My child has not had a positive learning experience at Bugg. I remained hopeful after the new principal came but I have not seen any positive results.

The teachers at this school are highly qualified, passionate and wonderful. Unfortunately, they are not supported in the way that they should be by the administration, and the behavior issues at the school make it difficult for them to be as effective as they could be. I believe that the teachers at Bugg are as effective as they can be with the limited resources they have been given and extreme challenges they face.

My son began Kindergarten at Bugg and stayed for 1st grade. The behavior was so out of control and the teachers were so overwhelmed in trying to keep order in their classrooms that it was difficult for them to teach effectively. Bugg had wonderful teachers, but many of them left in 2015 and many more left after the 2016 school year. There are still wonderful teachers at Bugg, but if the administration and WCPSS do not take drastic measures to improve the behavior problems in this school, it will continue to fail. Our family found this school dangerous and ineffective. I transferred my son to another school for the 2016-17 school year and he is thriving. I truly hope for the students' sake that the school district and current administration take the behavior issues at this school extremely seriously and make necessary changes before someone gets seriously hurt.

My son attended Bugg for 2 years, Kindergarten and 1st grade and he was severely bullied, and we transferred him to another school for the 2016-17 school year because of this..I spoke with his teachers as well as the principal, but they do not take the behavior issues at the school seriously enough.

The behavior at Bugg is out of control and the students are very disrespectful to each other and to the teachers overall.

This school is really going downhill, well it actually has gone downhill. From the Administration to the teachers. Academically, it's not doing great. Just check out their tests scores. There are plenty of other great schools but this is not one of them. It's not all bad, some parent have great experiences. My child has enjoyed some of their programs. They really had an opportunity to pull it together but they have not done so I know for the past 4 years. Also, they do not know how to discipline the children at all. There are plenty of fights. For a lot of them, the teachers are not around as witnesses. The school was on track when new teachers and the interim principal came in for about two months for the 2017-2018 school year. After that I have not seen the new principal do anything to be effective in turning the school around. She stands back and observes instead of greeting and introducing herself to parents. She is the new principle but she has not put forth much effort to get to know the population by which she serves! So sad. Bugg could be doing so much more. Also, next year they will probably have to change their Magnet focus. A school without a vision!

Classroom teachers and Multiple Intelligence teachers this year collaborated to design learning opportunities for all students that integrated Science with the Creative Arts (dance, drama, art, PE, music, 21st century spanish lab, media, and STEAM). I am a current teacher at Bugg Creative Arts and Science Magnet. When looking to move into the Raleigh area, I specifically sought out Bugg so I could be a part of their school community. I have taught at this school for a few years and thoroughly enjoy this school. The staff is truly a family which I admire being that my actual family is out of state. It is really a home away from home once I was able to join this school. Bugg is unique in the fact that we offer a variety of Multiple Intelligence influenced classes for all students to experience. I have seen how students blossom in their learning when they are able to show their knowledge through their “smarts.”
Bugg hosts a variety of exclusive events that students enjoy. College Bound is one of those events, where we take the traditional school “Field Day” and integrate college readiness with Academic, Arts, and Physical activities geared towards students planning for their collegiate futures. My favorite Bugg event has to be our annual school wide performance at Walnut Creek Amphitheater. The arts influenced learning that takes place during the school year is displayed at this large venue. I have seen first-hand how students light up when given the opportunity to take the spotlight after a deeply engaging academic year.

I work at Bugg, and it is a dangerous place to be. Discipline is totally out of control, and as a result test scores are falling. The latest science test scores were at ten percent. No real learning takes place and it is not a safe place for students or teachers. Parents beware! There is no sign that it is getting better.

I have had 2 students graduate from Bugg Elementary and I have two currently attending. They have thrived at this school and are continuing to thrive, academically and socially. There are pros and cons to everything in life. You can choose to have a positive outlook on things and have a growth mindset or you can choose to have a negative mindset. I know that my children are receiving an excellent education that is being integrated with Arts and with caring teachers. Kudos to the hard working staff and involved parents.

