I'm so thankful for this school. It is a small, close knit school and each year it just keeps getting better and better. The staff cares deeply about the children and families and the future success of the school.

Given the lack of government funding provided to public education, the teachers are very creative in the ways they deliver top notch instruction in the core curriculum, domains and electives such as elements of design, coding, robotics, dance art, drama, band, orchestra,. There are classes of interest for all of my children.

In the past, administration was not dealing with conflict and difficult students very well.. However, in the last year things have improved.

My children have had a great experience. They both enjoy and are excited to attend school each day which is important to me because I want them to develop a love for continuous learning. They have done very well on the EOG's eventhough I'm not a big fan of all the testing students have to do these days. I'm also glad my kids have the opportunity to explore so many interests at the elementary level.

We have enjoyed the new Play theme a lot. We love that this school is small and has a small community and family feel. Our child loves the domains and electives, including dance, drama, coding, engineering, and music. We are excited that the school is learning about Conscious Discipline. The librarian is constantly getting funded for Donor's Choose projects which add great new books to the library and supplies to electives. When you reach out to teachers and staff, they are always willing to work with you.

Students who cause problems consistently are not effectively disciplined. Many times the so called discipline involves punishing the who class for something a few kids did - sometimes lessons are shortened or skipped. The school used to be good but has declined. My now 5th grader started kindergarten here...my 5 year old will not be going here because of how bad it has gotten

We have been very happy at Powell. The electives they offer are great, especially the art and drama electives. There does seem to be a lack of parent involvement, which overall probably causes the low test scores at this school. Also I'm not sure about the discipline situation, as several of my child's classmates have had bullying issues that do not seem to be adequately addressed by the administration or teachers. My child has thrived in his years at Powell though, and we look forward to several more great years there.

Are we really proud of these test scores? I think not! The test scores should tell you about how this school is. I think 5/10 is giving them too much. Id say 3/10. This is a disgrace to our education system

I have 2 children at Powell and we love it! It provides my children with enriching electives which they absolutely LOVE! I am thrilled with the teachers. They are caring professionals who strive to make learning fun and challenging for both of my children. We have been at Powell for 4 years and have had a great experience at all grade levels! I would (and do) recommend Powell to all of my friends. If you're looking for a small school with an amazing family atmosphere, you MUST seriously consider Powell!

We are truly a family here at Powell... Teachers, Parents, Staff and Students working together! We are a small GT magnet school nestled inside the belt line. Creative and dedicated staff challenge students to think creatively, be innovative & problem solve through a wide variety of electives and classes.

This is a gem for Raleigh's youth. Smart, unwavering leadership. Caring teachers in their element. Active parental involvement. The small size helps the community feel like family. GT is equally challenging and inspiring; the electives are nothing short of awesome. We are blessed to be here at this time. Cannot say enough good things about this special learning environment and the people that make it all happen!

Powell Elementary has been my neighborhood/community school for all 5 of my children since 2001. As my last child enters I can only be thankful and appreciative of the warm and loving family feeling I get when I walk in the door. I have watched how the landscape and the staff have changed over the years but the spirit of the school is even stronger than ever. Powell has helped me raise and educated my families and communities future, my children. Thank you Powell and look forward to another exciting journey into learning!

My kid goes to Powell elementary and we think that the school is awesome. It is a relatively smaller school but that is a great plus because the kid gets individual attention. There are teachers with enormous experience and that explains that they are happy with the school management. If they find a kid talented in a particular area, they are identifying it and letting the parents also aware of it so that some more advanced focus is given. Similarly, if they find a weak area, they sure communicate with the parents. I highly recommend this school because of the strong focus that they emphasis on Reading, Math and science. The Principal is trying hard to improve the EOG scores from last year.

Powell has been a great school for my two children because it has allowed them the ability to explore many avenues of learning with support. Teachers and staff do a great job of making sure that families feel welcome and informed. When you walk into the school the atmosphere of one of respect, love, and teamwork. I love the way they have had literacy and math nights, as well as interactive bullentin boards that allows for learning to take place around every corner. I also love the elective choices that range from extra help for struggling students to creative art's and problem solving strategy choices.
