Reedy Creek engages the student families through sports events, school tours, or tutoring sessions (tutoring is a free option for any student who requires it if wanted. It's provided at the school). The counselors are always ready to help and support you in whatever you need, and although some teachers may be a little strict, they only mean the best for you.

When I went here it had water bugs crawling in there and stuff and it was nasty man and the teachers blame you for everything I was wearing a hellfire shirt from stranger things so many good compliments the old principal was fine but the new one on no he made me wear a sweatshirt in spring and I was getting milk and he yelled at me for getting milk and a spoon. Dont let your kids go here because it ain't fair here.

Let me preface this with a couple of things. School comes easy to my child, not all people are so lucky. Middle school is all about transition. It is an awkward time in kids lives as they figure out who they are and gain independence. Middle school is clumsy and disjointed everywhere. It is the nature of young teens.
I had heard rumors about the school being full of bullies and ‘thugs’ (not my word), and was cautious about sending my son there. After taking a tour and learning what the school had to offer, I was satisfied and decided to give it a fair chance.
Pros: Great principal who loves and respects the kids. Long list of electives that range from life skills to robotics. Lots of clubs, sports, and extra curricular activities to get involved in. And the kids do. Great communication from teachers. Advisors that rise through the school with your child’s class. Diversity, school pride, and technology enabled.
Cons: Not a whole lot of money for sports equipment and/or facility upgrades. Very weak booster club (brand new a couple years ago). Maybe not enough homework. Of course there was bullying and fights (mostly girls from what I heard) but that is everywhere. Much worse activity and self harm was happening at other affluent schools in the area.
At the end of the day, RCMMS is a real life middle school. It is very diverse in its student population, both ethnically and economically. Life is not perfect and neither is any school. My son was well prepared for high school, made some great friends, took a lot of classes and learned what he likes and doesn’t like so much, and most importantly has gained some real life experiences.

My son rarely had homework all 3 years. However, he is one of those kids who does it in class or any other opportunity he has so that he can do extra curricular activities and not have homework at night.

My son got A/B honor roll every semester. He had mixed feelings about the teachers as most kids do. He loved the gym teacher who was also the football coach. There was less interaction from teachers than elementary school but that is to be expected. A weekly newsletter came out faithfully and really helped keep parents informed.

Athletes are required to dress up on game/meet days. They know that school work comes first and that all came from the teachers. My child was proud to go to RCMMS.

No experience with bullying outside of the normal teenager stuff. Name calling, trading, etc... They have an anti bullying week and a fun run called Creek Madness - the kids really get involved and enjoy it.

Good communication from teachers during our first year (6th). Projects geared toward students' interests as much as possible. My daughter often seemed interested in subjects that her teachers discussed.

Sixth graders have clear homework listed on their teachers' websites and also communicated weekly by email with progress and assignments as well as upcoming projects/subjects being discussed that week. Seventh grade has started off well with weekly homework schedules for the core classes.

Overall, we have had a great experience at RCMMS. There's a good diversity of backgrounds both among staff and students. Organization and administration seems fair and appropriate. Many unique electives and after school activities.

Almost everyday I witness someone getting bullied. Verbal bullying is common at this school, and there have been several fights over the years.

I dislike this school. Most students are miserable, and some teachers aren’t helpful. The only positives are the homework, and electives/programs.

The teachers are amazing except for a tiny bunch. They teach normal subjects and are fair with the amour of classwork given to you, except for some teachers which constantly give you work but not homework, making it a stress for you to be in their class.

The school does not give enough homework. As a student myself, most weeks I do not get much homework at all. I go out for some days and it is hard to catch up with the work, because not all teachers are willing to help people individually. The school definitely needs to give out homework, at least 4 times a week. Math is the subject homework is given the most. The school is not too challenging.

The school has good morales. The school teaches the children well, and there are more than several teachers who are willing to care for their students, but are not able to because of the trouble-making students not caring about the school or their education in general.

RCMS has come a very far way from where it originated. Reedy Creek in previous years had chaotic kids, and it still does. The test scores for this school are overall bad, because of most of the children in the school not caring at all about their education. There is a lot of children in this school that treat others well and are very quiet and respectful to the teachers, and in the long run help teachers a huge amount RCMS is overall a very good school. The bullying is a minor issue. The staff and new principle, Mr. Evans, is very friendly and knows what he is doing and how to make this school efficient. The school will soon be turning into a Magnet school in the category of Technology, and will bring the grades up high. If you are thinking of a new school to go to, don't enroll your students this year, but wait until the year of 2016-2017.

My family has been very pleased with our experience at Reedy Creek Middle. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The band program is impressive. The principal is very involved with the various schools' activities and is always present and accessible. He makes a point of knowing each child and is very focused on making the school the best it can be. My children have never been bullied and have excelled in both academics and the arts (band, drama). My oldest transitioned to high school this year and was well-prepared for that transition. The school has made a dramatic improvement over the last three years (since the new principal took over), and I look forward to seeing the exciting changes ahead as it becomes Cary's first magnet middle school.

