I mean I guess it’s a fine school? They have a LOT of electives and the teachers are…fine? If you’re a kid/parent who wants a HELPFUL and SUPPORTIVE teacher it really depends on which one you get. Some are better than others. They have an AMAZING arts programs with good teachers (though if you’re interested in dance, good luck with that). One major problem is the bullying. If you’re a kid who is like DIFFERENT from others, whether it be queer or just interested in “weird” things, you’re screwed. Some kids are fine, but many are quite obnoxious and even violent at times. Really the only other problem is vaping/fighting. Fights happen pretty much every few weeks, and kids DO IN FACT go to the bathroom to vape or just scroll on their phones. If you’re thinking about sending your kid here, make sure to remind them to SAY NO TO DRUGS. Also make sure that they have a way to contact a parent if they are going bus because that gets screwed up a lot. Otherwise it’s not a bad school, it doesn’t really have any problems that you wouldn’t find at any other school. In fact, it is a great school if your kid is interested in arts or wants a lot of clubs/electives to choose from.

The shortage of leadership and accountability at Leroy Martin Middle School is evident in the staff, area superintendent Ashburn, and teachers. If you want a secure and educationally sound environment, exploring other options might be best. However, if your goal is to ready your child for a career in the WWE or as a professional boxer, Leroy Martin Middle School could be the perfect choice.

If I could rate it 0 stars I would. The bullying here is absolutely disgusting and the teachers did nothing about it. There also are a lot fo other dangerous activities that occur that teachers do nothing about (school fights, cyber bullying, and vaping in class). At this school I notice that they treat minority groups and people really differently and try to separate them from the other kids. The teachers here aren't that good, there are some very good and memorable ones though. This school does have great electives, but coming from and alumni the electives don't effect or give you any life long knowledge. I highly recommend not to send your child here.

Im a student at martin and the school is pretty good. There is a decent amount of bullying there and they will bully you for the stupidest things. The teachers are good but they take FOREVER to reply to emails. The teachers are good and teach good (im a straight A kid) This school is very good and have a wide selection of electives to choose from. I have to say this one of the best magnet schools in North Carolina.

Dedicated teachers, love the choices in classes, and parents involvement. Would love to see more interaction but I get the teachers are busy. Still a great school overall and my son loves it here.

I saw the principal for the 3rd time yesterday, and my children have been there 3 years. The school just feels hollow, like it's going through the motions.

I just met the AIG teacher after three years at the school, and both my kids have had AIG designation in both math and english the entire time. They have had 3 pullouts (not by the AIG teacher) they were told were related to AIG -- 1 each year (meaning 1 30 minute session). So the school effectively has no AIG services.

We have definitely made some good friends and there have been some very dedicated teachers -- especially orchestra, German, chorus, science, and social studies. But overall, there isn't a warm feeling about the school. It is probably due to many factors -- some outside the control of the school. The staff and faculty seem tired and stressed much of the time, and this translates to the children and ultimately to their families. Part of the problem is that they don't have the resources to pay teachers to help with anything extra, and they seem to be restricted from effectively using volunteers, so a lot of school activities just don't happen or don't work well. For instance, at the beginning I volunteered with many other parents to supervise kids using the outdoor track before school to socialize and exercise. But the program fell apart because the "rule" was that a teacher had to supervise the volunteer parents, and no teacher was willing to do this (because they are already stretched so thin). This was one of 6 examples I can think of offhand where this kind of thing happened and a program fell apart. In the end, advocating for change and finding ways around rules like this falls to the principal, and although I believe she is trying, she does not have a strong presence and does not seem to be able to find solutions to these problems.

It is the policy of the MVP math program NOT to go over homework in class. Instead, the kids are given access to the answers and told to correct and figure out why they got items wrong on their own. This is not a good strategy for math and doesn't work. There have been lots of complaints county-wide about the MVP program, and teachers don't like it.

My overall sense is that teachers are trying but exhausted. There is a general lack of community feeling in the school, and that doesn't help boost teacher morale.

