Our experience with North Carolina Virtual Academy started out well but declined significantly after the first year.

Kindergarten was wonderful. My daughters teacher genuinely cared about her students. She was compassionate, engaged, and always available to help. I still remember her showing up to teach even while caring for her sick daughter. She made us feel like our child truly mattered.

First grade was a completely different experience. Class sizes grew to well over 100 students, and it was obvious the teachers were overwhelmed. One teacher was responsible for huge numbers of students across subjects, making it nearly impossible to provide meaningful individual support.

My daughter struggled because she wasnt receiving the attention or engagement she needed. She felt like just another number instead of a student. Later, she was diagnosed with autism and began receiving ABA therapy along with one-on-one tutoring. That individualized support completely changed everything. She caught back up to grade level and is now performing above grade level, proving she was always capable she simply needed the right support and instruction.

In our experience, this school failed to provide the level of education and individualized attention that many children, especially those who learn differently, require. The massive class sizes and lack of engagement made it difficult for students to thrive.

Based on our familys experience, I cannot recommend North Carolina Virtual Academy to parents who are looking for a strong, supportive educational environment. Every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and challenged not like theyre just another enrollment number. One thing Ive learned through this experience is that you can be the best Learning Coach in the world and put in hours every single day with your child, but you cant make up for poor instructional quality. Parents can reinforce lessons, encourage their children, and provide extra practice, but if the curriculum, class sizes, and instruction arent meeting students needs, theres only so much a family can do. A strong education requires both involved parents and a school that delivers quality teaching. Children deserve both! We havent looked bad since :)

Amazing school! Highly qualified Teachers! Learning Coaches must do their part to help the child succeed! We can't put it all on the teachers virtual or not. Excellent guidance counselors, extra support if needed and an amazing advisor. My 1st grader still loves this school. He has grown tremendously and that's because of his teachers as well as me as his learning coach who gives extra support to make sure he understands the material. Love this school!!!!

This is an amazing school, wonderful and caring teachers and staff. My kids are being taught in all their subjects that they werent in an actual brick and mortar school. My children are thriving and have learned so much! We love this school!

I would advise against enrolling, in this institution based on the feedback of a student who has skipped a grade and consistently strived for academic excellence. While some instructors genuinely care about their students others seem to view their roles at the North Carolina Virtual Academy (NCVA) as secondary to their occupations. The institution maintains safety standards. There are uncertainties surrounding the effectiveness of its special education programs.

NCVA faces challenges with student truancy, which is compounded by instances of dishonesty that are quite prevalent. The quality of education provided is noticeably subpar and characterized by a reliance on the platform called "Nearpod." This platform often substitutes teaching with video presentations accompanied by questions. Additionally some educators have attendance. Occasionally miss a class each week. Together these factors create an environment at NCVA that's less than ideal, for learning.

My son has cancer and he had learning problems and I do not recommend this school at all.. I'm removing my son from this school they do not help him at all for extra help they tell me do what he can.. I'm sorry but they been passing him through grades I'm not having that for my son..and got MTSS math teacher has said it against law to remove my son from her class and the school she fixing be reported for threaten me.. I thought this school was great and cared for kids that needs extra help my os going to new school..

If I could give 0 stars I would. Where to begin? The teachers show up when they want to. The administration(I never even figured out who that was) does not respond to emails, does not give a flying flip about anything. They have so much turnover even during the year. If you go here be prepared to put your patience pants on and keep them on. They also have a lot of underperforming kids so they spend 2 months on test prep-so not much learning actually occurs. I could write a book, but basically this place is terrible, and if you find out the hard way I will just say I told you so.

I will never ever recommend this school to anyone by no means go to a regular school or a private this is not a full time school so if you have a child that's struggling in school please do your child a favor and get your child the help they need by enrolling them in a school that can help them I experience teachers hiding behind cameras monitor my child it's scary please don't do it

I have two middle schoolers in NCVA. We are satisfied with the experience overall. My older child has been admitted to a local early college for next year, but if not he would have continued in NCVA. My younger child will continue for the duration of middle school. The downside is that few elective options and advanced courses are available, but we are all still content with what is offered and the relationship they have built with their teachers. They are able to finish their work within the recommended 6 hours daily without feeling overloaded. Staff are available for help if needed. Textbooks and materials were sent upon enrollment and all were of good quality. 5 stars- better than their former public school.

They withdrew my son without any proper notification, his IEP needs were fulfilled. They had him in speech therapy as a part of his IRO for whatever reason that still doesn't make sense to anyone that viewed his IEP. I do lot understand how the school still holds on to its accreditation

My son has been a student at NCVA since he was in kindergarten. He is now in sixth grade, and I couldnt be happier with NCVA. The teachers and staff have always strived to provide the best education possible. My sons scores on EOGs are above average for his grade and state. People around me seem to have a negative view of online school and Ive never understood why. Ive heard people say its too hard, but its just about the parent being more hands on as a learning coach. My son spends about 6-8 hours of school work and I spend about 3 hours just checking on him and making sure he is understanding what he learning. I chose online school for the benefits of the curriculum and the larger part of involvement I could have in his education. I love that NCVA had given my son confidence, perseverance, and the passion to learn more.

This is not a fully online school. This doesn't work for my family. I waisted my time with them. They don't respect the covid-19 pandemic.