I am now on my second child that has attended Reedy Creek Middle and we have had a great experience. The former principal left much to be desired but I will say that my first child that went through during his time still succeeded with wonderful teachers and continues to succeed in high school so no real harm was done. The current principal, Mr. Evans, came in 3 years ago and has completely changed the atmosphere of the school. He cares so much about the students and wants the school to transform into something great. He is always open to parent suggestions and responds back quickly to emails. He has made some really great hires for new teachers. The school has had lower than desired test scores but that is a reflection of the population of free and reduced lunch students at the school. To remedy the situation, the county has now named RCMS a magnet school starting in Fall 2016. The theme will be Computer Science/Computer Programming and the school hopes to attract students that want to incorporate these skills into their daily life and use them to help with future career decisions. RCMS continues to have an excellent band and unique Animal Science program. To me, the most worthwhile elective that my oldest took was Peer Helpers where they got to work with the ID-MOD classroom. It really opened his eyes to accepting the differences in people and their struggles. He loved getting to accompany the students to the Special Olympics to be their coach and cheer for them and he continues to work with special needs children in the community through things like Miracle League baseball. It was a life lesson that we could have never taught him otherwise. The school's operating hours of 8:15am-3pm work better with my RCMS student's schedule so he can sleep in a little longer than his friends at other schools and aligns better with the time my elementary student gets out of school. The school has a very strong, committed, and welcoming PTA. Ignore the old, out-of-date comments on this site and send your child to school at RCMS - I have one more that I will not hesitate to send to RCMS under its current leadership!

Reedy Creek has come a long way in the last couple years. Even though the school has had poor leadership in the past, my children had a positive experience and excelled in high school. I expect the same from my child currently attending RCMS. The Principal, Mr. Evans, has done a great job of hiring new staff, building a solid team, and improving academics and communication between teachers and parents. He is committed to improving the school in all areas. With the announcement of the magnet school status, RCMS will continue to grow and prepare students for high school. I highly recommend RCMS!

Cons: Low security. A child was abdicated from the school during a school assembly and no one noticed. The school did nothing to help the family and tried to bury the incident under lies to conceal it from the public. Police and the media were notified, but the principal went out of his way to brush the incident off so that there would not be public awareness. Pros: The district fired the principal for his involvement in the kidnapping. I would think that the new principal is fantastic, I trust that he is. Nevertheless, the school has a long way to go before it can be deemed safe for kids. Our schools need to be considerably safer. Update: Former principal Flowers has fled the county and will likely never work in Wake County again. Good riddance. No parent should have to endure what that man put two parents through. Thankfully, the child was found, retrieved, and safe.

One word to describe RCMS... Ordinary. There is nothing real special about this middle school. Teachers at RCMS are really good (in my experience), they know how to teach a class. You might see that the test scores are below average for Wake County and NC, but it's not their faults, it's the students who chose not to care about school. All of those students don't try most of the time and just don't like learning. They don't even like fun learning games on their phones. Luckily, not all students are like that. The extracurriculars include clubs, such as drama club, run club, wildlife club, art club, etc. and sports. The drama club puts on a yearly spring production. Sports are for both boys and girls in seventh and eighth grade. There is band for sixth through eighth graders. Yeah.. No school uniform is required, however, there is a moderately strict dress code that is not hard to follow. Breakfast and lunch is served daily. See, just an ordinary school. Bullying occurs here (what's new?) but staff treat it responsibly. Even though I get bullied (social exclusion and occasion name calling/teasing) and even hate it here sometimes, it would be the same anywhere else. Hope this helps!

I am going to give you an honest review so please listen up. The positives at RCMS. The Band Teacher and the Band Program are just awesome. he really cares & does an outstanding job. RCMS had a lot of afterschool student/parent functions that my child really enjoyed. Now the negatives. I had to hound in order to get any information concerning my daughter this year. Trying to advocate for your child or get information regarding anything at the school is non existent. My daugther doesn't want to go to school (she loves school btw), has missed more days than she ever has, her grades went from straight A(s) to making C (s) & D., she & many of her friends get bullied so bad it would break your heart. I could go on & on. I am trying to transfer her out of there as she has wasted a whole school year year not reaching her potential. Just wish the Band Teacher would go teach at the High School level cause as I stated, he is the one positivity RCMS has going.

I see that a review I posted last year has been removed. I will state here again what I stated in that review and have had a year more of Reedy Creek. I have to say that the band teacher is excellent and really takes time out to work with the students at Reedy Creek. Now as far as the teaching staff, there are some that are decent, and others not so. I am really not that impressed with what the school has to offer. When I wrote my last review, there was a different principle, the one who was supposed to be "cleaning" things up there, well he has since left and we have a new principle. Next year will be my son's last year and I do have concerns that he won;t be prepared for High School. He is in the AG program at Reedy Creek, but the teachers are not that good in regards to communicating with parents. Let's see if this second review gets removed. Just note, if you are new to the area or the school, do your homework, there are other alternatives for your children to get educated properly. Thanks.