I've never heard anyone talk about character at the school, and certainly not compassion. Of course there are individuals who display these characteristics, without a doubt, but they come across as wonderful individuals and not reflecting the school as a whole.

my child is deaf.. other students bullying, set up trouble, also accusing on my child a lot. School not helpfully! The Teachers were good but not SKILLED ASL as our deaf culture or past time. But good enough but need more deaf culture and more. Also limited them pick one elective cant have two or more elective class unfair with hearing students.

Martin Middle school devastated and destroyed my child---not just her education. The experience of bullying scarred her for her life. Staff were of no assistance and basically did not care.

We've had three children go to this school. There has been quite an administrative change in the past two years. The school has gone from a small gifted and talented exceptional school, to one that is rigid and overcrowded. Leadership is weak. The principal is not supportive of the parents or students needs. The staff is very punitive. This school used to encourage creativity and unique thinking. We are not finding that any longer. Sadly, detention is a favorite tool to teach a child. With the exception of the music and theater program, we are sorely disappointed.

I went here for half of 7th grade and all of 8th grade. This school is nice. It's known for it's Visual and Performing Arts which is excellent except for there Dance team which in my opinion is horrible, there not together and all over the place but the Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Drama, and Arts program is excellent. The only thing negative I would have to say is that 8th grade year when I was in Chorus, I had paid for a chorus dress and didn't get it all year, and the chorus did not show any concern towards the issue so for the whole year, I had to wear all black pants and shirt. On the LAST day of school, the teacher gave my mom a refund and he didn't give it to me right away, he was signing year books and made me wait! He did not care at all! But overall, I had a great 1 1/2 years here at Martin Middle School. Pro's: The school is newly renovated. Great Visual and Performing arts program. Great Teachers Challenges Students Strict Teachers Teachers know how to handle bad behavior Con's: Nothing I can thing of.

First year in , here's our experience: Student with 3's in elementary comes home with straight A's. Totally motivated by teachers who are young, lively and creative. Ginormous list of electives to choose from each quarter. No bully issues, at all. Absolutely no Middle school transition blues, just complete sense of school pride. Savvy, smart, and fun leadership. Tons of parental involvement. If you can enroll your child here jump at it. EXCELLENT school!

I love martin middle I have had 2 sons and 3 daughters went through this school now my 1 is on her first year I think this school has improved much since my first so went there now 20 the administration got better I highly recommend martin middle to anyone.

My son is starting his second year at Martin, and we have been very happy. The school offers a plethora of electives - art, language, music, PE, you name it. The principal is wonderful. She is very involved with the children - she attends many sporting events. Overall, we feel like it is a safe place where my son can flourish. My only complain is the French department. I think the children could learn much more!

We were so pleased with Martin the first year, but this second year has been a disaster for our daughter. Bullying and teasing runs rampant at this school, and the administration does little to address this other than lump all the kids together, and blame the victim as well. We have heard this from numerous other parents as well, who are frustrated. There is poor communication between teachers and parents, lack of response to emails from parents, and poor behavior on the part of the teachers, who have modeled immature behavior to students and, in my opinion, reinforced the bullying that is taking place.

If your child has special needs, FORGET IT! They target special needs kids at this school for bullying and the principal and guidance staff do not care at all.

Our son attended Martin this past year. Our home school is Leesville. Martin is atrocious academically and as a positive learning environment. If this is truly a magnet school based on merit than the Wake County school system is REALLY in trouble! The teachers at Martin are a colossal, calamitous combination of incompetency and indifference (3 of our sons teachers spoke mostly of their imminent retirement plans!). We tried to pull our son back to Leesville but were put on a waiting list (despite being < 1 mile from the school) -- why, because Martin has unfilled openings -- hum!? This school is so bad they even swapped principals mid year! Take our advise, steer clear of the Martin mirage!

I went to Martin for my sixth grade year and it was great! The teachers were great and helped me when i needed it. When i was applying for the electives that i wanted, i was shocked. There were so many!. I had an A in modern dance, even though i couldn't (and still can't) dance to save my life. Overall, this school was terrific!
