My minor son, a freshman, was injured during a PE class after being pushed mid-air by an 18-year-old senior who was not even in the class and had just been released from weightlifting.

My son required medical care and has been in a splint for weeks, dealing with pain and missed activities. He faced real consequences.

The student who caused the injury faced no known disciplinary action.

Instead of accountability, the school focused on deflection and treating a disputed version of events as fact. The response appeared more concerned with protecting the school than protecting students.

Parents deserve transparency and accountability when their children are injured at school. Based on this experience, I would urge families to ask serious questions before trusting this institution with their child’s safety.

As a parent, I am disappointed in how often decisions are made that don’t seem to take the best interests of children—or their families—into account. Important events are scheduled during times when most parents are working, making it extremely difficult to support our kids. For example, opening days and even some sports tryouts are held during working hours, which prevents many students from having equal opportunities simply because their parents cannot leave work.

Most recently, the decision to cut off homecoming ticket sales without allowing flexibility left many students upset and disappointed. This was supposed to be a milestone experience for them, and instead it became another barrier.

Schools should be places where children feel supported, included, and considered—not left out because of logistical oversights. I hope in the future there will be more effort to plan in ways that respect both students’ needs and the realities of working families.

We drive our daughter "out of district" to attend Richlands High because it's that great of a school. The teachers are invested in students succeeding. It's the best high school in the area. They're amazing and truly care. There's great, open communication between staff and parents. we love that there are several clubs students and join and the athletics program is awesome too!

For 4 years I drove my son to and from school, because we live out of district, so he could go to Richlands for the Engineering program. He made amazing lifelong friends and obtained an amazing education that led him to get into the college of his choice with a scholarship. The staff is amazing and administrators are wonderful. They're there for any questions or concerns you may have.

If you take AP classes, like my son did, you will be issued a lot of homework.

During the 4 years of my child attending Richlands we only had an issue with one teacher not explaining calculus problems.

overall it got me what I needed to get into a college but it did a very poor job of allowing me to prepare myself for what I am majoring in.

Normally teacher use homework as a way to keep students busy instead of practicing skills

Many of the students there do not respect teacher or other students.

The school cares a lot more about how many students are in the agriculture or engineering program than they care about preparing the students for a field of study in college.

I love my high school! Being a military brat we move A LOT!! But I couldn't be happier at this high school! Easy to make friends and teachers are nice.

At first I thought the school was amazing. But then I saw its true colors. The teachers witness bullying and yet do nothing and when students come to them it makes it worse not better. Most of the teachers do not help to prepare you for the exams. I find myself having to self teach myself a chapter we were supposed to learn months ago five days before exams. The school revolves around sports. I was at first excited to come here hoping I would not face what I would have also faced at another high school, but find myself deeply disappointed.

This school is a joke. Limited opportunities, boring teachers, rude people. I've never experienced so much racism, and discrimination before in my life. If you're new here, I'd consider homeschooling instead. Stay away from this school!

Unless you plan on being every teacher's favorite, don't go here. This school caters to only a select few individuals and the rest get ignored. Most of the teachers seem to be burdened with the chore of teaching and interacting with students, and some will openly talk rudely about a student behind their back with other students - incredibly unprofessional! There are only a select few teachers that really care and want to help the students learn. The only redeeming quality this schools has is probably its art program, but even that leaves a lot to be desired. The guidance counselors have got to be the worst I've ever seen or heard of. One cost be a $1000 scholarship because he couldn't be bothered to print out my transcripts within a week of when I asked him, and then he lied about having them ready before and even calling me over the intercom to go and get them. I've only ever seen the other standing around and chatting to other people in the office. In summarty, DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL.

Look, I am a senior at this school and I think an honest review should be given. Other than the great principle and a select number of teachers, the administration largely does not care about the student body. The guidance department is the biggest joke on campus. Despite having two guidance counselors, the guidance department seems completely unable to carry out the simple task of aiding seniors and underclassmen in the tasks they need completed. For example, there is little to no college prep, scholarship opportunities, or even help with class selection. The limited class selection is sure to put off any transfer students, although the online class system provided by NCVPS helps to alleviate some of the limited class choices. Do not come in to this school expecting much. If you are the parent of a child who is intelligent, please consider a different school. The work ethic at this school does not wholly promote college or even national high school standards. If your child is not the brightest, or has a lower work ethic, please think about a different school. Your child will have no room for improvement, I assure you. Please accept this honest review. I am looking out for you.

If you're non-white, you will see a lot of discrimination at this school. My son experienced it on a daily basis by students, and sadly by teachers as well. There was no positive reinforcement by his teachers, specifically one who would make indirect comments to my son. There is a lot of favoritism as well. If you're different, be prepared to face these challenges.

I love this school. My child comes back every day with good news from how much he loves the school and how the teachers treat him. This is a great school I enjoy my child going to this school. This school offers so many oppurtunities to the students; giving them great chances to follow their dreams and ambitions. The campus itself is pretty small in size, but they use the space offered as best as they can.

If you are transferring to this school...think twice! We transferred from out of state and have had nothing but problems with transfer of credits. We trusted the counselor would schedule my children correctly as requirements are very different here. My child was scheduled wrong by the counselor, which led him to not graduate on time. The principal is just as useless as he has no clue either! The school is old, outdated and way too small. My advice...stay far away from this school if you want your children to have a great educational experience!

We love the opportunities the school has to offer. They offer Honors class, AP(Advance Placement) classes, and have an Engineering Academy as well as a Health Sciences Academy. So they can meet the needs of all academic levels of their students. Many opportunities to even be dual enrolled at high school and college during the school day for seniors, can't beat that. My son doesn't want to go anywhere else. Their are so many sports teams baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, golf, swimming, cross country, track...Fine arts abound as well. We love the friendly staff who keep you posted on the classroom via email as well as keep their websites up dated with assignments & more. It is a small town school with big time opportunites.
