Overall, Sandy Grove Middle School is a great school to attend. I am grateful for the schools staff, they can accommodate my needs, while also making sure each student are treated equally, they also make sure the students learning and though they can be strict sometimes, they simply just want to ensure that the students are doing well as far as grades and behavior.I also enjoy the variety of electives that they provide as well as extra curricular activities, giving me time to learn while also doing the things I love. On the other hand, I do think this school has room to improve by enforcing rules more strongly and also allowing parents to be included in different events and being more active with the parents informing them with what going on around the school.

I would rate this a 0 if I could. This school is unorganized and a mess. They allow kids to curse in class, bully other kids, allow them on there phones, etc. Fights also happen very often at this school to. This school also has mice! They don't even have a safe nor clean learning environment. Don't even have a proper cafeteria where kids can eat. The kids have to eat in the classrooms... The teaching techniques are so bad istg.. They get very low scores. I would not recommend this school for your child. The teachers are just plain rude, so are the children. These children don't get good home training. This school doesn't even expel the worst kids. I regret even coming to this school. Unorganized, a mess, etc. I wish I never came here... I already know everything that they're learning. Down here in NC, they are so slow. I hate this school..

This is the worst school ever! The teachers do not treat students equal to there gender (mildly) they usually treat females better than males. And leadership and respect is total baloney. Teachers are very rude. one time I was going to the nurse and when I came they scolded me of trying to escape the class when I had an infection in my nose that had been bothering me!

Very rude
Do not treat children fair. They treat them all as if they have done something wrong before they have done anything.

This school allows the teachers to belittle and bully the kids . Shows no respect to the child so how is the child supposed to learn respect?

My son is white. He was bullied by a teacher most of the year, and his race was brought up EVERY SINGLE time. Reverse discrimination.

No. He had to learn it one way. Even if he got the same answer, it was incorrect if he did not arrive at the answer the way the teacher did. You know, our country would not survive if everyone did everything the same way. I teach him to be creative and "think outside that box", so he was not punished for his work at home. Only at school. Thankfully he scored high on the EOG's. I'm sure they think this was due to the teacher, but I promise, it WAS NOT.

On a scale of 1-10, definitely less than a 3. Two good teachers does NOT a school make.....
And, I complained about the teacher humiliating my son in front of the class. I even had 2 other students give their testimony on what happened on a regular basis. She left him alone for about 3 weeks afterwards, but other than that, I'm just glad he will no longer be in her class. I feel sorry for the next child she targets. If you challenge her decision, be ready for your child to be targeted for bullying.

7th Grade ELA and Science teachers were great. Health and Social Studies were the worst he's ever had.

I love the staff at SGMS. I have two kids at SGMS and they love the school too. We are sad to hear the principal and several teachers will be leaving. Maybe all the negative parents will someone else to blame for lack of progress of their child. I was raised the grass is not always green on the other side. Ask the some of the parents at East as well as teachers since many of them are leaving as well due to lack of support.

Rude, discouraging, and unorganized would be the 3 words I would use to describe this school.

My daughter has gone to the school for two years. I am pretty happy with the teachers, except when they take over two weeks to respond to an email. The principal only returns calls to those of her same race. The teachers bully kids and allow bullying to go on often. I am so tired of my child being referred to as a white child, it would be great to just call her as her name. The principal calls and leaves weekly announcements and cannot speak English properly, if a principal does not know how to properly say messages to families what does that tell you about the school? I think the whole school would not be having many problems if they hired a new principal.

To the poster on October 1st. I have a seizure disorder and am not allowed to drive myself anywhere. The children's father works full time and goes to school at night during the week. Unfortunately going to a Title I night is just not on my list. It is the schools responsibility to teach my child, protect him from being assaulted and stolen from. Save your judgemental attitude. This site is for honest reviews and mine was 100% accurate. You are so defensive about the school.....do you work there?

I have had a good experience so far at the Middle School. This is my son's second and last year. He had a problem with a teacher, but I contacted the principal and she took care of it immediately and like the parent that wrote a comment on 073014, I received a call back the same day as well. She followed up with our concerns and handled it very professional. She seems to be a no nonsense principal, for students and teachers alike. I would recommend that if you have any trouble contact Mrs. Fortenberry. So far it's been excellent for me and my child. She respects the children and from what I can see they respect her!

With the school only being open this year, we had high hopes. However, as with East Hoke Middle School, there are teachers that have no business being in the teaching field. They are rude, condescending, and single children out in front of the class. One teacher has been reported as saying, "What are you going to do....tell your Dad on me again?" or teachers of different races calling students "white boy". This makes for a hostile learning environment for many kids. Of course, some kids have a thicker shell than others and can stand the bullying from children and teachers; however, many cannot and their grades show. As we have no other option at the moment then public school, I am hoping next year is better.