My child has attended this school for the past 4 years and the 214-2015 school year has been BY FAR the worse. In my opinion this school as rapidly declined in morals and values. What was once a family oriented school under the awesome leadership of Mr. Armstrong is now an unorganized mess. Mr. Armstrong is no longer the principal. He was absolutely amazing. The children respected him and knew him because he was very hands on. I have stopped by the school several times this school year and never once saw the principal. I just saw her for the first time two days before school was out for the summer. Some of the children have no clue who she is. I am so very disappointed at how far gone this school is. I have randomly spoken to some teachers at the school and the 6 that I spoke to all stated that they are doing everything they can to transfer to a new school to teach. These teachers all have at least 6 years of teaching experience. Some have already found teaching jobs elsewhere. None of the teachers that have been there since my child started stayed to teach this year. The turnover rate is ridiculous. Please do your research before sending your child to ANY school but especially this school. If your child is in school here please do regular unannounced visits. I hope that this school turns around FAST.....because at the rate that it is headed....HELP us all. These children are not getting what they need. -Disappointed Parent

When Mr. Micheal Armstrong left the" family oriented" feel of the school left with him. First, the incorrect time for the "meet the teacher" had parents waiting for at least and hour in the heat. No one came to apologize, greet the parents, or at least allow parents to wait in the building from what I saw and experienced. School website has not been updated, I was even able to find the teacher's email due to the page for my student's grade level having the incorrect teachers and their email. Meet the teacher previously had great informational sessions informing parents of what to expect during the year, this year it was more of a "hi take your paper and bye" situation. Communication has been a great disappointment. Usually before testing parents would receive a message stressing the importance of the children being on time and just keeping us up to date in general--did not receive any of that at all for the recent testing. I understand this is a transitional period but as a new principal to this school I would have partnered with the existing principal to keep the momentum going. Does not seem as if that was done in this case.

My daughter attends Bugg Elementary. The staff is amazing and the school itself is great! It is definitely lacking diversity .If it had more diversity I think the school would have better ratings. Mr. Armstrong is an outstanding principal and goes above and beyond for the school.

Bugg is AMAZING! Arts, science, diversity-- you name it! I have been involved with Bugg for 6 years now and I would never switch schools! I'll be so sad when the experience is over :( I love it! Oh and kuddos to Mr. Armstrong!

The rating does not do this school justice. My sons have attended a neighborhood school in North Raleigh and I am WAY more satisfied with Bugg from the first year than I was ever was in the other school. I see reviews that claims this school lacks diversity,if by diversity you are speaking of race, this could be due to the screwed up school districting and the fact that it is located in an actual neighborhood. I am here to tell you they are very rich in culture. You will not be able to find a family oriented environment like this one. One of my sons performs above level the other below and this school has the resources to adequately accommodate both of them. The teachers make me feel as if it is a partnership and the staff actually seem to like working there! Mr. Armstrong is a great principal. I am glad my boys are there! The oldest is shy and with his participation in the ball handlers club and morning news, I am seeing more confidence in him. Also, alot of parents at this school are working class so there is no favoritism shown towards the child of the "classroom mom" who usually is a stay at home mother that remains in the classroom (all the time) with her child.

Bugg Elementary is a good school. The teachers and administration are very engaged with our students. Diversity is an issue not because of the school but a symptom of the changes in the magnet school system assignment. If you think this is an issue, wait until all schools (not just the magnets) suffer at the hands of the current Wake County Board of Education's lack of vision on diversity. We have been at this school for several years. My belief is that the education is only as good as the partnership and participation of the parents. All of the tools are there for your child to succeed (quality teachers, sound administrative practices, etc), the question becomes what do you as a parent bring to the equation?

Bugg is a wonderful school. My two children are so excited and can hardly wait to go to school each day. They have wonderful teachers who trruly care about my children. Bugg has so many programs that are academically sound and exciting for my children. This year, the have had an Evening of Stars. My child also participates in the Ball Handlers Club and is on the Step Team. The principal is always trying to improve the school. She knows our children and is works hard to provide the best for them. I wish that there were more schools like Bugg Creative Arts and Science Magnet School.
