teachers that left. Kids are running all over the place, the question I have...WHO IS MINDING THE STORE HERE? This school is in dire straits and it is a cluster muster here. A school full of women who are having personal issues with one another and there are a few men to provide leadership for the males.
If you are thinking about moving here? Think Twice or Run to Another Place outside Hoke County. There is Spring Hill Middle School 10 miles away in Scotland County is a better fit for your child.
Until they change upper echelon leadership do not bring your child to this school.
Don't walk away.....RUN!

I have a child who is aspersgers syndrome. Last year was a great. His year went pretty smooth. This year he is having trouble. His grades are dropping and some of the teachers do not follow his 504.I believe that the teacher should be more knowledgeable of what is on the child's ieps and 504s and make sure they are following.them. I don't feel the support as I felt last year. I have also had some issues with bullying at school and on the bus. One kid bullied my child for the first part of.the year so bad and I don't feel enough was done about this. Bullying is wrong. My son was also. accused of intentionally throwing something at another student and this was not try and was suspended and not able.to attend the dance. Some teachers are too quick to blame and accuse My son is far fro. perfect but he is autistic aspergers and one quality is they don't lie. This is a problem. thank you

I cannot say anything bad about this school. My oldest son has aspergers syndrome and has not had anything but support And if you are a parent who is on top of things as I am things will happen. His self esteem is building up and he is opening up . He enjoys going to school. Pro lems are dealt with. If you stay with them. Be there for you child at home and stay connected at school. Thank you.

RUN, don't walk away from this school!! This school is terrible!!! My son was an A/B (occasional C-in Math) student. He is now making D's and F's. You get very little if any help from teachers. He has been bullied on the bus and in gym class. The students bullying were talked to by the administration but they were not suspended. My son is a great kid. He has been praised my teachers at every school he has attended. He was playing a silly game with some boys where they rubbed themselves with a pencil eraser. I was called by a school social worker on Friday because of this my son is "self mutilating" can not return to school until he is cleared by a Dr. Anyone with half a brain can tell my child is happy and healthy both mentally and physically and comes from a loving home! I am furious. Children who are a threat to others can remain at school while my child is punished for being a kid! These people at this school are total NUT jobs! Your child will not be happy here!!!

I had the misfortune of working at this school for 3+ years. The teachers do not receive support from the administration regarding behavior issues. Many of the teachers do not like each other and will argue in front of students. Students are bullied on a daily basis by other students and teachers and the administration does nothing about it. If you can....run as far away as you can from EHMS. You would be better sending your child to West Hoke Middle if you must...or better yet...send them to a private school or homeschool. Your child will have a miserable existence here and will receive a sub par education...if any.

HOW is this school rated 7 out of 10?!?! This is by far the WORST school I have ever had the misfortune of having one of my children attend! The faculty and staff are more disrespectful than the children that go there! Ignorance is abundant as well as an attitude from the people in the office to the teachers themselves! For all of you out there considering this school for your children, your best bet id to get out of Hoke County as fast as you can!