I'm an 8th grader and also have LD (learning disability) but I don't have curriculum assistance anymore and reedy creek can be fun but it's the choices the teachers make and there is bullying in the school but not that much in my grade mostly in the lower grades because most of them are still immature and try to act "cool" but all you really need is a couple of friends and your alright but a lot of teachers don't care about what happens to the students or some teachers don't really care or you can clearly tell when they have a favorite. Some teachers are pretty awesome like our Spanish teacher and some other core teachers that actually care about your grade

The gym activites are OK they make us run in the cold and alot. They should do less going outside in the cold and more pacer or inside activites or they can do free choice because why do we have to go outside it is still running .

RCMS is getting better but still have a few problems to work through. Most of the teachers are working hard to turn this school around. The pricipal is doing a great job with the circumstances he was given. The PTA is very strong. The PTA board members are working hard to make this school a better place for the teachers and students too. I would like to see more technology used and I would also like to see more field trips for the students.. I think RCMS is on its way to being a great school.

I have listened to many parents say very negative things & hear Reedy Creek Middle is one of WORST schools on Wake Cnty!!! Surprise, it's also in CARY! However the GOOD NEWS is it FINALLY has a NEW PRINCIPAL. Please change this school! Good luck! Welcome to NC..lol

RCMS has a very strong band program with a band teacher that puts in countless hours outside the school day for the 300+ students that participate in the program. That is the only quality arts program at the school. The academics at the school receive a "1" as a rating. My child was an 8th grader this past academic year & the quality of the teaching was terrible. When my student, who asked the Language Arts teacher for additional work to better understand the topic, has a teacher respond that "if you wanted more work you should have gone to a better school," then you know there is something wrong with the quality of the education your child is receiving. There is a new principal coming for the next academic year. He will have his hands full with trying to turn around the school. When you have teachers assigned to after school activities/sports, that say to parents and students, "I don't get paid to do this," or "I don't have time to do this," then why would the students or parents put forth any effort to participate. This middle school has the reputation around town as the worst middle school in Cary. Our child was not adequately prepared for high school.

This school is absolutely terrible. It's full of "thugs" and bullies. My daughter had to be transferred to a different school because of it. I do NOT recommend this school at all. The teachers are mean and bad at teaching, too.

My daughter hates this school, and so did my 3 older daughters who also went to RCMS. There is fights everyday, mainly physical. The buses are out of control and many disturbing fights and scenes that the bus drivers do not take action in. I've been bullied for 2 years straight now physically hurt and scared, and mentally broken. Ive reported bullying over and over again, and I still wait for the adults and principle to take action and do their job to make sure their students are safe. The staff is unreliable and don't do what students and parents have constantly requested.The bullying at this school is out of control and isn't a place to send your child. Please don't send your children here.

I have 2 in HS that went to RCMS and now I have one in sixth grade. So we have been going to RCMS for almost 7 years now and I can tell you the school is on the decline. They cannot keep good teachers, some of the good ones that my sons had are now gone and my daughters teachers do not even send emails. I can't speak of fights or bullying, but I do see that the teachers and principal simply do not care, just today they had an award ceremony for AB honor roll and the parents were not notified (yes my daughter received an award). They have a new band director and he seems to be great! Getting the kids very involved, unfortunately my daughter is not in band. They also have a new security officer and she is wonderful, other than that the school is going down hill.

August 27, 2012. A student is abducted from the school. The school was placed on red alert that morning due to a threat of abduction. The child was removed from an assembly by her captor without anyone noticing. She was then urged to forge her father's signature in the sign out book and left the building. In the same afternoon, principal Thurman Flowers told both the police and the media that the situation had "been resolved." Now, a week and a half later neither the principal nor his administration have called to check in on the child. The child has not been in school since the incident. They are still not home. The bottom line: The school is NOT safe. The principal's heinous actions in protecting himself over the child's wellbeing and safety has shown that the school has no intention of ever protecting it's children. I have tested the security several times over again, it's failed every time. KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE!!! STAY AWAY FROM DISTURBING PLACE!!!

This is my child's last year at this school...The admitstration is a disgrace, nothing is ever resolved and the bullying is awfull. Wish we were able to attend another school..There are maybe 5 electives, no class trips ...The children are always spoken down to...

My daughter has been a rcms student for 3 years now and is about to graduate. she comes home sayng theres always fights sometimes there are 10 to 15 fights a week but no one does anything about it. i dont recommend going to this school no one enforces the rules and its not a healthyenviroment!!

This is our first year at Reedy Creek Middle. We like it because it is a diverse school where parents seem to be involved. The teachers are available and seem to be open to interaction with parents. The Algebra teacher, Mrs. Shelfo, is excellent and they have a tutorial program after school for students taking Algebra I. The Principal seems to really care about improving the school and is accessible. My 2 concerns are with the number of times my child has had to redo an assignment after handing it in because the teacher said she didn't get it and the lack of homework. My child typically only has math and AR reading homework. I am concerned about them going to high school and all of a sudden having a lot of homework, something they will not be accustomed to .

I have a 6th grader at Reedy Creek this year, and we have been very happy with the academics, teachers, and administrators. There are some truly extraordinary teachers at this school.
